This is not a Tuft & Needle Mattress

If I could give this mattress less stars I would. I was an owner of two original tuft & needle mattresses when the company was still tuft & needle. I couldn’t understand why this mattress was so horrible until I realized tuft & needle sold their company to a big mattress company that ABSOLUTELY skimped on how the mattresses were made. This mattress is so thin I can feel the slats of the bed underneath. It sinks and sags in the middle. I’ve had my ACTUAL original tuft & needle for 10 years and it still doesn’t sag or dip; if I didn’t have need for a bigger bed I would continue to use it. This imitator mattress is horrible. I wouldn’t let my dog sleep on this mattress. We have terrible back pain, neck pain and hip pain. I have never felt more miserable getting out of bed in my life. It truly saddens me because the REAL original tuft & needle was like a cloud. I plan to return this imitation as soon as we are able.

Terrible support

We were needing new mattresses 5 years ago. I was pregnant with our 3rd and the mattresses we had were killing my back. So I searched and searched and found T&N. Read the remotes read through the website. Finally made the purchase. And I loved it. Slept great, at first. Fast forward 5 years and 3 months and my husband can no longer sleep on this mattress and every morning I wake up with my back hurting. He started having back issues 4 years ago and it wasn’t until I started feeling the same that I realized it’s due to this mattress. It dips in the middle, if I lay a certain way I can feel it hurting my back, any time I move he feels it and always has. There’s just absolutely no support and no comfort left in this mattress. We rotate the mattress regularly and that seems to have made it worse.

Second Time Buyer - Lasts for Years

We originally bought a T&N in 2017. When we upgraded to a king sized bed in 2021, we came right back to T&N! Could not imagine not sleeping on this mattress. We moved the queen sized mattress to our guest bedrooms, and every guest mentions how much they love the mattress. We've had at least 3 guests then go and buy one for themselves. We haven't noticed any wear and tear or degradation. We continue to love our T&Ns and are considering buying one for my parents guest bedroom so visits home are a little comfier. We also have T&N sheets, and they are amazing. Highly recommend all T&N products.

We would not just recommend buying this mattress again - we did buy it again!

The Tuft and Needle mattress continues to give us a great night sleep! We purchased this same mattress about 7-10 years ago and loved it. We have moved a few times, tried other name brand mattresses, and always came back to our Tuft and Needle mattress. It gives us by far the best, most comfortable night's sleep. It works well for my smaller and my husband's larger frame and body. We would not just recommend buying it again - we did buy it again when it was time to buy a new mattress. We love this mattress and are sleeping very well on it.

My husband and I recently bought the original tuft and needle mattress as our old mattress we had was a pillow top and it was quite uncomfortable, so I would have to say the first few nights. I was a little iffy as it was pretty firm because we had put it on a boxspring, not a platform. But after about, I would say about a week of sleeping on this mattress, my back was/is not hurting like it used to. The set up was super easy, I think we’ve had it for about a month now and we are loving it. Tuft and needle came highly recommended by my brother who has the original and my mom who has the mint and the original in her spare bedroom, I went with the original because I do like a little bit firmer mattress. I feel like a little less firm you can put it on the platform frame, and it seems to be a little softer as that’s what my mom did with hers. So, so far a month in there is no negative things I have to say about the mattress, my husband absolutely loves it to. 🥰

Second verse same as the first!

This is our second T&N mattress and we are still sold 100% on the quality and comfort of this mattress. Our first one lasted years and is still great. So why did we get rid of the old one? We didn't. I bought a new house in Illinois and will be living here alone while my family finishes the school year and arranges to leave California in 3-4 months. I needed a great bed and it was T&N to the rescue...again! We have recommended these mattresses to others who have loved them as well. Our daughter sleeps on one too. We love our T&N and will be customers for life!

Decent... full size vs queen size

I bought this mattress a few years ago because my fiancée had one. His was a full size and I bought a queen. His mattress did wonders for my back. Absolutely no back problems or other pain. It was so soft and comfy. Mine has been broken in now since summer of 2020 and it is not the same at all. I'm kind of disappointed because I wake up stiff and with more back pain than I would like. I find myself going to our spare room to sleep on the full size mattress to avoid these problems. Wishing I had tried the mint version, maybe it would have been better?

Best Mattress Ever! A dream for preggos :)

When I found out I was pregnant, the second thing out of my mouth was "We're getting a Tuft & Needle mattress for the guest room." (The first was me telling my husband the good news). We've had T&N mattresses in our room for 7+ years and I cannot tell you the support and comfort this mattress brings to my daily life.

Good At First - Gets Harder With Time

I've had this mattress a few months short of 2 years. At first it was fine. In several months, it became harder and I got the mattress topper from T&N but it wasn't soft enough, so I gave that away and bought a used topper from a friend. Now, that topper is worn out and the mattress is so hard, it would be hurtful to sleep on and I need another thick topper. I really just want a bed that doesn't need a topper as it slips off my side of the bed in the night and needs frequent adjustment. It's not that the mattress has dips, it's just gotten way too hard and that's not covered by the warranty as far as I can tell. It's a disappointment as I bought a package that was well over $1,000.

Beware: this mattress doesn't feel the same as it did previously

I'm sure the T&N website won't keep my 1-star review, but maybe they will see this: this mattress is notably worse than than it used to be. I bought T&N's "original" mattress in 2017 and again in 2021, and both times it was fantastic. But I bought one again in December 2023 and this is not the same mattress it used to be. The "base layer" of foam support is now one-inch smaller than it used to be (went from 7.5 inches in previous models to 6.5 inches currently) and boy does it make a difference. I am sinking so far into this mattress, which never used to happen. I prefer a firmer mattress, and the previous Tuft & Needle mattresses fit the bill, but the "updated" version of the same model does not. Back pain and discomfort all around. If you bought T&N before, be aware that this "original" model has changed.

Best Decision We Ever Made

We love our T&N mattresses. We changed from an expensive tempur-pedic mattress to T&N several years ago and have been very pleased! I have a lot of joint pain and the tempur-pedic mattress was not helping. It was supposed to have a 10 year warranty, but it had a big indentation and was starting to feel too firm. I took a chance on T&N based on the 100 night trial period and it is the best decision I ever made! We recently bought a new RV to start traveling more and the first thing I did was buy a new T&N mattress for our new home away from home! Even before buying the RV, I made sure it would have enough room to accommodate a new T&N mattress. I can not sleep without it!

It’s not really the original 🫤

I bought an original T+N queen size back in 2016. I still have it, and it is hands down my favorite mattress I’ve ever bought. When I needed a twin, I ordered what the website calls “The Original Tuft + Needle”. After trying to sleep on it for one night, I have had to ask to return it. My back was uncomfortable within an hour of lying on it, and after six hours I gave up and had to sleep elsewhere. The new mattress is far softer than my original one, and not at all supportive. I did a little research, and discovered that the company changed the base layer foam in 2018, after they were bought out by Serta. It is misleading and inaccurate to call the new version “The Original”. I’m very disappointed, not with T+N so much as the mattress I first bought is no longer being made. I want to note that the customer service when I called to initiate the return was excellent. All the staff I talked to were friendly, understanding, and helpful. I am told that my cost will be refunded as soon as the mattress is picked up by their return contractor. I am just reall disappointed. I had recommended T+N to a friend a couple of years ago, and he gave away his mattress because he found it way too soft as well. I have to assume that Serta made this decision for profit reasons. It’s just a shame honestly. P.s. I gave it an overall rating of five stars so this will appear at the top of the ratings. 🤫

Own 3 and love them all

We have purchased three tuft and needle beds over the past 6 years. We still have all three of them. We have tried using other brands that were supposed to be more luxurious and help with pain but tuft & Needle has always been superior. We currently have a California king, a regular King and a queen. Every mattress holds us and our two dogs with no issue. We sleep well without waking in the middle of the night when someone rolls over. These mattresses do not sink in but they still cradle you comfortably. My partner and I both suffer from pain disorders and these mattresses have helped immensely with our sleep.

Chemical smell

I ordered a tuft and needle bed for my son about 3 years ago and had a good experience. I tried to order the same bad for my daughter. I thought I ordered the same bed as before. We received the mattress and the chemical smell overwhelmed the room. I noticed a tag that mentioned polyurethane, which was strange because all of the literature on the website said it was a “clean” mattress. It has been around a month of having the mattress and the chemical smell is still lingering. When my daughter wakes up, her hair still smells like polyurethane. I would have never ordered this mattress had I know the chemical smell and exposure. So sad and misleading.

Goldilocks Mattress

Finally, we have found the perfect mattress! We tried the Casper (from Costco) and it was rock hard and left our hips and shoulders sore. Next we tried the Nectar and it was way too soft- we’d sink in so deeply that it was difficult to even roll over. The T&N is juuuust right- that perfect balance of being firm enough that you feel supported when on your back, but has enough cushion that when you’re on your side your hips and shoulders feel padded and comfy. I’m primarily a side sleeper and my husband is primarily a back sleeper and we are both very happy with this mattress and finally sleeping soundly through the night. (I’m 5’3” and my husband is 6’3”, both of us on the thinner side.) Wish we hadn’t wasted our time with the other ones and gotten our T&N first!

my body still goes, "Ahhhh!" every time I get in bed! I can't tell you what a RELIEF (dare I say blessing?!) it has been to sleep more soundly and NOT WAKE UP IN PAIN! We were so happy with this bed we ordered another one this spring for our spare room -- at which point I realized I'd never reviewed the first one. And this mattress is WELL WORTH a lengthy review! TO BREAK IT DOWN: 1. Reasonable price. We spent less on this mattress than on its predecessor - a (very) recognizable "brand name" - and it's ALREADY lasted longer than that bed did. (more below on the VALUE for the price) 2. Quick delivery. This bed arrived more quickly than the bed bought at a store 30 minutes from our house AND there wasn't a $50 delivery fee! 3. It was exponentially easier to get the box up the steep narrow stairs of our 100 yr old Cape Cod home than it was wrangling the mattress box spring of our previous bed. NOTE: the weight and size of the box means moving it (especially up a flight of stairs) is a 2-person job. 4. Setting it up was super easy. NOTE: the mattress needs to "air out/inflate" for 72 hrs, so plan accordingly. Also, I highly recommend setting up the frame (info about that to follow... we're very happy with our choice for that, too) BEFORE opening the mattress, so it can be placed ON the frame for even easier unpacking. One person CAN do it (I did our 2nd order on my own) but it's easier with 2. (Additional note on the setup: there is a slight "manufactured" scent to the mattress [it comes wrapped in heavy-duty plastic], however it dissipates fairly quickly and didn't cause breathing issues for me -- even though I have SEVERE ASTHMA.) 5. As mentioned above, CONSISTENTLY SOUND SLEEP is such a relief! "Himself" works nights and sleeps during the day. Anyone who has experienced this knows that sleeping deeply and being able to get back to sleep quickly after the inevitable awakenings is NECESSARY for functionality at a night shift job. For the first week or so, my other half marveled at how much better he was sleeping and how much more rested he felt. Now he pretty much takes it for granted. ;-p As for me, I actually did careful research before we went to shop for/physically test the aforementioned "known brand" bed. THAT bed - highly rated, according to reviews on the seller's website - literally put me in the hospital with major back/hip problems. *THIS* bed has helped so much I no longer have to take Flexeril for back pain and sciatica. 6. My only (mild) complaint is that - like many foam mattresses - it's slightly warmer than I prefer. Not AS warm as others I have slept on, but still warm enough that I've had to discontinue the cozy flannel sheets in winter. A higher-end bamboo/cotton mattress pad mitigates some of that (WalMart's cheapos had no effect), and believe me, that's a trade-off I'm happy to make! ("Himself" actually appreciates the bit of extra warmth.) 7. 10 (or so?) years from now, when this mattress no longer offers the fabulous comfort and support we get now, WE WILL BUY FROM TUFT NEEDLE AGAIN!

Without a doubt the worst mattress. Ever.

This is the worst direct to consumer mattress around. Every time I have to sleep on it I wake up in screaming pain from my neck to my lower back. It sinks in horribly. Way too soft, no support. We got this bed about 20mo ago for my son. Unfortunately he has slept on it only 3-4x for half the night. We only use it when my daughter is jet lagged or sick and needs an adult to snuggle her in the kids room. We’ve started fighting about who has this job not because of the mid night wakeups, but because we can’t walk the next day because we are so sore. It’s been slept on about 30 days in the last almost two years and every time I deeply regret not trying it out before the 100 day trial was over so I could’ve got my money back. Stay far far away unless you like super soft beds and are immune to back pain.

Loved it….till we didn’t!

Bought a full size mattress back in 2015, was ecstatic and this was something “new” and different; I mean come on… a mattress in a box!? How cool! Worked pretty well, my 10 year old never complained about it….up until he started getting this nagging cough and constant itching. Dad and I thought maybe mold….tested the walls in the room, every soft surface, had somebody come out and low and behold….they checked under the bed and TONS of sparkly substance was underneath the bed and bed frame. Mind you, the bed frame is metal. We have this frame in every other room of the house. So, we inspected some more….yep…the fiberglass is seeping through the mattress. My son already had major allergies and THIS is just the icing on the cake. Please, beware of what you are buying. Never had an issue up until now. We have never washed the cover it comes with because it clearly states not to remove. He always sleeps with sheets on, and now this…the past four years of wondering why his allergies have gotten worse and worse….all because the bed has fiberglass and now his bedroom is covered in it. So disappointed.

I am writing a formal review almost 2 years after my purchase and my patience was correct as this mattress degrades in comfort very quickly with age. Like most others I was surprised at how firm this foam was out of the box but after a couple days of getting used to it I must say the sleep was comfortable and pain free. Fast forward a few months and I noticed as the mattress breaks in the middle gets softer and sags more than the edges. This is a problem for me because I often sleep on one edge and the middle feels like it's pulling me into a vortex. I now struggle to fall asleep and stay asleep because I have to constantly shift throughout the night to get comfortable. I've also had horrible recurring back pain upon waking up every few weeks. The entire reason I got this specific mattress was the reviews about comfort and pain free experiences. Side note: Tuft n needle was a small company focused on quality products at a low cost. They were then bought out by a big name company, serta I think. Since then the prices have doubled and the reviews on here have gotten worse. It's a shame because I liked how well liked they were prior to the acquisition.
