"Ledge" Flexed and Books Didn't Remain Level

I'm bummed. I ordered several of these for my office so I could "decorate" my walls and have some books near a reading chair. My DH installed the first one a couple days ago and, even though we kept the size (max 9") and weight load (12#) well within parameters, the ledge sagged and the books didn't sit straight. Not only did it look dumb, I was afraid it would continue to sag over time and that one or more books might slip off. Returning.

Ideal design

This bookshelf is perfect for whatever size space you have. I started with 2 but found I really only needed 1 for all the various sized cookbooks I have. Before I was moving this stack of cook books from place to place or every time I cleaned I would find a new place for these cook books. It only took one of the concealed book shelves to get all the books off the counter and on the perfect nook on the wall. I don't have to keep cleaning over them anymore. They look great on the wall and since I'm collecting recipes more electrically I will likely need only this one. With that said I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another if needed!

These book shelves are solid and easy to install. It does not matter at all that they are strictly functional (meaning they are not attractive) since they are invisible, even from the bottom. The bottom book cover rests on two little curved extensions underneath the shelf. Hard to see in the photos but the extensions come off the back plate near where the shelf attaches to the plate. I uploaded a photo showing the view of the books from the bottom. The extensions are barely visible.
