Makes me a better cook
I love my new Oklahoma Joe, charcoal grill. Vest improvement over previous goals, this one has an adjustable charcoal rack for better searing of meats, I can offset cook by placing the charcoals on one side, it has adjustable heat, and a high heat black coating. Used it several times and the cast-iron grates get nice and hot and make nice lines on the food. Grilling vegetables is also easy so I'm very happy with my new grill.
Wish the lid was more air tight around the the lip of the base…thinking of buying clamps and or
Best portable grill on the market!
It cooks really good it’s really a thought through design, with many convenience features, handles high heat, and distributes it very well. I’ve had this one for about a two years now in the sunlight everyday and use it at least three nights a week. I’ve had many of good cooks on it. It hasn’t lost any paint neither, nor has it had any discoloration. I would rate it a 9.8 out of 10. Definitely recommend and would purchase it again.
Love it
This little fella is really good. I’ve used it 3 times so far and cooked a whole snapper and 2 thick TomaHawk steaks to perfection with a temperature probe. I also bought some gasket sealer and put it around the door and chimney to prevent smoke escaping. Quite an expensive investment for me and it will never replace the LPG Weber but just love being able to cook something in a totally different way with great results. I doubt it will last as long as a Weber, mine is 15 years old. My biggest concern would be rust but with care and not keeping it out in the elements should see quite a few years of use.
Hinge welds causing improper fit on the lid
The Rambler is mostly a solid built grill. The lid hinges were not welded properly causing the lid to fit improperly. Should never have passed quality inspection. I’ve read this same complaint on other reviews. Fix the issue and I’d give the grille five stars. Great product but fix the hinge issues.
Highly recommended!
I'm in love! Easy to assemble straight from the box, just need a couple of screwdrivers. The handles are a very tight fit, but they do fit. A wrench may be needed to set the thermometer on time with it's bolt, as it's hard to finger-tighten due to space constraints. I'm seasoning it as I type, there are some open spots where smoke leaks from the sides of the top and bottom meeting spots; I want to use primarily as a smoker, so will add some seals to prevent this; for grilling it' shouldn't matter much. Heavy and sturdy, the coal pan is very helpful using different heights to set at, and very well made. Recommend a stand for it, as it does get very hot on the outside, and may possibly harm picnic tables and the like. Seems very easy to control temps using the intake and chimney vent, and keeps an even heat for long periods. I'm impressed!
NOT LIVING UP TO THE HYPE
Expected better quality. Unboxing: dropped the provided cast iron grate handle on the floor and it broke in half. The bottom ash tray had to be grinded in spots to slide in and out for cleaning. Initial use: The charcoal tray warped significantly. Will not hang flat - off by at about 3/4". After maybe 15 uses: body paint has bubbled up and started to peel off from both the lid and bottom. The grill now looks like crap. Would not purchase again.
Design flaws
I bought this for my boyfriend’s birthday. The size and the functionality fit the expectations of my boyfriend. However when we tried to assemble the grill, both of us had a hard time removing the ash tray. We watched the Oklahoma Joe’s tutorial for this and the catch on the ash tray wouldn’t release. When we finished using the grill, it was impossible to remove the ash tray. I feel there was a manufacturing issue with the parts. In my opinion, the design of the ash tray was dumb. There was barely enough clearance for the ash tray to be lifted since there was metal on both sides sticking out. We had to wait for the grill and coal to cool before removing the ash tray. I was outside for over 30 minutes at 11 pm, watching the 10 second clip of the tutorial and couldn’t remove the ash tray. I was tempted to break the grill at this point!
Great smoker that could use some improvements
I dont have the space in the back to have a full sized grill/smoker and was using a Weber Smokey Joe with some makeshift enhancements to smoke with it.
Great smoker
I have a vertical smoker that I bought last year. Its fantastic. Smokers are not ready to go out of the box. You have to assemble and season and SEAL. People complaining about loss of smoke escaping are the ones who didn't follow the steps.
No quality control ..........
I also really wanted this grill to excell past the capability of the Weber Kettle, not even close.
Defective parts
Ordered a grill through tractor supply end of June. I was told that it was sent to Virginia by mistake so I ordered another one it was also sent to Virginia by mistake. Tractor supply ordered me the third one got it yesterday. Started putting it together today opened up the box one of the hinges off the top was laying in the bottom of the box. So it came with a defective hinge also the thermometer that you screw in the top rattles like a baby rattle looks like it’s defective also . Doesn’t Oklahoma Joe have any kind of quality control I don’t think so I will never order anything from Oklahoma Joe again!! Besides my two orders that went to Virginia apparently 68 others also went there. It amazes me that nobody in that company question why 70 grills went to one store!! Tractor supply was extremely nice and professional about handling this problem.I do not blame them about any of this and I will definitely order from them again but not Oklahoma Joe!!!!!
