Few things are more frustrating than managing a return process for a new piece of furniture you had hoped would be beautiful in your home – especially if you had to construct and then deconstruct the item to make it ready for return.

AllModern, part of the Wayfair family of brands, has a clear return policy designed to provide flexibility, but it's important to be aware of the details before making a purchase. Here’s everything you need to know about AllModern’s return process.

1. General Return Policy

AllModern accepts returns for most items within 30 days of delivery. To qualify for a return, the item must meet these conditions:

  • It should be in its original, undamaged condition.
  • It must be returned in the original packaging. If the packaging is damaged, you can use a similar-sized box, but the item must still be packaged securely.

AllModern does not cover return shipping costs. The return shipping fee will be deducted from your refund. If you’re unsure whether your item is returnable, check the product details on the website or contact customer service.

Outbound shipping fees (such as expedited shipping or room of choice delivery) are non-refundable.

2. Non-Returnable Items

Certain items are non-returnable, including:

  • Clearance or “final sale” items
  • Personalized or custom-made products
  • Gift cards
  • Assembled or modified items
  • Open box items (unless they arrive damaged or defective)
  • Live plants
  • Hazardous materials (e.g., flammable liquids, propane tanks)

3. Return Shipping Fees

AllModern does not offer free returns, so the return shipping fee will be deducted from your refund. The fee depends on the size and weight of the item and will be calculated when you initiate the return.

  • Note: Delivery charges, assembly fees, and shipping upgrades collected at checkout are also non-refundable.

The return shipping cost depends on the size, weight, and shipping method for the item. While we can't give exact numbers, here’s roughly what you can expect:

  • Small items (e.g., decor or small accessories): Return shipping fees typically range from $4.99 to $9.99, depending on the item’s dimensions and weight.
  • Medium-sized items (e.g., chairs, small tables): Fees for these returns can range from $10.00 to $49.00.
  • Large items (e.g., sofas, beds, large furniture pieces): For larger items, return shipping fees are higher, often ranging from $50.00 to $200.00 or more, depending on the shipping distance and item’s weight.

4. How to Make a Return

Returning an item to AllModern is straightforward. Here’s how:

  1. Go to My Orders: Log into your AllModern account and navigate to the "My Orders" section.
  2. Select the Item: Choose the item you want to return and click “Return.”
  3. Complete the Form: Provide details about your return, including the reason and your preferred return method.
  4. Receive a Return Label: Print the prepaid return label provided by AllModern.
  5. Package the Item: Ensure it’s securely packaged in its original or similar-sized packaging.
  6. Ship the Item: Drop the package at your local carrier or schedule a pickup for large items. Return shipping fees will be deducted from your refund.

5. Damaged or Defective Items

If your order arrives damaged or with missing parts, AllModern has a separate process:

  • Report the damage or defect within 30 days of delivery.
  • Contact customer service with photos of the damage or missing parts.

In these cases, AllModern may offer a replacement, repair, or full refund, and the return shipping fee will typically be waived.

6. Refund Process

Once your returned item is received and inspected, AllModern will process your refund. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Refund Timing: Refunds generally take 3-5 business days to appear on your original payment method after processing.
  • Refund Amount: Your refund will be the original purchase price, minus return shipping fees and any other non-refundable charges (such as delivery costs).

7. Can You Exchange Items at AllModern?

AllModern does not offer direct exchanges. If you want a different item, you’ll need to return the unwanted product and place a new order. Keep in mind that you’ll still be responsible for return shipping fees for the original item.

8. Special Return Policies

  • Large Appliances: Large appliances can be returned within 48 hours of delivery if they haven’t been installed. Before installation, inspect the appliance thoroughly. Once installed, appliances cannot be returned.
  • Mattresses: Mattresses come with a 100-night free trial, excluding certain types like mattress toppers and open-box mattresses. If you decide to return the mattress, a fee of $49-$99 may apply.

9. Extended Holiday Return Policy

For purchases made between November 1 and December 31, the return window is extended until January 31 to accommodate holiday shopping.
