Can’t handle light winds and warranty worthless

I purchased the Silverback NXT54 portable basketball hoop just a few weeks ago and it toppled over in a light wind despite the fact that I followed the manufacturer instruction's on filling the base with water and even purchased a bag from their website to fill with 100 pounds of sand to weigh it down. The rim was bent and the company will not cover it under their warranty. Expensive portable hoop and a company that won’t stand behind their product. Look in ground or look elsewhere.

Wind Warning in Effect!

My son was so excited when we got this for his birthday. Initially it was great, then came the first windy day. Even though the base is full, over she went. Thought maybe it was a fluke accident, but no, it has happened 3 more times, including landing on my car and denting/scratching the roof. Not to mention the hoop itself is now oval and we will need to order a new hoop. Wanted it to be great, not so much.

Great value! Easy to build! Easy to move. Sturdy

Easy to build and assemble. The net is very easy to raise and lower. Base is easy to move when loaded with water according to instructions. Goal stood still in 20MPH winds during a thunderstorm. The only thing that takes a bit getting used to is the backboard. It doesn't have the same bounce and stiffness as other goals. I understand this isn't a glass, professional, semi-pro, etc... goal so I'm still giving it 5 stars. I think this is a great value per price basketball goal.

Best portable basketball hoops

This is an outstanding portable basketball hoop. I have tested many portables and the NXT ones are the most sleek and durable ones on the market. This is a great addition to my neighborhood and kids all down the street love to play on it! Excellent buy.

no regerts

super solid. stood up to pretty high winds 30-50mph, plays/sounds solid. our street isn't level so we needed to put the wheels up on a 3/4" board to get the backboard plumb. Took me a couple hours largely solo to put it together. Needed a little help attaching the backboard. Recommend using a deep socket or a box-end wrench for the acorn nuts that secure the pole segments together.

Amazing quality

As a family we have two Goalrilla goals, one in-ground and the one NXT 50 portable. Both are excellent products. Very well made and relatively easy to install. The in-ground goal is a beast and requires several hours for the total installation. Most of the time is spent digging the hole for the base and cementing the base in place. The portable goal assembly is definitely a two-person job and took us just under two hours to assemble. Be sure to have a quality metric socket and open-end wrench set available. Can't say enough good things about the quality of the hoops. Highly recommend both of them.

Tips in the wind

My husband and I easily assembled (definitely a two person job). We had it in the driveway and our son loved it and used it daily. Then the wind storm came and over it fell, damaging the hoop. We got it upright and hoped maybe it was a fluke. We checked the base and it was filled properly, but it just went over again in not a very big wind storm. Thank goodness my husband didn't park his car in front of it!

Great!

This is a great basketball hoop! Easy to assemble and easy to adjust the height. I was concerned about getting a portable hoop because I’ve never played on one that was decent, but I don’t have a great place to put an in-ground hoop. This is very stable and plays great. It has surpassed all of my expectations and I love it!

Solid and well-engineered

Solid and well-engineered goal. I was able to assemble without help, but two people is useful at a couple points during the assembly. We’ve had the goal for over a month and still very pleased—no issues with tipping in the wind during thunderstorms and our boys (5 and 7) can change height on their own (though that is not recommended by the instructions). It was worth the extra cost for me compared to the less expensive and less solid goals on the market.

Best goal available in the price range

Goal is much better than most in this price range. Saw reviews that said it took hours upon hours to assemble but those people must have never touched a wrench. Took about 90 minutes for me and my 13 year old son to assemble from unboxing to playing ball. Backboard is pretty sturdy and rim has nice rebound. I’m not draw back is when you swish a shot and the ball hits the support posts..you’re chasing a ball down like a dog playing fetch. A couple pieces of black pipe insulation around the support posts lessens this effect greatly. I have noticed the backboard and rim has an ever so slight downward lean. No, it’s not due to any installation error. No amount of adjustment, loosening or tightening would correct it but it’s very slight. Not really enough to make a difference, but is present.

Great value product

This is a great portable hoop product. It looks nice and feels very stable. It is a good balance of price point and quality. The instructions are clear and assembly was quite easy and low stress. The assembly time was probably more like 3 hours, I could probably do a second one much faster but it takes time to read and follow the instructions carefully the first time.

Best Portable Basketball Hoop

I purchased this portable hoop when my kids were 6 and 4 as I didn't know if our family needed an inground hoop. My son (now 9) plays on it all the time (everyday before school) and my daughter has started to play more and more. It's a great portable basketball goal that my kids can change the rim height easily on by themselves to go from 7.5' for my daughter to 10 feet for my son. I would recommend the aftermarket Silverback portable weight for those that live in windy areas. We've never had the goal fall over - but strong straight line winds (over 50mph) have pushed it a couple feet from where it sits.

Good value thus far

So far so good. I hope that holds up well. No complaints except for the birds that like it so much they poop all over the backboard and i have to constantly hose it down clean. I wish you guys would invent something to keep birds from perching on the backboard. Other than that looks good. Instructions were mostly clear and simple to put together. I’m the only person in my neighborhood with a silverback.

Fantastic hoop and great customer service!

Fantastic hoop--wish I had gotten this earlier! Our old hoop was a hand me down and was rusting and falling apart pretty badly--the older designs also tip over easily and had put a bad dent into one of my cars. The Goalrilla design is superior--rock solid in terms of stability, easy to move around, and the way you fill the base with water is much more intelligent having the base filled from the top to prevent leakage! The hoop is easy to adjust, and my son loves to lower it to practice dunking and hanging from the rim!

Quality hoop

Quality hoop. Not too bad to put together. The "90 minute" assembly would be by somebody who already knows how these things go together without needing the instructions, but the pieces were clearly labeled and the instructions were satisfactory. I'd consider it a good upgrade to the previous hoop we had to replace, which was also a portable system with a popular brand. My son weighs about 135 and will dunk on it, without pulling down the rim, and it holds up well. Definite better quality than your entry level portable hoops. I'm happy with the purchase.

Great Hoop

I bought this in February and since we live up North, we didn't get a chance to assemble it for almost a month. We put it together on our first warm weekend. Everything was labeled nicely, so we laid out all the pieces and got to work. We purposely timed this because it said 90 minutes. There were three of us (one reading the directions) and two bodies for lifting, assisting, etc. It did take us two hours and change to build. The directions were clear and matched up with the parts. The hoop is very easy to adjust height. The backboard is sturdy. We can't decide who likes to play ball more, the kids or the parents :)

NXT50 - It’s glorious!

I bought this in December to replace a “kiddie” sized hoop that we had used the past year. My kids started playing basketball in grade school, and I wanted something more appropriate for us to practice with at home. The adjustability was key for us. The 7.5 feet is perfect for our first grader, and we can raise it little by little to get used to shooting at full height. Raising/ lowering the backboard is quick and easy for an adult. The major selling points that swayed me to this hoop over other brands were the support through the base, and the wrapped edges of the backboard. This thing is sturdy! The support through the base is brilliant. It doesn’t move or shake. The entire system is stable. The backboard is rigid and gives a nice rebound. No wobble. Another nice feature is that the pole angles forward to bring the backboard out in front of the large, sturdy base. Assembly was very easy. The instruction booklet is easy to follow and broken into small assembly steps. All the parts are numbered and noted in the instructions. I assembled the hoop by myself except for two steps where I needed an extra hand. Nothing too difficult. My 7 year old was able to pitch in. Total time was about 1.5 hours. Once assembled and filled, this is very heavy. Tough to move with one person, but following the directions and using two people, you can move this around to where you need it. Note that this ships via freight. You’ll end up scheduling a delivery with a trucking company once they receive the pallet.

Gr8 not hard to build hoot system.

We got another brand before this one (Spalding) and it sucked to put together. We struggle with it so much we returned it partially put together. Long story shortened, just get this one. Very easy to put together solo if you are good at this kind of thing but much easier with 2-3 people. Looks cool when completed and every bit of fun. Can’t recommend this one enough. My son and I love it, even my wife and daughters try to get some buckets on this thing. You can easily adjust the height. Get this and you won’t be disappointed. Spaldings customer service was terrible as well.

Would Not Assemble

Received the goal well packed and with all parts. Instructions were very detailed and thorough. Watched the assemble video and understood the process. All parts seemed well made. Assembled the frame and wheels without difficulty. There was really only one way they could go together. First problem was the the ballast fit very poorly to the frame pre-drilled holes. They were misaligned by at least 1/2" and I had to ream out the plastic ballast holes with a rat tail file to get the bolts through it and into the frame holes. Finally got the ballast bolts through the four frame holes and finger tight. Installed the lower pole piece and bolted it to the frame. The pole flanges are welded and pre-drilled and can only fit on the frame one way. When I then tried to attached the pole support bars the holes in the pole would not line up with the predrilled holes in the support bars. No matter how I pushed things, the holes in the supports were about 1-2 inches too long to line up with the matching holes in the lower pole. Reviewed my assembly, watched another assemble video, loosened all the frame bolts and pushed everything as far as it could go to make the distance from the front frame holes to the pole holes as long as possible. Even without the ballast on, the support poles were still too long to match up with the pre-drilled post holes. Called customer support and as told to send a detailed email. Did so and was promptly replied to but without any meaningful response as to what I might be doing wrong or what might be wrong with my parts. The decided to send me two new post supports which arrived a few days later and were, of course, exactly the same as what I already had. When I informed customer service of this they had no other suggestions and we mutually agreed to my returning it. All I had to do was load up all 300 pounds of the this bulky thing and return it to customer service where I finally got a refund.

Very nice portable. Good value

Delivery was seamless. Building instructions were very very good. Took me 3 hours, and it does help to have an extra set of hands at a couple of times. End product looks great and performs perfectly. My 8 yr old son can raise and lower the height, and the rim and backboard play just like a gym. This is my first portable basketball hoop, so I can't compare it to others, but I'm very pleased so far. The only potential drawback I see is yellowing of the acrylic backboard over time. I'm not sure if that will happen but if it does it would be a bummer.
