Who designed this?

Humans have been making scales for around 5000 years, and this is by far the poorest example of a scale in the history of mankind. The surface of the base plate is rough and hard to clean. The recessed base plate limits the size of bowl you can place on it, and with a 22 Lb. capacity, that's a big bowl. The feet don't come out to the corners making it unstable. And since when do scales measure volume? milliliters and fluid ounces? That has to be the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I was in a hurry and grabbed the one that had the capacity I wanted, I've had other Taylor scales and trusted (past tense) the brand, but this example is a total fail.
