Damage... from shipping?

South Shore was great about replacing damaged parts. But as this item is only available for shipping be aware that it will come in with damaged parts. Some of the damage was obviously from the way the items were packaged from rubbing together in the boxes; others like fully broken pieces were probably from them being dropped by mail carriers.

Pretty good

Pretty simple assembly but it took about 90 minutes with 2 people. But all parts, holes and screws aligned as they needed to make assembly easy. It would have helped to have written instructions with words rather than just photos of pieces that go together. We weren't sure until the very end that we did it correctly. One piece of trim came broken during shipping. Because this was a "direct ship" from South Shore (vc AFW), we had to contact South Shore for a replacement. They were very friendly, professional and ordering a replacement was straightforward and no cost to us. Very pleased with this interaction. The bed itself... I feel like all the screws or holes will be stripped if we ever have to move and need to take this bed apart. I guess that could happen with particle board. Overall, we are happy with the look of the bed.

Cheap piece of junk

This bed should cost $20, not $109. It is cheaply made. When it arrived at my house, it was extremely heavy and hard to carry. Required two people to get it to my room. One of the boards was broken in half. It would've been too difficult to return it because of the size, so we did a patch up job putting the board back together. There were some scratches in the paint and other chips in the wood. It was a hassle to put together and not at all easy. The product was just ridiculously cheap and not at all worth it. Would not recommend this product to anyone.

Best Price for a college student bed

I received this bed on time and all parts were there. Let get down to the nitty gritty. I literally have never built anything or put anything together before and this was fairly easy I didn't mess up some smalls parts but the bed still came together nicely. What you will need that is not provided is a screw driver, if you want to be fancy buy a drive the process might go faster. PLEASE BE ADVISED this package as a whole is extremely heavy. If you have to carry it upstair like I did take it out of the packaging and carry it up piece by piece. The slats are the heaviest. If you follow the directions you should be fine. I'm small tiny person and it took me about 30 mins to an hour to put together not including carrying this heavy thing upstair. I haven't put a bed on it yet but I did step on it and walk on it seems pretty sturdy but i'm only 106 pounds so.... I'll write a review after i receive my bed and had it for a while. Hope this helps. FYI not every screw uses a crew driver the first step you might want to use a flathead screw driver. DON'T FORGET THOSE BLACK PIECES LIKE I DID.

Great Buy!

So I'm writing this review because I really struggled with making the purchase after I read some other reviews. But I bought it and loved it and don't want anyone to have to debate as I did.

Regret buying

Bought this since September 2014. This frame is not only heavy as heck, I feel it is also dangerous. Literally weighs a ton. I am one too rearrange my furniture a lot. I've always had it easy moving lighter frames such with wheels. But it feels like a days work to move or lift this wooded frame. Requires two people.

Nice for the Price

I agree with others who have said ship it to your home. The packaging isn't huge, but it's very heavy. Although my daughter and I were able to put this together on our own, it would have been nice to have a video online to help us first. It would have saved us the aggravation of a couple of mistakes me made putting the top part together. It is not a bed your kids can jump on. It's all made of particle board, and should last, if you're careful. Another nice thing is you don't need a box spring, a mattress on top is fine. It does make the bed lower, so if you want the bed to be higher, you should probably have a thicker mattress to put on top. Underneath is a space to store things, but bear in mind, it's all enclosed, and you will have to either fold, or turn your mattress to get inside.

Poorly engineered, hard to believe positive reviws

I have a lot of experience with crummy flat pack furniture, and this is without doubt the crumminess one I have encountered..

Lasts maybe 2 months

I bought the item in July and it is now September, the bed is now broken and unfixable. I may as well go and build my own from Home Depot or Lowes. From the start the bed was an issue. It took 2-3 people to build WITH power tools (no we're not idiots its just that obnoxious). It is plywood (which I knew would be difficult since its so fragile but i was hoping for the best) so any mistake you make is unfixable. The way it broke was me sitting down onto my bed (I weigh 120/am a female) and I immediately heard the two middle boards, that support the flat laying panels from dipping in, crack and fall down, and turning the bed into a bowl essentially. When I took my mattress off to check it the boards had broke where the rods were that connect it to the outside pieces and hold it in place. I have tried corner braces and wood glue, only to realize that it was useless. I will be contacting them to either return it or replace it, hopefully return. I will be building my own, which will probably cost less.

Pretty but annoying to put together.

Honestly, i really really liked the way this frame turned out. It fit my mattress, and it looks very good in my new college apartment. Its sleek, you cannot see my mistakes and the light wood goes very well with my room. Its also very sturdy, and doesn't make much noise or slide around. Overall I am very satisfied with the product itself.

You get what you pay for.

Judging from all of the reviews I was not sure what to expect from this bed because the reviews were all over the place. What I can tell you is that when you first assemble this bed surface area of the particle board gives off a extremely harsh chemical smell. It was so bad that I ended up painting over it with a primer and a sealer which did make it more bearable. The overall quality of the bed is cheap. With the particle board it works as a bed frame for a adult but don't have your kids jump on it as it mike break the fragile planks. I do like the way it looks which is the main reason I bought it, but overall I would give it a 3 out of 5. The setup was extremely easy once you look at the instructions. As for the people who say they painted the wrong sides of the planks they are wrong, if you look closely its so that the headboard that would be pushed against the wall would not be visible while the inner board would be. It is heavy and requires 2 people to move the box but I was able to assemble the bed by myself. I would recommend using a power tools though as it makes the process faster. Lights are not included.

Very beautiful bed and good quality for the price

I bought this platform bed basically because the price was very good, and it was all I could fit into my budget. I was pleased that it arrived several days before expected delivery date. I was also surprised that the box it came in, though heavy was not very big. But all the pieces were there. I don't recommend this bed for anyone who does not have the time or the patience to assemble it. Luckily, my husband and son worked together on this and were able to set the bed up in around an hour or so. They actually enjoyed doing this project and when they were finished. not only did I love how the bed looked, so did they. The mattress fits perfectly on it. You can have your comforter hang over the edges of the bed or tuck the comforter under the mattress so you can see the beautiful black trim of the bed, that is how I like it. It really is a beautiful bed and my son loves it. I am extremely happy with this purchase. I do not have anything negative to say about this bed. It's perfect.

Needs some help

You get what you pay for, so keep that in mind. I was annoyed that the flat supports are not coated at all, they are bare particle board, which will do some serious damage to the mattress. Also, the interior supports are only held in by pegs, which is a BAD idea unless you never move in bed or need to move the bed once assembled. Adding the rails per the instructions is cumbersome as well. My suggestion, get something to staple gun to or coat the particle board supports. I used an old sheet, wrapped it super tight around the supports -once I fixed those with L-brackets- and staple-gunned it in place on the under-side. I then pre-drilled holes to install the rails easier because the concept in the instructions was idiotic. The only thing that has covered/coated particle board are the rails. The exterior support boards are simply painted black particle board. No coating. Not bad for $100 so the fixes I put in place added about $10 to the cost, and the time to re-engineer the dang thing to make it stable. I don't feel I want to spend the time or money to coat or stain the wood, not for what it cost, so the sheet concept is sufficient to protect the mattress from getting shredded/snagged/torn. I don't get why this is naked particle board, I've bought cheap $10 bookshelves that are at least with some sort of laminate over the particle board.

it would have been a great bed!

I found the bed of my dreams when i saw this bed on walmart.com. I have never really ever put anything together before, but i took a chance because i wanted this bed. i waited almost two weeks for delivery (free home delivery is awesome!) I was super excited about finally getting my bed, THEN IT HAPPENED! the delivery person left my bed on the 1st floor of my building (i'm on the 4th floor) but i thought it was ok..i can carry it up, THIS PLATFORM BED Is HEAVY!! be prepared to put some muscle into carrying this thing, the weight is about 170lbs!! my roommate and I decided to open the box and carry the pieces one at a time upstairs, when i opened the box i notice my bed had been damaged through shipping, the whole bottom part of each individual wood piece was broken in half. im not sure if it was already damaged before they shipped it or if it was damaged during shipping. NOW its been over a week since it was delivered and im still waiting for a carrier to come and pick it up. Even though this whole situation has been very stressful, the walmart customer service associates I've spoken to have been very helpful and they even set up a carrier to come and pick up the package even though I am suppose take it in to my nearest walmart..do to the fact that I have no transportation or man muscle to carry such a heavy package, and even though this happened im not at all discouraged. So advice to all on a delivery like this, get it store delivered and make sure to open the package before you leave the store to insure you dont go through all the trouble of loading it up in your car, carrying it into your house just to realize its damaged. .and make sure to take some muscle with you...the weight of this thing is NO JOKE..i still wish the bed hadn't arrived broken..it would have made me very happy!

Great cheap kid's bed

Picked this up for my 3 year old that is growing like a weed. My wife wanted him to have a full size bed that he will grow into and this is the platform we choose to pick up for him with a sports theme room.

Solid Bed, If Slightly Difficult to Assemble

Bed arrived on time through Site-to-Store. In all, the bed is about what I expected. The only issues that I had with it were minor. One being that it was somewhat difficult to put together (the instructions weren't exactly confusing, but they did leave out certain bits of information, such as the fact that certain pieces of the bed that need to be attached with screws don't have pre-drilled holes, which makes the process slightly frustrating if you're not equipped with a power drill). I definitely would recommend having 2 people to put the bed together... It's not that it requires the strength or brain power of more than one person, but if you want the bed to be sturdy, having one person hold the pieces steady while the other affixes them is definitely the way to go. Aside from that, my only complaint (which is more my fault than anything, since it should have been obvious from the product dimensions) is that the bed really is quite low to the ground. This doesn't affect comfort or anything, but once a regular-sized comforter is put on the bed and allowed to hang over the edges (you can see the one in the photo here has the edges tucked under the mattress) the comforter will go pretty much all the way to the floor-- no one is able to see the lovely sides of my platform bed, and one of my friends even assumed that I was sleeping on a box spring/mattress combo that was set straight on the floor. Again, this isn't a big deal, as it's only aesthetic, but if that's something you're concerned with, you might do better to either buy a box spring (which isn't necessary, but will lift your mattress) or just go for a taller bed frame.

It's Allright now that it's together

I set out to put this thing together tonight and found it quite a task. It was much more difficult than it needed to be. I unpacked all the boards and the hardware pack and got it all laid out. First off let me say that only 2 of the boards were labeled, the ones that said "H" which were obviously the inner support boards. Everything else had no letters or numbers including the hardware pack. The instructions were nearly useless. They tell you what screw to use by showing a not so detailed picture of it and some weird 3 digit number like "299" and a measurement for the screw like "39mm" Like we should know what a 39mm screw looks like. The only way to identify what screw they were talking about was to count the quantity it lists next to the picture of it. So I got the frame assembled based on looking at the picture of the completed bed. Then I went to attach the side rails since I read another review here that said do that before attaching the platform board to the frame. I discovered that the rails do not have pilot holes or marks at all. You just have to guess where to place them. I ended up having to remove them and reposition them after attaching it to the frame. A note too, when attaching the platform boards to the frame, start at one side, and make sure it is perfectly straight. Then butt the next boards tightly as possible until all boards are laid. The first time I laid them I got to the last board and the last screw hole didn't line up with the side frame board. I had to remove them all and start over. After 2 hours of trial and error it finally came together and it appears sturdy, despite the fact that there were extra screws. (all the holes are filled, I am positive) As a last tip, do assemble this bed in the spot where you want it to sit, once this heavy beast is assembled it don't like to move on carpet. So the verdict, If you need a platform bed that is relatively cheap and you are good at putting stuff together with inferior instructions, this bed will work. Only reason I got it was to keep my cats from going under the bed, so it does serve that purpose. Just wish it had better instructions and part labeling, could have saved some time.
