[Rewarded Review] Learn how to package

Showed up beat and did not work. Maybe don’t ship it in the OEM box and spend a little money on packaging so the item doesn’t get destroyed in shipment

Good machine, can be better at this price

Our previous ice cream maker from a popular brand was made of Aluminum covered with Xylan (polypropylene) non-stick coating. After researching for steel bowls I came across this model, which had a steel bowl & steel blade. I think this model is overpriced, as it is not 100% steel, the center part of the bowl is made of plastic, I think at this price they could've made it 100% steel. But it's better than most ice-cream makers currently available. Used it a couple of times, and so far it has done a good job at churning and freezing the ice-cream. Also tried the yogurt maker function and it does a good job as well. Once the ice-cream is ready, it's much easier to empty the bowl, unlike the bowls that need freezing before use. I hope it lasts long, for the price we paid.

Works as expected!!

I have used this Whynter to make ice cream, greek yogurt, and frozen yogurt. It has worked amazingly well turning out beautiful products in every attempt. To my surprise when making yogurt the machine automatically switches from a warm setting to a cooling setting when the yogurt has finished fermenting. I discovered this when I forgot to check the status of the yogurt in the machine before going to bed. Surprise -- I woke up to perfectly "set" and chilled yogurt. Ice cream is perfectly churned and chilled in an hour -- just don't forget to bring the cooked custard down to room temperature before pouring it into the machine to churn. The stainless churn and bowl make for easy cleanup and are dishwasher safe, with no plastic parts to break down. Overall, I am very pleased with this product!

GREAT Ice Cream Maker (with a minor "beef")

We're longtime ice-cream makers and have been using the old 1990s Williams Sonoma maker which to this day still works great but uses salt and has a smaller capacity. This machine gets an A++ on the stainless dasher, on the big bowl / capacity, on the slick vertical look (takes up less counter space), on the ways to adjust settings, and on making great ice cream / frozen desserts. ONLY one minor beef (reason for losing a star) is the digital button adjustment system (speed vs hardness) is clunky--one adjustment requires stopping, the other while the thing is in motion and then there's the pause--if you press wrong you lose all your settings and the timing. I was wishing it would work more simply like the Vitamix where you have a manual dial or button for each feature you set before it starts (eg. here one dial for soft/hard, one for speed, one for time, one for either "just keep cold" or "just mix") and a pause (digital or manual) that lets you adjust in the most straightforward way with each dial (add time, change speed, etc). I got the hang of the new system better by batch 2 but I still miss the straightforward simplicity of the W.S. original 'workhorse' one (with sep. dials). I'd still highly recommend this one though!

Perfect for me

This machine is what i have needed for some time. Living in rural America, it is tough for a person who can’t tolerate dairy ice cream. Now, I can make coconut milk ice cream whenever I want! I can make my traditional ice cream loving family dairy ice cream too without having to wait for a tub to refreeze. My options are endless. I love this machine. Be sure to read the manual. One of my nondairy recipes got harder faster than expected and the motor shut itself off to protect from burnout. This is a positive feature not a defect. I have had this machine about 3 weeks now and am very pleased with this purchase.

Good machine, poor tech support

The machine works - it makes very good ice cream. It is not necessary to pre chill the mixture. Cleanup is easy but could be easier if the parts could go in the dishwasher. It would be a lot easier to learn how to use, if the manual and phone support were not so terrible.

Perfect for families who need non-dairy ice cream

So far, we made 5 batches of ice cream (dairy and non-dairy), and they all turned out yummy

What a treat :)

Got this as a birthday present, and I can’t wait to experiment with it. I love that it has a compressor so you don’t have to freeze anything ahead of time. The recipes were a little hard to follow at first, and the portions seemed slightly off. The machine itself is great and easy to use so far.

Easy to use. Delicious ice cream.

This product has been amazing. We’ve made 4 batches of ice cream so far and it’s SO easy to use. Just throw in your ingredients and then the product on. Less than an hour later, it’s done! Delicious, healthier option to store bought ice cream with ingredients I can’t even pronounce.

Great ice cream maker!

Love it! The stainless steel bowl is great, instead of one coated in chemicals. The convenience of the compressor is a definite time saver, it makes ice cream quickly. Made several batches and has been great so far!

Great Product!

Wow! I am loving my new Whynter 2.1 Quart Upright Ice Cream Maker. It is so easy to use and so quiet. It is so smart; it even knows when to stop churning, but it continues to keep the ice cream at the right consistency. I made banana ice cream already, and it was delicious! Thanks for a great product!

Ice Cream at its finest

The Whynter upright compressor ice cream maker with Stainless Steel bowl & churn #ICM-255SSY works great! I've made two batches of ice cream so far (one using the Whynter custard base recipe and one using a blogger's recipe) and they both turned out VERY good. I debated about getting a different brand (Lello) but heard better things about customer support with Whynter (they have already been helpful answering questions) and I really like that you can remove the bowl from the machine to wash it (the other brand did not let you remove the mixing bowl). I also like that the bowl and churn on this model are stainless steel. I'm so glad I went with a compressor model. I like making the ice cream mixture a day ahead and freezing it in the machine the next. With this machine, I can control the ingredients, experiment with flavors, and make a large batch relatively quickly (I have used the 60 minute default so far.) It's easy to add mix-ins and to keep the machine cold until you are ready for dessert. I recommend keeping it on your countertop as it's heavy but it also looks nice.

Great service at stores, but return department see

The ice cream maker I ordered came just three days after I ordered it. Fantastic. However it did not work. I returned it the same day to the local store where I placed the order. I was told a replacement would be sent soon. All the paperwork looked OK. Now, almost three weeks later, they are sitting on the replacement waiting for me to return the product I already turned over to them.

I really like this ice cream maker! The day it came I had it out of the box and on the counter making ice cream. It was easy to set up and I made a recipe out of the booklet that came with it. It took an hour to make but I think I could do a couple of things to speed up the process, like cool the mix in the refrigerator and maybe put the bowl in the freezer but I did none of those things and it did take an hour to make. The noise level of the machine was good. It was quieter than expected which was a nice surprise. I’m looking forward to making ice cream with my granddaughters!

Price match guarantee

I waited a while to purchase this because the price tag was so high and I was hoping for competition, a price drop, a deal, something. I finally bit the bullet, and got the machine delivered. Then I check the website a couple days later (literally) and I see Williams Sonoma dropped the price by $100. Sonoma has a price match guarantee; maybe they can price match themselves and cut me a break? I am, after all, within the 30 day window for returns. Should I just return it and buy it again for a discount? 1 star for fast shipping. 1 star for Whynter making quality products. But I’m withholding 3 stars for the high pricing by Williams Sonoma.
