Crazing after light use

I love this dish but as others said, it developed cracks in the glaze (crazing) after only a few months of light use. It's attractive and lightweight but not durable at all. The crazing renders it not safe for food but I discovered that it's the perfect size and height to re-purpose as a holder for a pie (in an aluminum pie pan.). Pretty expensive pie storage dish but otherwise it looks nice on the outside.

Not the Italian countryside that

Not the Italian countryside that once was….has a metallic sound. Cracks in glaze and looks like it’s been made from a cheap mold not the craftsmanship we once could expect

R. Taylor

I do not recommend this dish for baking. It developed cracks in the glazing just after once use. I returned it thinking it was a defect and the same thing happened with the 2nd dish. With this dish I used it a second time and the glazing cracked completely through. Had to throw it away. So disappointed. Also, Mikasa dishes chip easily.

Mikasa Square Baker

I love Mikasa Italian Countryside. I have the dishes and several serving dishes and flatware. Good quality products. This dish is great when you don't need a 9 x 13 size.

Cracked Within a Month

We received 2 of these square bakers and 1 square Mikasa Italian Countryside casserole dish for our wedding and would not recommend them to anyone. All three of them cracked within a month of use. We love the Italian Countryside line for everything else (bowls, plates, etc.), but do not expect to put any Italian Countryside casserole dish or baker in the oven or it will crack.

Can't Bake In It

I thought this would be lovely and when it arrived the direction indicated you can only microwave with it. How can this be called a BAKER? One doesn't bake in a microwave! Very disappointed. Thought it would be great to serve a brownies in for company. Needless to say I sent it back

The product is not oven safe.

The square baker is supposed to be oven proof. Upon use it developed cracks in the glaze. The bottom is stamped for dishwasher safe and microwave safe. Mikasa should not feature this product as ovenproof. I had to dispose of the dish for fear of further cracking. Very disappointing.

Perfect size baker

I was absolutely delighted to find the Italian Countryside square baker. The size is perfect for our needs. The only problem I had with them is that both of mine developed cracks in the glaze upon using them the first time. When I washed them out, I could see the long cracks and water was absorbed into the baker. I had baked lasagna in them at 425 degrees. The bakers are supposed to be good to 485 degrees. Since both bakers had the cracks, I have to think that there is a problem with the glaze. I will not be using them to bake in any more. Perhaps I will use them for cold dishes from now on.

What a dish!

I had been looking for a 9"-10" dish for a special caserole. I even ordered a 9" dish from another company but after receiving it and measuring it, it was only 8". That wouldn't be sufficient. Then I had the problem of returning it. Not only is this dish 10" exactly but it is a beautiful white ceramic dish - one that could very easily go on your dining room table. I have used it and the cleanup was extremely easy. Anyone would enjoy this purchase.

I wanted this to work

The very first time I used this dish, to bake a chicken casserole at 350°F, the dish developed cracks. They're unsightly but not too deep, but ever since I've been worried that if I baked something else in the dish it would break in the oven. Other Mikasa dishes note on the bottom that they're oven safe. This one says it's dishwasher and microwave safe but doesn't mention ON THE PRODUCT that it's oven safe or to what temperature. That's a shame for something that is described as a "baker."
