[Rewarded Review] No "words" in directions, Great Quality Product
Great quality, well packaged, TONS of extra parts. The only reason i am not giving five stars is because of the instructions. It was pretty simple to get apart, you will need at least 2 or 3 people, but towards the end when installing the roof panels, you are only to assume they should be lined up and tightened. But 3 steps later, after installing the rain guards, there are steel straps that hold down the bottom of roof, and if everything is tight, you will not get them to line up. We had to go back, remove rain guards, and loosen every panel to adjust, then everything lined right up. Look ahead in directions as you build!!!
We received the Gazebo about a month after we ordered it. It was in two boxes and packed very good with steal support bars protecting the boxes from getting damaged during shipping. They let us know when they were coming right down to a four hour window. We were ready and had them put the boxes on 2 pallets we had laid out. The boxes are very heavy so that's where they stayed until a couple days later when my husband and I scheduled a couple of days to put it together. We are two 60 year female and a male and we put it together in 10 1/2 hours. We opened the boxes from where we had them delivered and took everything thing out piece by piece and identified them and put them all in order of there numbers on the lawn. The wood is not labeled, you have to look at the pictures and figure out what they are. Which is why it's best to just take your time and unpack the entire wood box with the cedar and identify and sort. The day before assembly, I opened the boxes and took out the trays of hardware and instructions. I opened all the individual bags and wrote the identifying #'s on the tray so when a bolt was needed we could find it easily. I also looked through the instructions so I had an idea ahead of time of what we were doing. At first when I seen the think cedar pieces I was skeptical of how the strength was going to be. But these long planks that you put together gets sistered with another plank you put together to make it very strong. We both have physical limitations, so on day one (4 hours) we put up the cedar wood base. It was completely square both diagonally and side to side. We used a square, which wasn't in the instructions, to make sure the legs were straight before putting in the 2nd screw (there is no pre drilling for the lag bolts), so make sure it's square. We also had 10mm nut drivers and Philips heads ready and on hand for our drill, as well as sockets/rachet. Later on we also needed an open ended 10mm wrench ( we happened to have a ratcheting wrench), because when doing the roof there are places a drill or socket won't fit. Then day two was the roof. We had one tall step ladder and a couple step stools. Really wish we had 2 tall step ladders instead of only one. We assembled main frame the the 2 of us managed to get it over the frame so we could bolt it in the corner brackets. In hind sight, we wish we only put one of the 8 screws in corner brackets (the one towards center thet you can't reach with the h bar over it. It is hard with 2 people to line up the poles to the holes. When 2 were done it got easier, but when we got to the last one there was no way. We unscrewed the corner (E3) bracket, screwed the h on it, then screwed the bracket back on the cedar post. Most of the roof went good, was much harder then the cedar part. Pieces didn't want to line up, others fit like a glove. My husband at one point had to get a drill bit, drill a hole and use a self tapping screw. Because the hole was about a half inch away, and it wasn't going to budge. Finally the roof panels. We had them all lined up and in order, I handed them up and my husband screwed them in. As he joined 2 sides he would go ahead and put the corner pieces in, by this Time he was limping with going up and down the ladder so many times, so putting in the corners saved a little on the knees. All in all, was a success, instructions are mostly pictures, so pay attention to holes, cuts and the hardware needed. Very happy.
Wayfair Customer service and ease of doing business ; 5 addressed my concerns quickly
I thought this was one of the best fitting pre-fabricated sets I have assembled. My only complaint is that the directions were not easy to understand as they do not show the orientation of some pieces. Which matters later and you have to go back and disassemble to correct before you can move ahead . My suggestion is watch one of the YouTube videos of the Sunjoy assembly (by other real people like us) before you attempt to assemble this (Yes, this means you dude who thinks, "awww I can do it without reading the directions"). It's Super important to get the wood squared before you attach the metal or the roofing or it wont fit right! Finally, when screwing metal parts together, DON"T TIGHTEN UNTIL THE SECTION IS COMPLETE! When everything fits in that page/section, then go back and tighten. Same with the roofing, lay it all out, then place it on the roof and loosely tighten so you can make slight adjustments. Again, quality parts and this was a very well designed auto-cad pre-fab. Use your cordless drill bits on low torque setting and save your wrist! I put anti seize compound on all the screws and bolts in case I ever need to disassemble and sell/move it, but I think many of the bolts are pre-painted and the interior mounts may be plastic so they wont rust? The parts have letters and numbers on stickers, but you can write them on areas that are hidden after it is assembled. Also, I painted the wood with an extra coat of Satin "SPAR" Urethane to protect my new Gazebo! OMG, the two boxes are very heavy, but when you take out the pieces one item at a time, it is a very doable project and you will be happy with the final product. The measurements are are a little off, i ordered a 13'x11' and that is the roof dimensions, corner to corner. The posts are more like 12'x10' So if you are putting something like a jacuzzi underneath, just make sure it fits!
Awful to put together, pieces malfunction, breaks
UPDATE: My husband is STILL putting this together. Dropped down from 5 stars to 1. Not once, but twice we had to order a new part due to malfunction, breaking, screws getting stuck in places they shouldn't be. And then waiting weeks to receive the new parts. It's a disaster and the wood is not great quality, splits in all 4 of the posts and it's not even fully assembled. Note, my husband is extremely handy and we had 3 grown men putting this together with so many problems. --- Original Review: This thing is SOLID! It's currently in a million pieces in my backyard, but my husband and father in law have it all organized by piece and by instruction and so far it looks (so they say) easy enough to put together. Will post a photo when done!
EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED! Incredibly engineered and executed design. This product was very planned and well executed by manufacturer. They did an excellent job with fabrication, tagging, wrapped, sorted, stacked, and boxing. Arrives in TWO (2) Cartons. FYI, if they call prior to delivery, confirm a lift gate – Bill of Lading said it was Authorized by shipper – Sometimes they try to avoid transferring to a truck with the gate. Two people can barely move, push, slide the cartons on their own. Probably the heaviest cartons I have ever tried to move without a forklift. LOL
AMAZING GAZEBO!!! We are SO happy with how this turned out! My husband and I put this together in a weekend, while I was 9 months pregnant! If we can do it, so can you! Same gazebo, we just painted the legs white before assembling. We were pleasantly surprised by how well everything was packaged together in 2 relatively small boxes. There were a TON of pieces to put together but since everything was small it made it really easy for just the two of us to do it. Nothing overly heavy or awkward to hold. We love, love, love the gazebo! It adds so much to our backyard and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
The assembly instructions are lousy. Assembly pictures missing proper overlap of roofing panels. Wooden frame pictures have wood nuts in wrong orientation. Many bolt holes don't align, must loosen prior step hardware to align-wait to tighten all metal hardware. Metal washers too small in diameter to give good seal on metal roof trim. Roof ribs (joist) have threaded inserts which are not used, yet lead you to believe something should screw into them. L-bracket for vertical legs have anchor holes too close to post so normal sized drill too wide to sink plumb anchor hole. Otherwise an OK product but Sunjoy needs to greatly improve instructions and alignment issues. Delivery was fine and heavy cartons undamaged. Not missing and hardware or parts.
One year ago we saw this gazebo and knew it was just what we needed! So this spring we were ready to order and couldn’t wait for our packages to arrive although they had an interesting trip from California to Ohio. Our boxes were on a train and got stuck enroute because a train ahead of ours derailed. One week later, the boxes were on their way and had to be transferred because the delivery truck broke down. On the way again, but the truck flew by our driveway and had to circle back around to get here. Finally in the drive the truck driver said he had bad news that our package was damaged and it looked like a forklift had damaged some of the wood in the package. We decided to take delivery and hope for the the best. That was a good decision as the wood that was damaged was actually the amazing packaging there to protect our product. Every piece in each box was in great condition! I took inventory of all the pieces and my husband and I took some of the pieces inside our house to begin construction. The next morning we started putting the gazebo frame together outside and finished up that evening. About 30 hours total for two people. We discovered that we are missing each of the small corner metal roof pieces, but we are expecting them to arrive very soon. In the meantime our gazebo looks amazing, fits perfectly on our deck and everyone loves it! We knew this product would be wonderful and we were not disappointed! Thank you Sunjoy!
This gazebo is of fine quality materials. The cedar is beautiful. When we opened the boxes, the cedar aroma was amazing! Quality, heavyweight steel construction. We were not disappointed whatsoever with our new purchase. Construction was somewhat straight forward, but there were a few adjustments that had to be made along the way - nothing serious - all doable. One step was missing in the instructions, but easily figured out. Some areas fit very tightly, but we were able to rectify. What can be expected with a kit as well as if you build from scratch. No missing parts. Package was very heavy (500+ lbs). It was packaged in a very well constructed wood crate. Another thing to note is the measurement of the gazebo is based on outside corner of the roofline not inside dimensions. An 11x11 gazebo has probably 10x10 living space. We’d purchase this product again! Highly recommend!!
