Love this salt and pepper mill set. It’s just such a nice and simple design and lets you adjust the size of the grind. The material is a rubbery-type which can attract grease from fingers so be sure to wipe them down with a slightly damp cloth to keep them looking good.
I couldn't be happier. I have used a variety of well reviewed grinder mills over many years and have always been left wanting. I nearly always use mixed peppercorns, a proportion of which are quite large and until now the mill has never managed to crunch the larger corns which tended to have been discarded when a refill was needed. I also like a course grind. This rather unusual design is on top of the job. Lovely to look at and handle, easy to fill and I can feel a satisfying crunch as I use it, producing flakes of pepper on my food, which I love. I never thought the day would come when I would spend £75 on grinder mills, But I am delighted that that day has arrived.
Our old, wooden salt and pepper grinders were on their last legs. The salt mill was rusty inside and ground out brown crystals! The pepper mill, although very similar in size to these, would hold a very small quantity of peppercorns, we were frequently refilling it.So I did my research and the Bottle Grinder came out tops in the Which? tests. One of the most expensive but with a capacity way ahead of the nearest competition. So they won't need frequent refilling. They look really smart and hold a lot of peppercorns or salt.Being effectively upside-down relative to most grinders gives them the advantage that the salt mostly falls out of the grinder when set down, thereby mitigating corrosion. But perhaps best of all they are fun, give them to someone who has never seen them before and watch how long it takes them to work out how to use them 😀 . Usually quick, but amusing to see their attempts. Less
Becomes sticky after awhile
It grinds well but the surface becomes sticky after a while. It's not oil residue. What's the best way to clean it? Dishwashing detergent doesn't work I tried. Thanks
Really lovely salt and paper grinders - look good and feel nice but they are huge! They are twice the size they need to be. They are also difficult to fill because of the design and need. alo tof salt and pepper to fill. For the cost I would have returned them but unfrontuantely due to the cost of sending items back to Nordic Nest I will hold onto them . I only wish they had been smaller. Check the sizing before purchasing.
These are a Christmas present, so haven’t used them! Did look inside the box though - they are beautiful and look nothing like traditional salt and pepper grinders! The colour is subtle and the streamline look makes them very minimalistic. My daughter will love them! Great, fast delivery as usual.
This is the best grinder I have ever used. Lots of black pepper for a few twists of the mill. It is also the most expensive grinder I have ever used. Fortunately it is beautiful so I stand the black version on the workbench near the hob so I can admire it as an artwork.I don’t want to use the white one for salt so suggestions for another spice to grind will be welcome. Are pink peppercorns passé?
. I am an elderly man with a life long passion for cooking ( and eating!). These are by far the best salt and pepper grinders I have ever bought. They are easy to fill and to use and work well every time I have used them. The setting for adjusting 'grades' of milling are very good too. They also look good. Having said that they are also probably the most expensive grinders I have ever bought, but I think I have learned that if you want something this good you are going to have to pay for it.
No Mess & Smooth Touch
These are the best salt and pepper grinders I’ve ever used. They’re easy to fill, and because the opening is at the top, once they go back onto the shelf they don’t leave any mess. I also like that the beech lids give you several options for how fine or coarse you want your seasonings ground. They are velvety smooth to the touch, so lovely to handle, and the colours are subtle and could sit well in either a black or brown toned kitchen or dining room. Super happy with them 😊.
Excellent quality and beautiful to look at.
I love this set immensely. Here are the pros, and my one conPROS: Gorgeous and high quality. Elevates a practical item into something beautiful. Great grind on both salt/pepper. Pretty easy to fill.CON: The finish on these is beautiful but also a matte. Fingerprints/oil show up easily and so they can look marked quickly, which I find goes away with soap/water without a problem This is a little annoying, which is my 4 stars rather than 5.
Stylish if a little oversize.I have despaired of finding reliable grinders which will deliver a fine grind and last a reasonable time, and hoped these would. The fine setting is not bad but seems to need resetting with every use, which I hadn't anticipated. It delivers a generous amount too, so find we have to issue a warning!Don't use with greasy fingers!
We bought the salt & pepper grinders after reading many reviews of a wide range of grinders. For us, function trumps form… but only form can be assessed online - and the shape and range of colours appealed to us. We didn’t take notice of the dimensions on the supplier’s website, and we were a bit surprised how large they are - but we’ve got used to that, and the grinders have a nice chunky feel. Our previous grinders had a fixing nut to keep the top and bottom together. The Bottle Grinders’ top and bottom halves just push together… no screw, nut or other fixing. It’s a good fit and feels secure, but we wonder if the fit might loosen with daily use, to the point where they will, in effect, be unusable. But right now… we love them, their feel and ease of use and filling are great. They look good too, and have been greatly admired. We’d buy again - and maybe will give a set to friends for a Christmas or birthday gift. Less
These are truly great grinders. I've been looking for a really effective pepper mill for ages and have been through many lousy ones. This set were best buys recommended by Which - and they really are the best. Both pepper and salt grinders have excellent adjustment on the coarseness of the grind. I'm not a great fan of ground rock salt which usually dumps great crystals into the food, but the salt grinder has the ability to adjust the coarseness and can produce salt as fine as normal table salt.We are really happy with this set and recommend it most highly.
Really does what it is supposed to do. Adjustment of the grind is easy and if used properly you can get just the amount of salt or pepper that you'd want.Holds a generous amount of salt / pepper so you won't be filling up very often. The grinder is on the top so you don't have a constant mess on your table or in your cupboard.A bit expensive for what they are. Let's be honest they are plastic with a built in grinder - albeit soft feel plastic but price range should be £40 to £45.All in all, I am very pleased with this set of grinders. Let us see how long they last.
We chose the Bottle Grinder because Which indicated that they were a good buy. There was a long delay in the delivery of the goods, a supply issue. On receipt we have washed them in preparation for the pepper and salt. The pepper works fine, however the salt seems to leak immediately you turn it upside down. It may be the salt we have chosen to use, so it might be helpful if there was a recommendation. We had chosen rock salt.We like the design and feel of the grinders. We will see how the family view the grinders over the holidays.
These grinders look lovely, they are like pieces of jewellery for my kitchen. Unfortunately, they are a case of form over function; this is already clear from the fact that the instructions are so small print, you need a microscope to read them. The quality of the workmanship is rather disappointing. On the outside, the brass finish is uneven, so the top and bottom parts look like they do not quite match. The finish also is too sensitive, fingerprints show immediately and completely ruin the looks, so I would have to polish these grinders every single time I use them. On the inside, the containers are cheap plastic; for this price I expected ceramic or glass. I did buy these mostly for decoration purposes, so I am keeping them, but I will choose another brand for a hardwearing and better made spice mill. Less
Brilliant products! They hold lots of salt crystals, peppercorns or whole spices; really easy to fill without spillage; equally easy to set grind from coarse to fine. Best of all: unlike conventional grinders, you don't spill anything when you put them down because the opening is at the top! Now why didn't anyone think of that before? Also, after I ordered online I was informed they would not be in stock for several weeks. I called the customer helpline and asked if I could change from the wood lid ones I'd ordered to these steel lid ones which were in stock and said I'd be happy to pay the extra price. The kind lady was happy to change my order at no extra cost and they were delivered just a few days later!
Good size and capacity.Good shape. Very stable when not in use. Yet takes up little room on a counter, table or shelf.Easy to use. Good to grip, despite initial appearances.Easy adjustment of grind coarseness.Easy to fill.Easy to wipe clean.Stylish, attractive appearance and surface finish.Everything to like. Nothing to dislike.
Originally purchased this product about six years ago from a British retailer - HUS & HEM - who no longer stocked them. The grinders were brilliant but because of constant use the lighter coloured one now looked a bit tired. Searched for a very long time without success until I saw them on your website, so bought them immediately. So easy to use and fill, sleek appearance and mechanism works exceptionally well. An added, but for me an important bonus was (as with my original grinders) the colours match exactly other kitchenware from Alessi, Joseph Joseph etc. in my kitchen. I highly recommend these grinders for their sleek design and practicality.
Schmick, practical and 'grate' gift
Bought this for a mates engagement after they told me they would love some good quality salt and pepper grinders. They were blown away by the quality, feel and design! The grinders have been reported to work very well.Out of curiosity as I had done a fair bit of research prior to purchasing this particular set, I 'cracked' the box open for a peek when it arrived! They have a lovely matte finish which felt really soft and grippy. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were different levels of milling available as this was a feature I was looking for but not expecting from the product.Shipping was also swift and uneventful.Only improvements would be to have an instruction manual. I had no idea how to open the grinders and ended up looking it up at 1am since once I thought of it, I needed to know! Second, there is no way of knowing which level of ground it is set to..as far as I could tell with the vessel empty.Otherwise fantastic! Thank you! Less
