none if the holes are pre drilled. the screws and the allen wrench provided strip before you can get them fastened. garbage. i not only would not revommend, i would campaign actively against the purchase of this trash product

Quality, solid wood stool.

Could have definitely used another hand putting together; otherwise, assembly was straightforward. The stool is solid and well made. I use it as a side table as well as extra seating.

Okay for the price

Bought these as I was looking for bar stools that were simple and black. Although they look good, they were hard to assemble. Not all the holes were properly aligned to match with the pieces. The Allen key wasn’t the best either so I used a screw driver. If assembly was easier I would have given 4 stars.

What is happening

Impossible to put together nicely. I stripped 2 screws BY HAND with a hex key wrench before finally realizing that the wood is stronger than the wood screws they provide. There are predrilled holes but they’re way too small so if you insist on getting this then re drill those before even trying. In all of the furniture I’ve put together over the years I’ve never had anything that should be so simple turn into such a disaster. Even if I wanted to return it some of the screws are impossible to get back out!

Nice, sturdy stool

I bought two for sitting by the kitchen island. They are able to slide close to the island and take up very little floor space. They are very sturdy and nice looking too. Not hard to assemble except the seat part. All screws are tightened with an ellen wrench. Putting the screws in the legs was easy. The seat part was a whole other story because there is limited turning space. But somehow, I got all of them tightened without using too many four letter words! These are well made for the price. I would recommend them. Shipping was fast and efficient. I will definitely consider Hayneedle for future purchases.

Great stool at a great price

We got these on sale and love them. Pretty easy to assemble, though the hex wrench that comes with them is a soft metal as it rounded out. Fortunately, we bought four of them and I was able to use the wrench from one of the other boxes. You won't be able to use a screw gun to put the legs on because of how close the hole is to the seat, but there is plenty of room to use one in the braces. I'd recommend it actually because at 8 screws per stool, you'll be at it for days going by hand. . . . . Stools are solid and have a really good weight to them. We have them on Luxury Vinyl Planking, and put 1" adhesive felt sliders on the bottoms and they work great. The perfect height for a standard breakfast bar. They put not my wife and I at a good siting height in relation to the island where we have them. I am 5'11" and my wife is 4'11" for reference. . . . . I would highly reccomend them.

Purchase was easy and delivery quick. Assembly was straight forward but the wrenches provided stripped quickly and had to be tossed. . . We use the stools at our breakfast bar for our three kids--we wanted an inexpensive wooden stool with a simple style that does not distract from our modern kitchen in a house with historic tin ceiling and federal trim. The stools are made from solid wood and thus pretty heavy and sturdy. The color looks pretty accurate in the photo, but they were darker than we expected. We thought they would be more of a honey-colored walnut. The legs are unfortunately a little uneven and some of the stools wobble--still deciding if this is bothering us enough for the really good price. Otherwise, we would have given five stars.

Love these!!!

I love these stools and I believe they'll hold up well. They feel very sturdy. The reviews I read about these being impossible to put together almost scared me off but I'm so glad I went ahead with the purchase. I ordered three and while the instructions were a little confusing, these really weren't that much more difficult to assemble than any other piece of furniture I've purchased. Just line up the dots, hand tighten your screws, and use the supplied tool to tighten a little more. I think the thing to remember is not to tighten your screws all the way until the unit is assembled. Also, remember not to over tighten. I did use wood glue on all joints and this did add to the assembly time, but in all, three stools took less than an hour to put together. The first one took about half an hour but I quickly got the hang of it and the last two took about ten minutes each. All three stools came in perfect condition. These really are beautiful when put together. I ordered the maple color and they are a very rich, dark brown. Exactly as pictured and very expensive looking. I don't think you'll regret this purchase, especially for the price. My only complaint is that a weight limit was not listed in the description, but again, these feel very sturdy. I was considering ordering one more as I did not think they would fill up my counter space as well as the stools these replaced (standard small round metal swivel stools with microfiber seats) but these are so substantial that I don't need another one. I love these, and my very picky husband likes these too!! Bonus!
