its thin particle board, which, for the price point, its totally fine. it's easy to put together arrived fast. I reccommend putting it together on a carpet or blanket as the finish scratches/scuffs super easy. Looks more black than a dark wood , not a big deal to me. Not very deep and shelves are not adjustable which description probably says, and again not a big deal to me but for some it might be:)

I needed a small bookcase that didn't have to be very sturdy as I wasn't keeping heavy items on it. This one was perfect for me. It holds some books, both hard cover and paperback, some boxes with pictures and some paperwork. Everything is easily organized and easy to find. Didn't take long to put together either.

Really poor quality and much thinner material than expected. Had to assemble to see final product quality otherwise would not have kept them.

Non-Adjustable Shelves

I can barely use these bookcases. The shelves are standard size and my books are non-standard size. I really needed adjustable shelving. All of that work to put them together to find that most books don't fit. And, the bookcases are lightweight.

A great choice for needed book space. I have purchased more than half a dozen of these in the espresso finish. They are easy to assembly, work well and look good. I like the fact that they have a matching back rather than a see through option. It makes the shelving more complete and adds to the stability. I highly recommend this low cost yet decent quality choice for your book shelving needs.

Actual width is longer than listed

The dimensions listed are wrong. The actual shelves are one inch wider, ~23.5 inches. I bought 3 as shelving in a specifically sized space and they don’t fit properly as a result of the wrong measurement listed. The shelves are okay for what they’re priced at. One shelf out of three came with a big chip in the laminate of the backboard, so quality control isn’t great.

Walnut Shelves

I had been looking for awhile to find walnut shelves to match my TV console and these inexpensive shelves did the trick! They are MDF with walnut veneer but which is why they are so economical. Easy to assemble. Now I can display my books and artwork.

Satisfactory for the purpose, and inexpensive. The 20 wood screws supplied are too narrow to hold properly. You (the purchaser) might replace them with slightly wider ones and ask Home Depot to rebate $3 in consideration of this. Also the screws do not countersink properly. I recommend that you use a countersink tool if screw heads sticking slightly out of the surface of the bookcase sides bothers you.

Book shelf for shoes in mud room!

I purchased this book shelf for extra storage for shoes, boots, lunch boxes etc for my mud room. I put it next to the hall tree I that I also purchased from Overstock. I think they go together very nicely and I’m also thinking of getting a basket to put on one of the shelves for hats and gloves. My man put it together and he said it was fairly easy except for the backing. That took a while because there were a lot of tiny little nails to get it to stay in place. It’s not the sturdiest piece of furniture but for the price and what I am using it for, it will serve its purpose nicely.

Came surprisingly well packed. Very easy to follow instructions. Let's face it, it's simply a very basic 4 shelf bookcase. Very thin coloring layer so be careful. I scrapped off some of the veneer when removing a parts circle with letter that was stuck on the panel. Very minor and my fault. Just glad that it happened on the first panel during assembly so I made it a point to be extra careful from that point on. I got both the 4-shelf and 3-shelf at the same time. I will have to get me another 4-shelf bookcase. Again, my bad. I underestimated how many old VHS, DVD'S, and CD'S I have. For the money they are well worth it.
