Not any harder to put together than anything else. Honestly. Sure the hinges were a nightmare, but I have yet to put something with hinges together that was any different. It’s super cute! A drill for pre-drilling the hinge holes is very helpful. You will need an assortment of tool: mallet, screwdriver, and a drill if you have one. A dude could probably muscle it easily without a drill, but I struggled without one (a dude or a drill). But the rest is completely standard fare. I’d order again, for sure.
looks more expensive than it was.
challenging to build , but looks great in my home. It is a nice imitation of some very expensive furniture. I was able to remove the numbers that people complained about with Clorox wipes. Pretty easy - just needed some elbow grease. The only reason that I did not give it five stars is because it has a horrible chemical odor that hasn't gone away after a few weeks.
WOW! A Beautiful Side Table
I purchased this Avesta side table for an area upstairs. It was the perfect color, style and dimensions that I needed. The entire table had to be assembled. All the parts were in the box, including instructions. In fact, the instructions made sense and I had extra parts left over. The table was easy to put together. Each section on the instructions sheet has a scan bar. When you scan the bar it illustrates how to assemble the part. The doors had to be adjusted several times for the best fit and closure. After it was assembled it looked really nice and it’s sturdy. I am very pleased with the final product.
I’m very disappointed in this piece of furniture for several reasons. The first issue is the smell. I had to set all the pieces outside for 2 days to air them out. It smelled like noxious chemicals and even the neighbors could smell the pieces outside on my deck. The second issue is that the brown is not as dark as the picture. The third issue is that this is very difficult to assemble. The instructions are not clear and the pieces are mismarked. The fourth issue is that the holes were not pre drilled. This causes the paint to crack when installing the handles.
Delightful Aesthetically Looking Sideboard
Thank you *** made a huge difference in lighting and aesthetically in my entryway to kitchen. Perfect tea station once I complete setting it up. Attached a pic in unfinished tea station. *** so I’ll add more on my review once I can get it assembled. The brown option is darker and does not look like picture. Stay tuned...
I don’t think it’s worth that price, I would buy it for *** or less though. It is made of weaker particle board, not MDF. The surfaces are like glued on paper, so I don’t expect them to last long. It was moderately annoying to assemble, with easy instructions, but missing pre-drilled holes as well as having the piece labels printed on them in ink on parts of the piece that face outward (as opposed to being hidden or being a sticker). I would not recommend this at full price, but if you score it at *** or less it could be worth it.
All the bad reviews for this are right on the money! I knew I had a 50/50 shot when buying these piece. I only pulled four pieces out of the box but I was horrified by what I saw. The doors were badly damaged. Scratched, chipped, broken. The colorful decal print was peeling off. The horrible toxic smell! The top and bottom pieces as well as both side boards were different measurements, not identical measurements as they should be. All the pieces of wood are the cheapest WDF I've ever seen. So light weight. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole piece of furniture would fall over. The instructions are indeed a joke. Just a lot of generic kindergarten level pictures with very few written instructions. There was also missing pieces not even listed on the instructions. Just a lot of guessing. The box was badly damaged when it arrived. When I called Overstock to arrange a return they blamed it all on UPS. However, all the damaged was indeed caused by Manhattan Comfort and the fact that they made an inferior product. On last thing, I ordered the white/gray but it is actually white with dark walnut legs not gray. PS- A sarcastic Thank You to Overstock for making sure the UPS store came to pick this up to return it like they were supposed to! Two weeks went by and UPS never picked it up. When I reported this to Overstock they didn't care! They now said they didn't even want it back. I had to drag a 50 pound broken box covered in duck tape out to the curb of my house by myself and pray the local garbage men would take it. Almost killed myself!
This is a cute modern cabinet just what I was looking for for my small space . I have put lots of ikea furniture together myself but this is ridiculous. There are many areas where you have to create your own holes as the instructions are worthless . The cabinet doors are really the whole reason I bought this piece and it is a sticker and peeling from the bottom . Pretty frustrating when you have to fix something that is new . Also the doors don’t go on the hinges right , I pretty much have quit trying for now . I needed something to fit in a small space and thought this would be cute and it may be if it ever goes together right . Nevertheless not worth the money I spent on it .
Creative Building for Creative Design
This is a beautiful piece for such an inexpensive price. The cabinet is an accent piece in the room with some functionality to store files and other light items. Maximum weight is noted in the instructions booklet. The ratings with fewer stars are correct that the doors do not align perfectly, and the piece numbers are printed visibly on the viewing side. For the price, I could fix easily those cosmetic issues. The building instructions were fairly easy despite what some reviews wrote, and I am neither a carpenter nor an engineer. Took me about 1.5 hours to construct, and another 45 minutes to figure out and reconstruct the design so that the doors close properly. *SUGGESTION for building: skip nailing the backing while the piece is laying on its front side. Nail the backing last while the piece is upright. Align the main piece so that the doors stay in place. This will allow the doors to open/close properly.
You need an Engineering degree
Like the title says, you'll need it to make up the mistakes made on the instructions. Mislabeled screws, illustrations incorrectly drawn. You have to nail boards on the back without pilot holes or any guides to keep the boards from shifting. One nail broke thru the white surface so now there's a hole inside the unit. And you could easily miss the alignment screwing down the legs, I made sure I did it very carefully so the legs were attached with accuracy. I think the price should be knocked down to *** because it feels like it came out of *** . Also the alignment on the doors is very iffy. You have to have a lot of patience just to get them down right. But even if you do, they'll still be misaligned.
Cute, but not sturdy and idiotic manufacturing
I thought this was pretty easy to assemble if you have assembled furniture before. My order came with extras of each screw/hardware and a clear count of how many were needed to complete the project which was nice. You absolutely need a drill to assemble.
Must have good deductive skills
When all is said and done, this piece is super cute and fits well with the retro/mid-century theme. As for putting it together, it lacks much to be desired. The instructions are only illustrations. There are no written instructions. After much trial and error, I finally got the piece together. The numbers ARE written on the panel pieces, just very lightly.
Cosmetically nice/DISASTER to Put together
Instructions are a "joke", pictures nothing written, some instructions not even there, You absolutely need a drill gun, some holes not even pre-drilled. Ridiculous the incredible lack of care for directions and making it "friendly" to construct. Overstock should INSIST the manufactures supply WRITTEN along with pictures/step by step instructions and that the items are READY to be construction..one should not have to "guess" where holes go. Cosmetically the colors are fab. Rating a fair due to lack of adequate instructions/preparing item to be put together. "NOTE" I am very handy and this took over 3 hours to put together.
