Nice bookcase.

This is our second bookcase of the same model. We got our first one about 5 years ago and it's still in perfect shape. This one we just got has a chip in the top at the back about the size of half a dime and some bad spots in the coloring on base part E but I'm not worried about it. If I was I know that I could contact Sauder and they'd send me new parts. We have other Sauder products and they are amazing at backing their products. A little stain and something on the top and it'll be good.

Great piece for my office

I bought the 2 shelf unit but now I wish I had gotten the 3 shelf unit. Assembly was a breeze, it took maybe 20 minutes after I unboxed everything to make sure it wasn't damaged. Once assembled I noticed everything fit together really well. You would never know I didn't buy it at a furniture store.

Great value for the price

Nice solid bookcase at a great price! We bought two of these. The first one took us about 45min. to put together but after having done that, the second one only took 15min. to do. Very pleased with our purchase!

Decent

Well packed, no delivery issues. Easy to assemble with clear instructions. It's cheap MDF which I hate but they did a decent job of making something out of that material. The finish seems decently durable but I didn't try to test it. It fit on top of and matched our current shelves so that met our criteria. Price was high IMO even though it was cheaper on amz than this site.

Great Product

We have purchased three of these bookcases. One is being used as a TV cabinet. These bookcases are great for the price. The bookcase adds a nice clean line that holds your things. We purchased them one after the other after moving into a new home.

Not as good as other

I bought the same book case 6 years ago. I bought one again last week. No comparison. This one is made cheaper. The back was compliantly cover on the first one. This one is a bit smaller and not as sturdy. I love Sauder furniture and have purchased many pieces. I think they are trying to cut back and it shows in this piece.

Perfect for a small professional space

I needed a small bookcase in my home office that could hold large and medium books. It didn't need to be too sturdy but it needed to hold at least 30lbs per shelf. It also had to look professional since it would be in any camera shots during video calls. This bookcase looked good online and even better in person. Very easy to set up and the moldings are a perfect addition to spruce up the case.

Very easy to put together, beautiful product

This was so easy to put together! Unlike some other put-together furniture you can buy on the internet, Sauder has amazing instructions that are easy to follow and not a million little parts. The bookshelf's coloring is beautiful and it was packaged so well there are no dents or dings! And what a great price for a beautiful piece!

Instruction on the other hand, don't seem to get better. STEP 3. 1-1/8 "" screws are too long. 14P, cheap plugs do not stay in place, they are too loose. They say do not over tighten. That is not scientific. Two of my screws started poking out the top. Not acceptable. There is NO need for screws this long to hold a top in place. STEP 5. All assembled by customer furniture usually has this weakness, the back ""cardboard"" backer and trying to nail small brads to hold it in place. I have seen better methods. And again, plastic 13P, none really go in easy nor stay flush and look terrible, luckily they are not out in the open. Step 6. Piece H. It is a bookcase, this piece should be flush with the shelf so larger books fit and not raised. And if you look from inside, you see unfinished wood. No need for that. Sloppy design in this case. Yet, good quality, easy to assemble. Screws poking through the top thou is unacceptable.

The small two shelf book base caped off my sander desk and six foot book case with bottom cabinet for my home office make over. I am quite surprised at the quality of the engineering that has gone into the products. The cam and dowel combination is very sturdy and creative and I am sure will last for years. There is nothing cheap about the furniture, it looks like furniture that costs 2x what I paid for it. I am also very please that the products are made in the USA!!!. Keep up the great work! I highly recommend Sander furniture!

Sauder Bookcase

Easy to assemble, provided instructions were clear and easy to follow. One thing to note is the plastic covers for the hidden cams are difficult to push in by hand. Once there centered on the cam a light tap with the hammer sets them nicely. You need to be careful when tightening the screws in MDF products since it strips out easily. A snug tighten is all that is needed. These match the Heritage Hill Cherry line pretty well, I have some things from that line that are many years old and not made anymore so I was happy that they match so well.

Good for what it is

I don't understand some of the other reviews. No screws went through any part. Because of that review I was careful, but even then, no issues with that. I also don't see how this will fall apart while moving unless you treat this like it's one solid wood piece, which it's not. It's held together by less than real screws (dowel&turning thing). Move it carefully and not often. it's very pretty when put together. took me about an hour on my own to put it together.the instructions are great.

Sturdy, affordable bookshelf!

I am a 58 yo grandmother. This is the easiest piece of furniture I have ever put together! I have put together desks, cabinets, repaired things etc. Easy to follow directions and it was packed well and not damaged. This is a heavy bookshelf. Sturdy, looks great and I know it will last for many years. Even though it is prefab/ laminate, if you take care of it, it will last a long time. Well worth the money I spent on it. I purchased 2 for my sewing room to stand bolts of fabric up vertically without the middle shelf. I am going to buy 2 more to stack on top of the bottom 2. I highly recommend this product. The box was wrapped in plastic so it wouldn't get wet on the rainy day it was delivered. Thank you FedEx and WalMart! I will upload pics after I get them set up with fabric bolts in it. Happy customer!

Beautiful bookshelves, great quality

These bookcases are beautiful and I am very happy with my purchase. Ordering furniture online is always subject to damage in the shipping process, but the packaging in this case is outstanding. The outer box for each was covered in a very strong plastic and all four corners had extremely durable corner protectors. Even with a corner damaged on one of the boxes, there was NO damage to the product.

Nice-looking, good quality, but...

The bookcase is nice. It had easy to follow instructions if you actually read them. lol The particle board is sturdy and the veneer looks nice. I was hoping it would be more cherry than brown, but I still like the overall quality. As one other reviewer mentioned, one of the boards looked like it had been crushed, as there was a long crack in the veneer. BUT I didn't care because it is the underside of the top shelf. The carton arrived in goid condition so it wasn't done in shipping. It's sad that quality control didn't replace it. But we still used it and a brown sharpie would cover it if it really bothers me.

POSITIVE: I didn't need a magnifying glass to read the assembly instructions. Thank you, Sauder! And lots of helpful tips in there. Even a little humor - nice touch. POSITIVE: No missing or damaged pieces delivered, hooray! I was able to assemble it myself and I have no special skills. NEGATIVE: The backboard is cardboard, yuck. And after assembling, some of the unfinished edges show. POSITIVE that could have been a NEGATIVE: Stickers labeling pieces placed on outfacing surfaces - this can be helpful when assembling, but I just hate trying to peel those things off. Guess what - they peeled off easily, no problem :) Extra props for that!

Perfect bookcase!

This bookshelf was the trifecta of perfection for what I was looking for. The color (estate black) was what I needed for the room, I wanted something more interesting than a straight boxy bookcase and this one has moldings, and the height couldn't have been more spot on to fit underneath the window sill. It came packaged very well with reinforced corners on the box all around to prevent damage during shipping. No damage to the pieces and everything fit together. Instructions were easy to follow as well. My only dismay is that I cannot find this piece in estate black anymore. I'm not sure if its a covid thing but I'm hoping they didn't discontine it! I need 2 more of these to finish the wall I needed them for. All in all, an excellent product and I couldn't be more satisfied.

Good, Not Great

Twenty (maybe 30?) years ago I bought this same item from Sauder. One of my secrets of assembly is to add wood glue to all the unfinished surfaces which adds a long-term rigidity--the item doesn't start loosening over time. Like every manufacturer, Sauder has had to make choices and 20 years is a long time to remain competitive with the same item. While they opted for a good price point (under $100), the result has been a decline in finish and quality from what it was in the past. The particleboard crumbled a little easier and the finish is more susceptible to chips. READ ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY AS YOU GO. I put one item on in reverse and since I use glue, it was not easy to undo my error. All told, I guess I could say I got what I paid for, though in the back of my mind I don't think I'm going to get 20 years out of this one. On the other hand, at my age I may not get 20 more years myself...,

Shelf had break under the glued woodgrain sheet.

Ordered the 2-Shelf bookcase Model 414238. The shipping container was perfect - no damage. Opened box and laid out parts - all there. Assembled per instruction booklet with no problems. Last step is to install adjustable shelf. Noticed about 1 inch x 1 inch damaged edge at front top. The particle board had broken under the sheeting but not enough to tear the grain sheeting but could see the edges of the break outlined in the sheeting. . Not happy. Decided to use it as is because of hassle of contacting businesses and usually getting a runaround. I will not buy other products from Sauder. Their quality control and/or final inspection is inadequate.
