[Rewarded Review] Like a dream! But I need instructions.

I bought this as my first sewing machine, and it’s surpassed all my expectations so far! I went for it because it was one of the few I could find that came with a cover. It’s such a reliable machine, so easy to use, and has been perfect while I’ve been using it to make my wedding dress.

Not in love with it.

I bought this back in November 2023, so I can now say what I feel about this. It is the fiddliest of sewing machines I have ever had. I have 2 vintage and 2 modern sewing machines and have never had the problems I have with this. The easy threader does not line up with the needle. (I've checked the height of my needle and it is correct). Every time I start the first stitch upon first switching the machine on, it gives off a loud quick buzz. Quite alarming if you are not prepared for it. I'm sorry to say, I wish I had waited until I could afford my usual favourite brand. I've never had a Singer brand and I won't be buying another.

Would not buy again

I bought this machine as a birthday present to myself. It worked great for about 5 months. Since then I constantly have problems with the bobbin. It gets all bound up. The motor also strains to wind a bobbin. It slows down about 1/4 of the way through filling the bobbin and slows down to an extremely slow speed. I’ve had it fixed twice and will not spend the money to fix it again.

I purchased this machine several years ago and am quite happy with it. I have had a couple of problems but both were taken care of much to my satisfaction. There is a plastic cover that snaps in to the space over the drop in bobbin: it locks in with small plastic snaps and they do break off. I have broken two of them; when ordered the new one, I ordered a couple extras. Perhaps I tend to be a little heavy handed. Now I'll have an extra.

[Rewarded Review] Singer Patchwork and Quilting sewing machine

I bought the Singer Patchwork and Quilting sewing machine. I was impressed by the he number of different stitches available built into the machine. I have tried several of the stitches and it sews beautifully. I also loved the different feet included in this purchase. It was a wonderful addition to the package. Thank you so much for your help in acquiring this sewing machine!

[Rewarded Review] Don't buy this sewing machine

When sewing in reverse, the machine takes a stitch forward before going in reverse and then switching back to forward, it takes a stitch back before going forward. Impossible to be exact, but in sewing you need to be exact.

[Rewarded Review] Had it for years

I’ve had this machine for about 5 years. I used it hit and miss for the first few years but really consistently (at least once a week) for the last two. I’ve done a ton of quilts, I’ve made clothes, I’ve sewn a whole dress in specialty fabric. I did 7 quilts just at Christmas. I’m very fond of my machine but I recently decided to upgrade. I thought it might be helpful for people to see a review from someone who has had it a long time. Reviews were really important to me when I was shopping for a new machine. I’m upgrading because I want an auto thread cutter and a knee lifter. I also want a machine that can go a little faster. As I’ve gotten better at sewing, I think I just need some more bells and whistles. That being said, I love this machine and it has worked pretty well for me for 5 years with no need for repairs or anything. It’s a great beginner machine. I’m including some pictures of stuff I’ve made on it. I’ve also done some really stupid things like jamming the needle trying to sew things too thick, but it’s never done serious harm to the machine. It’s always just bounced right back.

[Rewarded Review] Excellent features!

There are so many things to love about this machine. The only things I wish were different, are that the needle position button doesn't actually raise or lower the needle (you have to do that by hand), it simply sets in which position the needle will stop. I've also noticed the slowest speed setting is still kind of fast when navigating tricky turns. Neither of these things are deal breakers for me. It's a great machine and I'm very happy with my purchase!

[Rewarded Review] Disappointed

I bought this machine thinking I could replace my old singer with it and I’m very disappointed in the purchase. There is no basting stitch, no automatic cut off of thread, and the needle threader is a joke. I already replaced the bobbin holder (all plastic). This is definitely not a quilting machine because it only is designed to sew light weighted fabrics. Haven’t attempted quilting anything, don’t think it can do it

[Rewarded Review] Great Versatile Machine ! Good starter machine!

Had this model for over 12 years! Longest a machine has ever lasted with what I put them through!!! Great for quilting and so much more! Easy to learn to sew on this machine, making it a good choices for you if you're just learning how to sew seams and cut out a pattern! As your skills improve this machine will keep up with you as you tackle buttonholes and zippers! It won't stop there! So many decorative stitches allow you to add your personal touch to edge work! Quilting is made much easier with the extension table Powerful enough to sew through fake fur for teddy bears and 4 layers of fleece!!! Comes with so many great attachments! I'm almost 70 and have been sewing since I was 13!

Old Dog - New Tricks

I am almost 79 and I just bought my Singer 7285Q to supplement the machine I purchased a year after college. I'm not a quilter, but the "Patchwork" incorporatse all the advancements I've been admiring over the years. I love, as well as thoroughly appreciate, the conveniences. And the range of adjustability in the specialty stitches makes it much easier to customize my projects.

[Rewarded Review] Buyer beware!!

I had a great time with this - for the first 29 days of ownership. On the 1-month anniversary of my purchase the bobbin quit sewing normally. I cleaned it out thoroughly and oiled it per the instructions, redid the threading four times, and changed the needle twice. And the most I could get was 3~6” of straight stitches before the thing would go into s hard jam with a C4 message. So now, I’m having to spend the money to get it to one of the only 2 Singer-approved repair shops in my entire geographic area- and my plan to sew Christmas gifts for my family is on indefinite hold until I can get it back. I’m really disappointed and upset, and I’m stuck.

[Rewarded Review] Birthday gift

I was given this machine as a birthday gift last year. I just took it out last month to work on. Some projects for my grandkids. While in the middle of seeing a straight seam the machine stopped and gave me an error code of C-04. So I liked it up and found out what to do via the manual. It is a bobbin error , tangled thread etc. So I turned off the machine and cleaned out the bobbin case.

[Rewarded Review] Great inexpensive machine but not “precise”

My favorite machine finally gave up. I sewed mostly clothes and some crafts on that machine and use a featherweight for quilting. I started a list of needs in a new machine: buttonholes, lightening/stretch stitch, free arm, portable, etc. Especially buttonholes since that’s what gave out on my old machine. When I started searching, I didn’t have a lot of time to go to different shops to test various machines but needed something soon. I found this machine had everything I wanted - with multiple feet - and was a good price. I’ve had it about 4 weeks and overall am very happy with it. What I’m not happy about is the first time I changed the needle, the screw was so tight that trying to get it out somehow moved the needle bar over just a tad (about 1 mm) so that the needle is no longer centered. I will now have to adjust my seam allowance. And buttonhole location. Speaking of which, the buttonhole isn’t really the best. The slit width is very narrow which results in frequent nicking of the buttonhole thread. The buttonhole side zigzag length is slightly long, so it’s not a neat, narrow satin stitch. The other problem is the final buttonhole is not a true rectangle but more of a parallelogram. I simply find the buttonhole process and final result wonky. It works well enough but when you work so hard on the details, it’s tough to accept the machines shortfalls. It is quiet and does a very good stitch. But it’ll become a backup machine once I find a more precise machine.

[Rewarded Review] Loving to sew!

I really like my new machine!! All my previous sewing machines have been ‘hand me downs’. Good machines, but not ‘modern’. I love the features. Auto needle threader is awesome!! It’s easy to thread the machine and wind bobbins. I also like that I can push a button and sew without using the foot pedal; it’s very helpful to give my knee a rest sometimes. I did have to adjust the thread tension. The auto tension was ok at first, but then I noticed the stitch wasn’t exactly right. I tried re-threading the machine, didn’t work. Got out the manual and looked at the troubleshooting. I slightly adjusted the tension accordingly, sewed a test seam, it was better, adjusted again, tested and it was perfect. The new tension has yielded a perfect stitch since. I’m sewing cotton strips for a quilt. If I switch to a heavier fabric, I will use the auto tension and see how it goes. But I know what to do now. The only negative so far is that the machine does not come with a manual. I had to print out from the website. That wasn’t a problem for me, and in fact I liked it, because I could print out only the pages I needed- didn’t need the double pages in another language. I haven’t tried any of the ‘fancy’ stitches yet, but they are there if I want to use them. I also like the removable table extension. It’s very nice to have the extra work area. I put it on right away, and it will stay there all the time unless I need to sew around a sleeve. Great machine for a GREAT PRICE!!!

Lovely machine you won’t be disappointed!

After lots of research I decided to upgrade my 30 year old machine to the Singer Patchwork. So far so good. So many useful in built stitches plus many that I won’t use. The speed control is fabulous and also the needle up/down function. No more fiddly dials to change stitch length etc. it’s now all just at the press of a button. It’s very simple to use as it has a digital display with very few buttons so no worries if you’re not too tech savvy. It came with the table accessory for larger projects, however, I find that it’s nice to use it on small projects too. It is in my sewing room along with my Singer overlocker and they are both great machines!

[Rewarded Review] Very happy with my purchase!

Love my new sewing machine! I haven't sewn anything in a very long time. And honestly, I never enjoyed it much back then. I am always avoiding crafts that required sewing...no more! With a tutorial & lesson from my sister & the ease of this machine, I think I have found some confidence again along with some enjoyment. I didnt want a super basic model that I would regret not having some options I would want down the road, but a machine that also wasn't too complicated that I would never use. This sewing machine is perfect! I feel confident with the Singer brand to make a quality sewing machine as they have been around for a very long time. I am very happy with my purchase.

[Rewarded Review] Good, Quality Sewing Machine With Excellent Featur

There is still quite a bit about this machine that I'm learning. Overall, I like it! It pushes through thicker fabrics without issue. That alone is HUGE for me! I find it feeds thick materials well. The auto-matic needle threader is actually pretty darn cool. Once you know how to use it, it's pretty handy. I love how easy it is to swap out presser feet and how high it raises when lifted. This machine is a game changer compared to my old machine from 1997. The digital part of the machine took a little playing around with to become familiar. The needle can move either left or right with a push of either respective button - it has many position options too!! You know your needle is center again when the position number on the display is underlined - which is VERY helpful! The tension is easy to adjust by a wheel at the top of the machine - although I have found leaving it on auto has worked. You can also adjust stitch width through the display screen - the standard stitch width of 2.5 will be underlined so you know when you're "home" again. I love the little storage compartment on the front of the machine too - it holds all the extra presser feet and tools that the machine comes with. I feel this compartment slides on and off pretty easily too. I like that you can adjust the speed of the machine with a sliding bar on the front of the machine too - if I get careless with how hard I'm pressing the pedal, I don't have to worry about the machine going at warp speed and causing mass chaos to my project. I did think the thread cutter was in a weird spot on the machine. There is the standard cutter on the back of the post that holds the presser feet but that one is very hard to get to with the button rod - there is another thread cutter in the back lefthand side of the machine that's different from what I'm used to but it does the job and easier to get to. The larger sewing table is pretty easy to add to the machine too. A dust cover comes with the machine and slides over the top easily. There is even a spot for the machine's handle to pop out of the dust cover too so you can move your machine without removing the cover. I find the larger sewing table can easily be stored in the dust cover's storage pocket when not in use - it sticks out but that doesn't bother me. I find the different stich options are super neat to use. It's interesting getting used to navigation on the screen between the different stitches but not too bad when you're used to it. Overall, I would recommend this machine! I have more to learn about some of the machine's features and I look forward to that! I am in love with this machine and it seems to carry endless possibilities.

[Rewarded Review] Great Features at a Reasonable Price

I purchased the Singer 7285Q Patchwork Quilting machine as an upgrade from my basic Singer sewing machine. I have sewn a couple of items(no quilts yet) so far with it and really like it. I love that it has the multiple lines marking seam widths. The 1/4 inch and 5/8 length with extended lines are really helpful. I find the self threader very handy! I like that it has default settings for the different stitches. I look forward to experiencing many more of the features it has that my previous machine did not have including using the extension piece for quilting. It was very reasonably priced!
