Quality File

I read the reviews on this file cabinet and decided it was the right choice for me. It is high quality with drawers that glide effortlessly out with full extension. The separators work so much better than the older style. It is alsooffered at a very reasonable cost. I'm so happy that there is still a commitment to well engineered quailty products by some manufacturers.

Much Better than Expected

I hesitated to buy online, without seeing in person first. There was a very small dent in the bottom, but not in a very noticeable place. Otherwise, very good condition and much better quality than I was expecting from a store brand. Very sturdy and drawers and lock operate smoothly. Very pleased and I would buy again.

Floor model was last available, but okay for us

Staples 4-drawer file cabinet, at the Alexandria, VA Store 741, was the last available one in a 200-mile range, but just 2 miles from where it was needed. Being a floor model, it had some wear, and no key for the lock, but for our purposes, it was workable to urgently store archived files that needed ready access. Thanks to the Staples.com website that announced this availability.

Still a great buy

We purchased several of these cabinets in 2016. They are used in two office locations. They hold much more than laterals and take up less space. These cabinets are well built and have been filled to capacity each year, emptied as files sent to storage and then the cabinets filled again. Only a little more expensive than we paid in 2016. Well worth the money.

Good cabinet

Okay, it’s a file cabinet. But it’s a good one, built pretty “heavy duty”. Weighs a lot, a sign there’s likely plenty of good strong metal all though it. It was packed very well for shipment, allowing little chance of damage. Most impressive was the nice gentleman who delivered it. I watched him take it off the truck with the utmost care, load it carefully onto a hand truck (observing all the “this end up” and “no hand truck this side” markings) and he brought it up the front steps and into the house for me - excellent service!!

Flimsy but Works

I am shocked at the reduction in quality since I bought my other 4-drawer file cabinet about twenty-five years ago. I needed more file storage, and this one works, but the inside is made of ugly aluminum instead of steel, and the file folder label holders on the outside of the drawers are blue and really cheap looking. Fortunately, now that the files are in, I don't see the aluminum interior much and will try to forget about it. I will attempt to paint the label holders silver, which is what they should be.

File Cabinet - 4 drawer heavy duty

I was pleasantly surprised that the file drawers pulled out far enough that I could use the full drawer comfortably. Because of that, I can get almost double in each drawer compared to my less expensive, lighter duty 4 drawer file. It is a little taller and has a heavier base. Overall it is better than I expected, so I am happy. The specs on the website weren't clear whether it would hold hanging files. It does. I have only had it out of the box and filled up for less than a week, so have not discovered any dislikes (unhappy surprises) yet.

Great value

I wanted but couldn't afford a truly heavy duty commercial grade cabinet because I've bent way too many home use ones over the years. This one is actually pretty darn sturdy. I loaded it smack up and the drawers still roll great and nothing is bending. It doesn't feel tippy, even on carpet. It has the high sides to the drawers so you don't need to fight with the awful assembly-required hanging frames. The lock wasn't critical to me but is nice to have and works smoothly.

5-star Cabinet with 4-star packaging/delivery.

I really like this cabinet! 5-stars. I would classify it as 'light commercial quality'. The sheet metal is a little thicker than Staples' cheaper version of the same cabinet. The drawers lack only an inch or two to extending fully. The one I received had a small quarter-sized dent along the back vertical edge, and since that isn't easily seen in my setting I decided to keep it anyway. But the dent could have been prevented if the manufacturer used better packaging (4-stars), The box only has 8 Styrofoam pieces to protect the top and bottom corners, but no Styrofoam or thick cardboard to protect the edges. If the same dent had been in the front, I would have refused it for sure. Would I buy another one? Certainly, if I can catch it on sale.

4 drawer file cabinet

Replaced a staples file cabinet with a new unit. This unit is not as good as the old one due to cheaper materials and thinner material. It does hold files however. This would make it a four star, however delivery cost it a full star. The delivery person pulled the cabinet long ways thru the front door. The packaged unit is 36 1/2 inches wide and he made it fit thru a 36 inch door - pulling off part of the weather strip in the process. This is especially worrisome as he was asked to rotate the cabinet first. His response was to just look at the door and pull it thru anyway. The file cabinet was not damaged but he didn't know or care - he dropped it in the middle of the floor and left. wouldn't wait for it to be checked - but store policy does not make him responsible for damage to the unit. you must work with someone else to get damaged units fixed or replaced. I had to fix the door seals myself - actually preferable to the delivery people.

Exactly what I was looking for - both the 4 drawer and the 2 drawer vertical file cabs

I bought the 4-drawer Staples brand 26.5" deep first. Once I determined I liked it I also bought the 2 drawer staples brand 22" deep. I checked them over right out of the box for any dings or dents and found none. I'm not surprised because they were well packed with heavy duty cardboard & some styrofoam blocks to keep them immovable in the box in which they came.

Decent Filing Cabinet

We bought 6 filing cabinets and all of the locks were different. I called customer service to see if we could get matching locks, so we could just use 1 key for everything, and I was told that Staples doesn't do that. So I had to go through a third party to get new matching locks.

Very Good Light to Medium Duty File Cabinet

We use these for all of our office files, both active and storage. This cabinets are a great price and good for light to medium use. The drawers have high sides for hanging folders if you use them (no hanging frames needed - bonus!).They come with the wire file holders ("followers") for use at the back of a partially filled drawer which are a little awkward if you haven't used them before. I know some people don't like them, but they work fine and have the advantage of being removable if you have a full drawer of files. The sliding "followers" that have the push button release are generally permanent and take an extra inch or more of file space and that can make a huge difference when you have a packed drawer. By the end of the year our payable files are almost bursting at the seams, so that extra inch is very helpful to us. These cabinets really are a great value and good quality. I highly recommend them unless you really need an industrial quality cabinet.

Acceptable for the price

This cabinet is not as sturdily-constructed as an old, commercial Steelcase cabinet, but for the price, the thickness of the steel, the fit of the drawers, and the finish are good. The drawer slides are full-length, and the drawer catches are simple but close positively and strongly. The steel thickness does not seem "cheap and cheesy," but neither is it "heavy duty." It could easily be bent or dented. So, because the cabinet was delivered to me, I unboxed and examined it immediately after delivery. Fortunately, I found no dents. I've not yet tried the lock. My only complaint is that there is a "permanent" warning label (about "fatal crushing") affixed to the top drawer front slightly cockeyed, which I would rather have been easily removable (I left it in place). I purchased three of these, and am satisfied with them (especially considering the reasonable price).

Staples 4-Drawer Letter Size Vertical File Cabinet, Putty (26.5 inch)

I thought this file cabinet would work well for me; it is 15 inches wide, which led me to believe that the drawers would have at least 13 inches of space inside. But due to the style of drawer construction, that have just a little less than 12 inches of space. Thus, many pocket folders, that are a little bigger than manilla folders, do not fit into that space, and I need to cut off the tops of these folders, in order for them to fit in the drawers! I’d never encountered that before, so I am really disappointed about the less than ample space across the drawer.

The two file cabinets we purchased fits or needs to organize our personal information as well as my consulting business. I like the roller action of the drawers that allows smooth, quiet, operation along with the high sides that allows hanging folders to directly fit without having to purchase and assemble a folder cage like we had in our previous file cabinet. The locking system is very much an attractive benefit to assure security of the information contained within them.
