Damper but you can't use it?
I was careful to purchase a door with a damper so that we could close the glass doors with a fire in progress. The webpage listing for this product clearly states in at least three separate locations that there is a damper. BUT, after installing the door, where was the damper? We then see in the instructions that you're not supposed to close the glass doors if there is a fire. Then what would be the point of having a damper? And there were two extra parts, thrown in and not wrapped up with the rest, for which the installation instructions had no information. We finally figured out these were damper parts. But a third part (a pine or screw) must be missing. One of the tiny damper parts popped out of the box when it was first opened, so maybe a pin fell out of the box. Bottom line is we want to be able to close the glass doors with a fire going (otherwise we get too much smoke in the house). I need clarification: Can we just the doors or not? And what part am I missing for the damper?
Buy a different model
I liked the flat black finish and the shape of the doors. I do not like how the design is completely open on the bottom and the insulation slides right out! Our doors are not insulated now.
Purchased these fireplace doors to replace an outdated brass cover. Not too difficult to install. It instantly upgraded the look of the fireplace. The doors are also easy to open. Very happy with this purchase!
It looks beautiful in my living room. The previous owners had a cheap metal screen that went around the fire place. It looks 100% better. I also really enjoyed the fact that is was on sale!
A simple, modern design that looks great in black
Sleek modern design without design leftovers from the past. We looked high and low for a simple, black fireplace cover that wouldn't break the bank OR the style senses, and this one fit the bill perfectly. Also like the doors swinging open fully rather than the typical accordion folding doors. The insulation supplied in the kit was a bit on the light side, but easily remedied using a piece from the old cover.
Pleasantly Surprised by the Quality for the Price!
Replaced a 1990's Bright Brass Fireplace Door. We went to two stores that specialize in Fireplace Doors. Both quoted $1,800 - $2,000 for a custom door. Couldn't justify the price. Ordered the Ascot AT-1002 Large Door. It just fit the width of our fireplace.
This door exploded when we had a fire lit
I would never recommend this door. We had it a year and a half and it shattered while we had a fire going. No one touched it, the glass wasn’t cracked, and it just popped and glass went flying into our living room. Very dangerous.
Decent looking glass bifold fireplace screem.
The glass fireplace screen itself is fine and easy to install and seems to be a solid design and is attractive. The fiberglass insulation that came with it was a real problem. It was in 2 large strips that were supposed to be cut into 3 lengthwise and simply pull apart to install. Not so. The fiberglass just ripped apart clearly not having been cut. I had to purchase fiberglass and cut the strips myself.
Great fireplace doors
I wanted to update my family room brass fireplace glass doors without spending a small fortune for custom made doors. Pleasant Hearth offered several options and the Ascot was “clean” looking yet functional. I also wanted bi-fold doors that wouldn’t necessitate moving decorative items from the hearth. Excellent measurement guide to determine the right size doors to order as well as included installation instructions. Very pleased with my purchase and great value for the money!
Exactly as advertised. Definitely need two sets of hands. Did have a little trouble with attaching to the lintel bar because my fireplace happened to have two lintel bars, and one was in the way of the other. However, I managed to get it attached. May have to revisit the attachment and use the alternate method. But for now, it seems to be working fine.
better than expected!
Very heavy and rich looking. Our 29-year old son was able to install it in about and hour and a half. He did need a drill. The grill is lightly magnetic, so it gently sticks shut, which serves exactly the intended purpose at our house: to keep the grandbaby's fingers out of the fire. When there are no grandkids around, we open both the glass shutter doors and the grill for maximum heat. Clear glass doors which fold easily. We recommend without reservation.
[Rewarded Review] Easy to install great to look at
I purchased the largest size doors and am very satisfied. I installed the doors without the riser bar and the viewing space of the fireplace doors perfectly matches my firebox. I was a bit nervous because my firebox opening was an the limit in width but, the doors are built to easily accommodate a range of sizes including and extra 1/4” beyond the sizing recommendation. I love how simple it is to remove the wire doors if need be and I also love how the doors open all the way and fold out of view. The construction of the doors are engineered well and feels sturdy against my brick fireplace. Even the shipping box was perfectly arranged and protected. The customer service representative I spoke to on the phone was also very helpful in helping me pick the right size.
Fireplace doors
The doors (made in China) were packaged very securely and instructions were reasonably understandable and illustrated. Manufacturing quality appeared to be very good. Unfortunately, after removing the many bands and cardboard protectors, I discovered the doors were not made for my fireplace which is prefabricated. So, be sure before ordering to verify the type of fireplace you have and that you are selecting doors that will fit and function correctly.

Bought this to install over a fireplace that had never had a screen or doors before. Because it was part of a general fireplace 'renovation' our contractor installed it for us. Though the opening was a different configuration than the typical fireplace opening, he had to do some modifications which ended up not using any of the installation parts that came with the screen, but at the end of the day, the Ascot doors are installed and look beautiful. They're well-made and feel like they will hold up well. We use our fireplace with a gas fire, so removed the spark screens (gas fires typically don't spark, and there are no pieces of burning logs to roll out) and they were easily removed. Very happy with this product, and would readily purchase more products from Pleasant Hearth.
Pleasant Hearth Ascot Large Bifold Fireplace Doors
Very pleased with this purchase. We replaced an old brass set for these, and so happy with the new look. Love the clean lines and matte black color, cabinet door type mesh screen and the way the bifold doors flatten out and stay in place with a magnet. My husband and son installed it in about an hour. It would have been quicker but some tweaking had to be done to attach to the firebox. This was an inexpensive update that turned out great. Highly recommend!
[Rewarded Review] Outstanding Product
Purchased these doors to update our existing masonry fireplace. I had the doors delivered to the nearest Lowe's store. Arrived in about four days. Picked up at Lowe's. Be careful. The packaging is well-done, but the carton size is three feet by four feet and is heavy. The size of the carton makes it unwieldy.

Only company I found offering ready made fireplace glass doors. I could have used any of the three sizes offered and chose the large. My opening is 36 3/8 W x 28 3/8 H. The small or the medium would have only provided an overlap of about a 1/2 inch on each side of my brick face. I'd rather have at least 2 inches. The smaller sizes would also have 6 inches less viewing width of my fireplace opening. I wasn't able to use the pressure brackets at the bottom of the unit because the holes on the bracket plate were overlapped on the brick face. That's ok, It ain't going to move at the bottom. Great value for the price. Kudos to GHP Group for how they package their glass doors to protect them from damage. I should have replaced that old polished brass unit long ago. This looks so much better !

Good value. Very pleasing to look at and quality is decent. The glass doors fold completely back on the sides nicely. The mesh doors only open a little past 90 degrees. Both the glass and mesh doors have magnets that work well to secure the doors to the frame when shut. I had difficulty securing the frame to our mantel which was slightly rounded. When closed, mesh doors limit the airflow into the fireplace which can be a problem keeping the fire burning hot enough and all the smoke going up the chimney. When closed, the mesh doors noticeably limit the heat radiated into the room. For these two issues, we typically leave the mesh doors at least slightly open. Overall satisfied with this purchase and this is a huge improvement to the fireplace screen it replaced.
[Rewarded Review] Nice... but....
This product shipped in a timely manner and was ready when it said. The challenges were 2 fold-- the directions for measuring were a little odd. We've done multiple projects with no measuring issues- but following the instructions- it ended up so large it covered the entire area of the fireplace- not just the old door area. Additionally, it did not indicate that the screens pulled out (they did not slide) and this did not work in the area we have. Unfortunately for us- it was a beautiful product- but did not work at all in our space for size or functionality.
Excellent Fireplace Doors
I can’t say enough good things about these doors. We have had them for a few months now and they look very nice - we get compliments frequently. We chose this particular door set as the doors fold completely flat to the sides and it is so worth it, we LOVE this door set - we have a raised hearth and this means that there is no loss of seating space for warming up (also, who really likes having doors stick out?).
