(Rewarded Review) Solid safe

I upgraded to this safe since my previous one was feeling cramped. This safe feels very durable, and can hold a lot of your important documents and valuables. It's rated to be fireproof and waterproof. I haven't that part, but it's a step up from a other cases since other cases may not even say that! I feel I can trust this safe to last a lifetime!

All in all, this safe is good value for the money. As others have commented, the packaging for this safe is flimsy, and mine arrived with a minor dent as a result. I chose to live with it. The safe is very sturdy and seems secure, although the plastic dial is a bit cheap and doesn’t convey the sense of security you expect from a safe. Also, the listed interior dimensions are a little off. There is a built-in storage pocket in the door that intrudes slightly into the interior space and reduces the depth by a few inches. Nonetheless it easily accommodates the files and paperwork I want to store in it.

Basic item is ok if u know what ur getting etc which is not fully explained on the box or In Materials on the outside of box. Instructions book that comes with it are for several diff models and is misleading and confusing as to.what it has and don’t have and ur really not sure what u have until u open box at home etc and start to see it and figure out what’s there’s and not with all other models in same book etc. So set ups different and product don’t have things u expected and when u See if it’s deceiving. As to features u see on if that it really don’t have or don’t work on this model . Very confusing and poorly described on box and advertisement and store clerks don’t know really what u get with it etc. Therefore it’s overpriced really but if u wanted a basic safe with out things u we’re thinking we’re in and on it it’s a decent lower level

Newer and Better

This was a replacement for a 20 year old Sentry Safe. We couldn’t open it when we came home from vacation to add our passports. We originally purchased it because we wanted our adult children to be able to access important documents without going to a bank deposit box. The Sentry customer service spent about 45 minutes trying to help us troubleshoot but we all agreed it was time to get a new one. The new one is about the same outside dimensions but seems to hold more because it has a removable adjustable shelf. The door is thicker and seems stronger. So far, we are satisfied with the quality and customer service!

Sturdy and secure

This seems like a sturdy and secure safe. I like that it has the combination lock and a key override. To me a combination lock is better than a digital one as you never have to worry about the battery for the digital entry to die. The combination code is pre set at the factory. If you register the safe online, and forget your combination, you can get it that way. I like that there is a shelf in the safe and that the shelf is adjustable. There are 4 levels you can place the shelf to fit your needs. Great product.

It's heavy, but should be bolted to the floor for true security. This safe is designed so you can easily bolt it to the floor(wood or concrete). The safe has one shelf that can be placed on one of four levels or not used at all. On the interior of the door are 5 hooks to hang keys or other small items for safe keeping. This safe is perfect for protecting small documents and valuables. It protects from fire for 1 hour up to 1700°F and water resistance in up to 5 inches of water for up to 24 hours. The combination dial operates smoothly and I really like having the override key as a backup for opening the safe. A desiccant bag is included to keep in the safe to help absorb moisture. [Rewarded Review] Safe purchase

This is fine product that delivers everything which is on the tin. The safe is really really heavy and, I may be old school, but I still judge the level of protection offer by a safe by its weight. It is very easy to use, I found the keys in the safe itself. There is plenty of storage for all those essential documents including birth certificates, passports, marriage certificates, etc. It does look good and modern. I chose to get a safe mostly for protection in case of a fire more and I now feel reassure than my documents will be preserved in such an instance.

[Rewarded Review] Good Size and Well Made

I got this safe to keep our important documents safe, things like passports, birth certificates, wills, etc.. The safe has a 1-hour fire rating and it's waterproof. It weighs at least 60 pounds, so it's quite heavy. It comes with two long lag bolts to attach the safe to the floor or a wall if desired. Inside the safe is one shelf, and this shelf can be placed at four different levels to accommodate various size items or documents. On the inside of the door are key hooks. The safe looks very well made with three steel cylinders to keep the door locked. This safe has a mechanical lock (a dial) and the combination has been set factory set, this combination can NOT be changed. The safe also comes with two keys to bypass the combination. In the manual, it encourages you to register your safe. When you register it, you can easily retrieve a forgotten combination. The dial for the combination lock is plastic so after a fire you probably would need the keys to open it. I hope I never find out! Overall, a great addition to store documents and other important keepsakes.

Sentry box is not adequate to prevent damage

Opened the box up and saw the plastic dial was broken (see photo) and would not allow the dial to turn properly, nor know what number you stop on as part was missing. The box has no protection for the dial and handle from impacts, Sentry should really put styrofoam or bubble wrap around the dial to prevent damage to it. Or better yet, make it out of metal like the rest of the safe. 2 stars for the item description matching.

I'm not going to pretend like I know everything there is to know about safes, but this is an affordable option to keep some of your important possessions safer than not having them in anything. Others have talked about it being plastic, but it seems pretty solid to me. Unless your average thief has advanced knowledge of safe cracking or wants to waste an hour trying to open it with a crowbar, I think it's going to deter most criminals, especially if it is concealed and mounted properly. I know I wouldn't want to try to get in it if the lock fails...and I'd have time and tools at my disposal. The instructions say it will protect electronics for an hour when exposed to a fire, but I'm also assuming that's engulfed in flames the entire time before the fire is extinguished. Again, in probably isn't going to save everything in an inferno, but will give you a level of protection against minor fires. I'm using mine more for security than fire protection, as I will use it to store a firearm as well as some important documents. I wouldn't be devastated if I lost the entire contents in a house fire, I'd have bigger issues to deal with.

[Rewarded Review] Lock up your valuables in one safe, fire-proof place

We got this safe to keep our birth certificates, passports, ss cards, pictures, titles, mortgages, jewelry, etc. inside so they do not get lost and are protected from fire for one hour. It is a bit heavy. I got it down the basement steps by turning the box over on each step, then sliding it into place. There are two screws that you can drill through the dimples in the bottom. I do not like to do that because I do not want to damage my floor or carpet but for some inside a closet, this is a good way to anchor the safe. It is a bit heavy so it could be carried for short distances but most likely not by most. I have ours on a shelf to reach it at waist-level for convenience. The safe comes with a combination already set. There are two bypass keys meaning the key will open the safe without using the combination. I like this so long as the keys are not in view. The manual says the keys come outside the safe but with my model they were locked inside the safe along with the anchor screws. It has an adjustable top shelf with three positions. Regarding the fireproof part, the combination dial is plastic. I think you 100% would need a key to open the safe after a fire. We feel confident the safe is the way to go. We feel secure our paperwork and memories are safe inside this strong box. We trust the quality and the company standing behind its product.

[Rewarded Review] Good safe for documents and other valuables.

This is a good safe for keeping important papers or other items safe, it easily holds our legal documents (Home, Auto, Military etc.) The backup key is nice in case you need to get the items quickly without using the combination. This will be a store it and forget it safe for us as we will add papers and other documents as they come with time. It is a bit awkward to carry so you may need 2 people to carry it if you are not strong enough but again put it where you want it to live, it comes with screws to screw it into place so it doesn't move.

Locking Mechanism Failed at First Use

We purchased the version of this safe with a combination dial and override key. When we unboxed it, it looked sturdy and well-built. We used the combination dial to unlock the safe with no problems on our first attempt. Likewise our 2nd and 3rd "practice" openings went fine. We then tried the override key to open the safe, and again it opened without problems. We removed the override key, relocked the safe by turning the combination dial and then attempted to reopen the safe using the combination dial. This time the safe WOULD NOT OPEN. After several more unsuccessful tries using the combination dial, we tried to reinsert the override key to open the safe. However, the override key would no longer go into the lock. It appears that the key cylinder had somehow shifted halfway between the "open" and "locked" positions, so the key could no longer be inserted. Moreover, as noted, the combination dial also would not open the safe. We contacted Sentry customer service who told us to return the safe to Home Depot. The service rep could give no insight as to what we might have done wrong, suggesting that our unit had a defective lock cylinder. Maybe so, or maybe there's something else going on. We are so happy that we tried it out before inserting our valuables. We have no confidence in this model. Without further insight, it appears that this kind of failure could occur at any time with any unit, leaving our valuables inaccessible without the services of a locksmith.

First off, this safe is HEAVY! It was a lot larger than I expected and very hefty. Setup was a breeze, just be sure to check the back of the instructions for your access code. I accidentally used the code in the instructions and could not open the safe but finally realized I was using the wrong code. I would recommend this safe just due to its high quality, ease of use and its ability to lay vertically or horizontally.

Overall good for the price

Overall it serves my purposes, and it was cheaper in Home Depot than online. However the dial is plastic and flimsy as well as the handle which I really hate. When you pull open the handle you can see the thin piece of metal that holds it in place. I just know if one of my kids messes with it, it’ll absolutely break. Otherwise, it does serve its purpose. I am able to fit my handgun, two mags & a small bag of documents in the safe (documents are in diagonally - they don’t fit laying flat)

Great nds btr shelf design

I am setting up the safe now. I think it’s great. I purchased additional drawers and shelves and the inside shelf design could be more efficient. There’s wasted space. I would’ve preferred to have two more drawers, but the slots on the side don’t allow that. Nice to have the option. So far so good. Haven’t set up the combo yet.

Just the right size. Be sure and do your research and know what you want to secure in this safe. It is for documents and small valuables. Big enough to handle those items and be a deterrent to getting carried off. Sturdy locking mechanism. Sentry has a replacement warranty, checkit out. Home Depot's delivery is top notch.

We have a SentrySafe firebox but wanted to up our protection with this safe which is perfect for our permanent records (deeds, passports, social security numbers, birth certificates, etc.), jewelry, and some emergency cash. At 55 pounds this safe can be moved but not carried any distance. The simple combination lock works great and is battery free. The inside is spacious, plenty of room for our folders of documents.
