Loved Them Except They Leaked
I purchased two of these where really nice except for the fact they both leaked. Outside of that they looked great and would burn all night when camping. But I returned them because both of them leaked. Having both leaking to me tells me it's a manufacturing issue. Had they not leaked I would have kept them.
good lantern
This lantern is made if thin metal, and the glass globe is thin, but that doesnt detract from it's function. It doesnt leak, provides good light, works well even in windy conditions, and at a price 1/5 of the heavier name brand models. I compared the light and wind resistance side by side with a 80-year-old high quality railroad lantern and there is no difference.
If I could give a less than 1 star review I would.
I do not like there’s no way to replace the wick. Never got to use it bc the wick wouldn’t stay up. Very cheaply made. It’s very pretty but useless.
Buy a Dietz
These lanterns need constant attention. They are your typical 'Chinese Crud' products. STICK WITH DIETZ...or you might loose the •••TZ
Good quality for the price
This lantern is perfect for emergency's and blackouts at the price, it functions as it should and has not leaked. However, I would spend more on a lantern if I planned to use it more often such as camping for several days or as a main light source out doors.
These leaked all the lamp oil.
I filled these to the required line. Both leaked all the way out. The seams are not welded properly. I will only be able to use as decorative items. Will not buy or recommend!!
flimsy but effective
given the affordable price point, no surprise that the construction is fairly lightweight. it works more than well enough
Good Lantern
I've used the Stansport 127 12" Hurricane Lantern Kerosene Oil Citronella for years now. Primarily because they're the most inexpensive and do the job. They are fragile but will last if taken care of. They used to come with more than one wick and a small funnel, I think, but no longer. It says to use fuel other than kerosene. I've used kerosene in mine with no problems. There is a fill line that should be observed or it will leak. There will be no leaks if you only fill to the fill line. I asked their customer service the amount the tank holds up to the fill line and they said "about 7 oz". They will start to rust if not stored properly. You can also find a variety of the 1/2 inch roll of wick on the Walmart website at a reasonable price. I hope this helps.
I have purchased a couple lanterns from Walmart, the instructions are inside the globe, but I cannot figure out how to take the globe out, need to remove so that I can use the lantern.
Extremely difficult to install wick
These Lamps are perfect for what I use them for. Lightweight and reasonably priced. Great for projects, such as converting to electric lamps.
Great working Lantern.
My lamp works great. I was hesitant to buy one, knowing that some reviews said theirs needed seal, but mine works great. it doesn't leak; So, I would say to those who are buying, just return it and get a new one if it leaks. For the price, if you get a good one, it's great and also, they are very cool to have and use.
Leaks like a sieve
Item leaks like crazy. How this is still sold after so many similar reviews is negligence. Ruined tabletop
Stansport Hurricane Lantern
Not worth the money. Poor quality craftmanship. Look elsewhere for a simular item.
Old fashion, multipurpose lantern
Awesome nostalgic lantern works great. Used it with citronella bug away oil great to keep insects away. Make light safely and looks very nostalgic when camping.
Just as described
Very affordable, works well so far, thought it was pretty cute 😊 we have a decent amount of power outages and I like dim lighting in the evening too. Came quickly would recommend!
Leaks
I want to love this, I really do. I enjoy using things that don't require batteries while camping, and using a lantern with citronella oil is great for bugs. However, this leaked - a LOT. As in, it had a puddle of oil under it, and I did not overfill. While it worked well while lit, it's a hazard to have a leaking lantern. I can't recommend it due to the risk of unintentional fire.
New lantern made a leaky mess!
New lantern leaked kerosene all over the table, making a huge mess. Had to throw it away. Never even had a chance to light it. Total waste of money.
Take precautions from others review before using.
I bought it because it was $10. I than read the review of it leaking from the bottom upon inspecting ot could be from the seems. I filled with water and left it over night. No leaks but empty it and looked inside. I can't see the seem but decided to seal the seems at the bottom with 2 coats silicone. Look up how to use one on the tube. Went outside and filled it with kerosene. It stunk and was flaming like crazy, the burning soot covered the glass. I let the glass cool down naturally and cleaned the soot off it and rewatched the video. I had the wick set too high. I think paraffin oil is what you're suppose to use for indoors. The kerosene was for outdoors. There's a lever that raises the glass for lighting that I failed to use. After following the video, setting the wick height barely above the burner, using the lever to lift the glass for lighting, it seemed to function normally. I need to buy a barbeque lighter or a long candle. The zippo lighter is bit too close for comfort for lighting the lantern. Let the wick soak up the fuel for an hour before you use it. It works it's cheap just seal the seems from possible leakage since it is located lower than the fill line or use it for decor only.
"Compared to hurricane lamps of 50 years ago, these feel delicate. The glass and metal are thinner than the old days...just like everything else...designed to fail/ware out prematurely so it can be purchased again. It seems more decorative than functional. I'm willing to pay more for better quality that will last like the old Timex watch slogan, ""Takes a licking
