Real wood, well made, fine finish.
I'm pretty picky about furniture quality and I'm impressed with this bookshelf. Such a relief to find something that isn't complete crap nowadays. You can stain this but honestly I'm going to leave it how it came for now. Beautiful fine finish and very sturdy. 100% real hard wood.
This bookcase was relatively easy to assemble. Having a power drill makes it easier. Most of the holes were pre-drilled. The holes to install the backing were supposed to be pre-drilled, but they weren't. The backing iitself is a little chintzy, but does the job. The bookcase did not need much additional sanding. I chose to leave it unstained, but did use several coats of wood conditoner on it. Delivery was horrible. I ordered two of these, and both boxes were left outside, near the garage door. Luckily, it didn't rain that day. Both boxes had visible damage, but luckily the bookcases themselves weren't damaged.
While the bookshelf is very nice, the instructions to put it together are horrible. Wants you to install the anti tip over whether you want to or not & has no predrilled holes to show you where the screws go & all the edges are finished so it was difficult to figure out which way each piece went. In the end ended up w/extra screws that were not needed to put it together which makes you think you have done something wrong. Bought several other bookcases w/this order & this was by far the most difficult to put together. Had to hand screw in screws to the back of the bookcase w/out there being any predrilled holes & the wood you were screwing the back of the bookcase to was finished & you had to just hand screw in screws! While glad I got them together would purchase a different brand if I had to do all over again!
The shelf dimension is untruthful. We have a lot of 11 inch high books and the bookshelf space is half an inch too small and not what the product description says. It will require us to dismantle the furniture and try to move the stable shelf which is a huge time suck and a problem as only two of the shelves will be tall enough. Return is a problem and dismantling is a hassle. Usually trust Wayfair and have had good results. This was a critical piece for having guests in our home and this problem
We have three of these bookcases now and we love them. They're very sturdy and well-built. Most solid wood bookcases cost an arm and a leg so the price value for this one is incredible IMO. Fairly easy to put together. The instructions label the parts with letters but we noticed none of the pieces or hardware was actually labeled. A little frustrating but it was easy enough to figure out which parts they were referring to in each step.
current price is a ripoff
I bought this during the pandemic for about $150… the price they’re claiming “regular price” is crazy. This shelf is well made but has been disappointing for me. It’s a good height and fits perfectly on my wall but the way you have to space out the shelves is not that good for books. I wanted to put large art books on the bottom and smaller paperback books on the upper two shelves. There is not room for that. It’s annoying & I’ll probably replace this. Review text limit won’t let me say more
I bought the 72" and 60" shelving units (two of each), as I am setting up a small bookstore. I got the unstained ones, and did the staining myself. The rubberwood is nice looking, and the bookshelves went together easily. Well, except for sliding the backing pieces down the grooves that hold them in place. Staining the pieces made them warp a bit, and they were awkward to deal with. But I got them all put together by myself. There wasn't even one tiny lock washer missing in all four packages, and the directions were quite clear. I now have 4 very heavy, solid wood book cases, and the price was quite reasonable. They are quite classy looking, and I'm thrilled with my purchase. Highly recommended!
The color is nice, but that's about all that was good about it. The shelves were not pre-drilled, so it was very difficult to fasten. The Allen Wrench it came with was poorly designed and it caused the screws to become stripped before they tightly fastened. The product is NOT worth the price they sell it for. I even got nearly half off the original price, paying just under $200. It's very heavy, so they won't deliver it up a stairway. The back of it is just a flimsy board and if it happens to ever get wet or be near moisture, it will warp easily. It should have been designed similar to the bottom, top and sides. The back was difficult to line up with the top because it has to go into a slot on the top, so it must have already been a little warped. They also didn't drill holes beforehand for this flimsy back piece because it was difficult to screw into the top back of the unit. If you have tools already on hand like a drill bit, that will make owning this piece probably a lot nicer. But it was made in Vietnam, so go figure! Next time I buy things like this, I will pay attention to where they are made.
Once put together, the bookcase is exactly what we wanted. The picture's color was accurate enough that the color (Gray wash) worked perfectly. I gave it four stars for the following reason though. When attempting to put it together, the groove in one of the side panels didn't align with the groove in the base and other side panel so that the back piece wouldn't slide into place. Wayfair replaced that piece which almost didn't fit as well enough although we put it together in a different order and forced it together. It was a hassle to have the unfinished bookcase sitting on the porch for two weeks while waiting. The instructions also didn't mention the necessity to drill holes to adhere the two rear connectors that secure the back panels (they run vertically down the back). The back panel is also a little flimsy, although that's okay. We had an antique book case with a flimsy back panel as well so that's probably just how bookcases are made. Overall, we're very happy with it. It was just made a little sloppily, hence the four stars. In the picture, we still need to add the removable shelves.
