I thought it was good until I had to install. Like many have said the holes rarely line up with studs and when two rails are connected in sync the holes on each rail aren’t on the same pattern. The wheels could also be slightly smaller to allow less overlap of doors.
Sturdy, well engineered, and good looking, in an industrial kind of way. I needed bypass doors to cover a 66 inch opening over a laundry closet with two 36” wide barn doors. The left side of closet opening had an adjacent wall less than 10” from opening so doors could not slide open very far the left. Bypass doors were the perfect solution, providing full access to the closet. My contractor had to mount the brackets toward the edges of the frame of the door to get the measurements right so it took some pre-thought calculation to place the brackets correctly to get maximum access to the closet. This was needed so closet organizer drawers and doors and drawers of appliances could operate fully. This was a tight squeeze, but the bypass hardware made the whole closet and laundry access possible. I would recommend without hesitation to anyone who needs a bypass door set up for barn doors in a tight space.
Very nice color plates, and well packaged. Have a nice simple, yet elegant look to them. I ordered 2 sets of these in the periwinkle color. One of the large plates had a large chip out of one edge. So I called customer service, sent them a picture of the chipped plate, and was told they would replace my plate. Well, to my surprise...I received a whole other set! Wow! I was only expecting to receive one plate. And no chips or anything in the replacement set. So Bonus!
They seem fine except one issue. The mounting holes are 16in apart which matches the spacing of most studs. When joining two rails the spacing gets messed up. The first hole is 6 inches from the end of the rail. That means joining two rails puts them 12 inches apart. Then the mounting holes on one rail line up with studs but the holes on the second tail are 4 inches from heavy stud. The easy fix would have been to make sure the last mounting hole is 8 inches from the end which would put them 16inches apart when joined together. This means all of the holes would line up with the studs. Would recommend looking at other rails if you need to join more than one rail. I will say other rail systems seem to have the 8 inches needed from the mounting hole to the end.
Great Hardware. Make sure that you read all these directions to install plus anything that they may have stuck on the back cover of the instructions! They put sticker updates for something that you need to do early on and you’ll have to go back and redo part of your door, if you do not, or you may ruin your door.
This kit is top-notch. Easy to install, durable, and visually stunning, it gives a perfect rustic charm to any interior. High-quality materials and smooth operation make it an unbeatable value. Im satisfied. Would recommend to anyone seeking to add a touch of farmhouse style to their home.
High quality finish and nice heavy steel underneath. Fits together well at joints which are dovetailed a bit, and is a sharp look, uncomplicated and bears the load very well. Updated a laundry area by adding 5" more in depth to the cubby, that helped us get an updated washer and dryer inside and still able to close the doors. Very satisfied. The new look is well worth the $.
This hardware was intended for a wooden door with instruction to route out a slot in the bottom for the guide to fit into. The slot is necessary because the doors need to be held vertical. Their weight naturally wants to make hang tilted in. This is especially true of the outside door because to be plumb, it is held off of the wall about 4.5" to center. Luckily, the glass doors that I was using came with a roller to mount to the floor. It not only holds them plumb, it rolls with no effort.
I wanted to give some privacy from my front door entranceway. The opening I needed to cover was 66". I bought the 79.2" track. I used two 36" wide doors, and it covers the opening perfect. I read the other reviews about the overlap between the doors so I was concerned that it would be an issue, but it worked out perfect. I used a carpenter. He was able to make the necessary adjustments so that when opened I have a good 36".
Heavy duty & rolls easily. In my case, the incorrect instructions were in the box (i.e. contained instructions for double bypass) so a few minutes of confusion trying to figure out what I actually got. Also, be sure to account for the door overlap if going with single bypass. If opening is XX inches, you'll want the width of the two combined doors to be XX plus the overlap, or else there will be gap.
Definitely should mention that a 72" Rail does not cover a 72" hole. In fact because of the design, there is a significant amount of overlap. I have two 36" doors and a 68 1/2" opening and it doesn't work. For that you would need their other double bypass kit. Unfortunately for me, that kit won't work without many modifications to the trim around the doorway. So it means I need to purchase wider doors. The description should really cover what kinds of openings/door combinations work. After now reading the comments, I'm not the only one apparently who feels this way....
TERRIBLE kit, sorry to say, as would ANY Single Track Double Bypass Kit be... Wish I had realized before purchase and installation, now my Kit is torn off the wall and to be used if/when I ever need a Single Track Single Door set (with the Door 2 Hanger/Rollers thrown out)... Those Door 2 Hangers are TERRIBLE in that they angle out so far away from the track that they cause a horrible and unavoidable lean in Door 2 that causes it to rub terribly on Door 1 and any Track Guide things you might install to try to mitigate the issue. AVOID any Single Track Double Door Bypass Kit in my humble opinion! The Double Track Double Door Bypass Kits are great WITH A HUGE CAVEAT - see my review there of the replacement Kit that I ALSO had problems with, but not totally irreparable problems at least!!! :)
Be thoughtful when ordering the rails and doors. This is a 5 foot opening and a 90” rail. There is an 8” door overlap due to single rail, which works for me, but you may want it all the way open. We installed 36” doors, 33” did not work (too short due to overlap). We used panel doors to match existing interior doors, keep in mind it can look weird due to panels. The rails and doors take up 6” of space from wall. We also had to install a header. Happy with the final results, and glad a professional carpenter was hired to do install.
The hardware causes the doors to overlap a full door panel (5+ inches), so we lost door space. We bought the double door to cover 2 side by side doors, with one side opening and closing regularly (a bathroom). The track and spacers on the bottom of the door panel and on the floor are not smooth and don't work well, always catching. We ended up taking off the outside door until we can make both the doors larger to actually cover the doors. I wish I had understood the over lap for the door width, and I wish it was a smoother open and close. If there is a hitch, the top rollers lift off the rail. I wish I had spent more money on a better kit, and we'll probably replace it with a better system. Our door situation requires barn doors, we don't have room to have a swing out door, and we need to make adjustments to this to make it work for us. The pic with my hand shows the gap into the bathroom. This would be solved if the door was wider.
This is an excellent kit. The center connection doesn’t line up exactly but the rollers are very smooth and sturdy enough to support these 2 massive doors. We have a small bedroom and wanted to do something more effective than the 2 small doors we had. We got this kit, tore out the small wall between the doors, framed it in with 1x’s, and built 2 custom 50” doors out of T&G pine beaded planking from Lowe’s. Finished with 1x4 border and center supports and topped them off with 2 coats of white stain. Waiting on our handles. VERY HAPPY CUSTOMERS
This hardware system has the worst instructions ever. And they have the worst floor track system. They provide a floor track system that requires making a groove in the bottom of the barn doors, which is VERY hard to do with a router machine. You need to buy an expensive router and it is still very difficult. They could simply provide a different hardware that does not require any groove/slit making in the door. And if they didn't want to provide a 2 cent piece of plastic, then they should say there are alternative systems for floor tracks that does not require making a slit or groove in the bottom of the barn doors. My husband cursed the world for two days. It was very painful to install the floor track system. The top rail is fine.
The hardware looks great, however do some serious measuring before purchasing this or the doors.
The product is well made, sturdy and has a clean design. I read the comments before purchasing the product and I am glad I did. I learned from other's comments and tips about both the product and the installation.
This barn door hardware turned out perfect for our pantry and allowed us to get away from the swing out style traditional doors. The instructions were easy to follow and the setup provides a smooth and easy to roll for the doors. We opted for this setup over the double bypass setup to only have one track and bracket setup. Going to add a small caster to the bottom left base of the right hand door in the image where it will space out the two doors. The caster will be hidden but will act to keep the doors from touching each other when sliding. We added a header to ensure that we landed the lag screws into wood vs drywall. Highly recommend!
Contractors installed this for me, and thank god because it looked very complicated! The doors were too heavy to use the wall mount screws and needed a piece of plywood to reinforce. Additionally, we had to buy 2Pc Smooth Double Wheel Bearing Barn Door Pulley Stop Damper Barn Door Track Stop Ground Guide to guide the doors as the wall isn't completely straight so the doors end up snug together the whole bottom half and do not slide nicely. Why we did a barndoor is because it's a 56" opening, and I wanted the doors to be able to both go to the right of the opening. I bought 2 * 38" doors, and calculated 8" that you can't use for track and purchased the 108" track. It worked perfectly.
