Overpriced.

If you are interested in early Paul Newman, and sub Hitchcock, fair enough. Otherwise hardly worth the money.

Good movie; disappointing sound quality.

The remastering leaves something to be desired. The sound quality is poor -- indistinct. There are no subtitles. A fine movie, but a rather disappointing finished product.

As Crazy As North By Northwrst!

Written by Hitchcocks screenwriter, this is one of several 60s thrillers in the jugular vein of the Master of Suspense! With a semi-nude Paul Neumann and the drop dead sexy Elke Sommer, this tongue in cheek spy thriller twists and turns in a very entertaining way! Just like North By Northwest, but without the matte lines!

Clueless in Stockholm

Oh those unabashed Swedes! Imagine ducking out of plain sight from Cold War Spies and the Polisen (Swedish Police) at a convention for nudists! If this seems like familiar territory and you feel you've seen this somewhere before, the scene was lifted right out of the "auction scene" from Alfred Hitchcock's "North By Northwest". And why not! Ernest Lehman, principle scribe for that Hitchcock film was also screenwriter for "The Prize". When Newman, a recipient for the Nobel Laureate, suspects that Edward G. Robinson, a recipient for the prize in science, who's experiments could conceivably end the Cold War, is really a political facsimile meant to replace Robinson in favor of keeping the Iron Curtain from falling, Newman must follow his instincts to uncover this insidious plot with the help of shapely Elke Sommer even at the risk of his own peril. Director Mark Robson ("Earthquake"), despite what few rabbit holes there are in the plot, keeps everything moving at a breathless pace and fast clip to a satisfying conclusion.

brilliant film

Brilliant film released at last on DVD. I have waited a lifetime for this to be released on DVD. Thank you Warner for finally making it available. A very Hitchcockian type of film, funny, thrilling and introducing two of the most attractive female actors of all time, the misses Sommer and Baker.

A Real "Prize"

What a fun movie! And a rare one--it hardly ever shows up on TV, so the Warner Archive DVD-R is very welcome indeed. Irving Wallace's bestselling novel was adapted for the screen by the great Ernest Lehman, who also wrote NORTH BY NORTHWEST. This story of espionage during the annual Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm bears more than a passing resemblance to that other film--and that's a good thing. Paul Newman is the innocent bystander (the winner for literature) caught up in the mystery (like Cary Grant before him), with Edward G. Robinson, Elke Sommer, Diane Baker, and others along for the ride. Fast, exciting, and surprisingly funny at times (Newman hiding from the bad guys at a meeting of nudists!), it also has an exciting musical score by Jerry Goldsmith. The location filming in Sweden is beautiful, just like the two leading ladies. Paul Newman saving the world--what's not to like? The Warner Archive DVD-R is excellent, in widescreen and vivid color. Enjoy!

The Prize WB Archives Collection

For a film that is almost 50 years old WB dropped the ball. For a DVD release it should have had chapter selection, commentary, and a music only score, would have been nice. All that aside it was great to see a film written by Irving Wallace, screenplay by Ernest Lehman, and starring Paul Newman,Elke Sommer, Diane Baker,Edward G. Robinson,Kevin McCarthy Leo G.Carrol, and other greats. It is in the Hitchcock tradition of Torn Curtain, with all the suspense, and plot twists. A very enjoyable film. I recommend it to all fans of things Hitchcock, and Paul Newman.
