this is a large, melamine bowl. It would say it is great for on ice salad bar, or as a family size salad bowl. Which is how we are using it. It serves up enough salad for 10 easily. It cleans with soap and water. and can I have NOT tried in a dish washer. As melamine, tends to loose it's sheen in dishwasher. I am not sure if it would be a waste to put through a commercial dishwasher, since it's a bit delicate. This will shatter, if dropped on a hard floor. and scratches fairly easily. But the UPSIDE, is it's size. This will hold 5 pounds of pasta for a salad bar. Do not use for HOT LIQUIDS OR HOT FOODS, this is a cold food bowl. It mixes well with bright white and bone china place settings.
