Great Garden Beds - But Expensive
The garden beds are pretty good - sturdy and easy to assemble, but it is time consuming and you will have sore fingers from all the bolts and nuts. I gave five stars because the quality looks and feels great. I will be buying a few more in the near future. I love that you can mix and match size/shapes/designs as well. Also, don't recall the instructions saying if there was a specific side the bolt does in, i. e. inside or outside. I chose to have the nuts on the outside for a industrial type look but found the tension rods require the bolt head to be on the outside. The one thing I didn't love is the color. I bought the sunlit oak or basically the yellow one. On the web page it looks bright yellow which I thought would look great against my dark blue house. I couldn't see the woodgrain pattern online-maybe not paying attention and I didn't read that the description said it was a wood grain pattern. Not fond of the color at all but I bought to many to return as well as I waited so long to open and assemble them, thus, I'll have to make due with the color. I think a bright yellow would have been much prettier. It doesn't affect the quality of the bed, however.
Awesomeness
We have a traditional garden. The area we work has good soil but the rest of our yard is red clay. We wanted to expand so I began watching some of my favorite you tubers and we decided on vego. This was the 1st of 2 I ordered. We delayed set up til fall due to life, but set up was last weekend and Wow!! Talk about impressed. We love it so much!!! Well made, designed, constructed, easy set up, we'll be able to grow so much food over the decade's to come. If I can talk my husband into more expansion I'll definitely buy more.
Beautiful & Amazing Quality
I have had two 17- 6 in 1 in Sunlit Oak (yellow) for a couple of weeks. The yellow is vivid and has a slight wood grain design as if it is real "oak." They arrived within a week. They are compact boxes, so I was able to build them quickly. They fit a lot of soil and a lot of plants. I have them configured in the 6ft length size. I did not buy add-ons. The beds look really beautiful. The quality is evident as you build them. They are coated, so rust should not be an issue. I want to add a second color to the set. I have crowded my greens to get the most out of the space. It fits at least a dozen plants and way more if they are smaller plants or if you don't mind slight crowding. I see it as "companion" gardening. I'd recommend it for both quality and aesthetics.
Great, good looking, and seems to be high quality! Assembly is honestly such a pain though! Definitely doesn’t take 40 mins like it says on the box—more like 90 with two people! Highly recommend putting the wall pieces together indoors or somewhere comfortable and very flat and then just doing the final assembly outside where you want to place them. Edges are sharp so wear gloves! It’s probably not worth paying more for more modular options, once you finally put it together you’re unlikely to ever want to take it apart again!
Vego Gardening Beds to the rescue!
When I almost gave up gardening because of cronic back issues, my family gifted me 5 of the tall 32" Vego garden beds with an arch. They knew how much joy and peace gardening brings me. I absolutely LOVE my Vego garden beds! With the addition of more color options, I have begun adding to my collection. I recently purchased my first 17" Vego garden bed in SunOak to fit into an existing planted area for added height and dimension. The new color is so beautiful! Way to go Vego! I also added the solar lights for a beautiful glow in my garden during evenings. I definitely plan to add more Vego garden beds to my property. I can't recommend Vego products enough!
Great Products and Excellent Customer Service
The Vego Garden raised beds were quick and easy to assemble and install in our vegetable garden. We purchased six of the 17” 6-1 modular raised bed kits. We had previously used rough-sawn hemlock to build our beds but it rotted out after just a few years and required continuous work to rebuild and maintain. The Vego Garden beds are the perfect replacement because they will last for many years, and now we can focus all of our attention on gardening.
I did a ton of research on raised beds before choosing this one and I am very happy with it! I was able to put it together by myself and, while it did not take me 25 minutes like the box says (more like 45 or so), it was not difficult at all. The instructions are GREAT, very easy to follow and the images are helpful. It was also nice to have a few extra pieces in case some got lost. I also liked the easy to apply black tubing for the top to prevent getting scratched. The one thing I was not really anticipating was just how much dirt it was going to take to fill this! I'd say I put 10 bags between 1.5-2 cubic ft. each in and there is still more room at the top. Currently using for peppers, carrots and a few smaller tomato varieties, but may also experiment with flowers next year. Love the green color and so far, I feel like this was well worth the money!
Worth the investment
I love my new raised beds! I'm also happy that I don't have to worry about replacing them for a very long time. They also really added to the beauty of my garden. And an added bonus if you are like me and terrified of red and paper wasps, there is no wood to attract them in the spring when they are building nests. I still see them in the garden from time to time, but not constantly like the last couple of years when I had wood beds. This had really helped me feel more comfortable in my own garden. And the only buzzing I hear are the bees on the flowers.
Replacing raised beds with VegoGarden beds
We have a large yard with many raised beds of various lengths, widths and heights that have been added over the years.
Vego planters made our garden hopeful again
After 12 years of nearby tree root incursions, our old ground-based planting beds were hopeless. We ripped them out, put down ag cloth, gravel, and concrete blocks to prop the Vego 17” planters up off the ground; lined the 5 planters first with metal-mesh fabric, then draped the metal mesh with ag fabric before adding raised-bed soil, steer manure, perlite, and worm castings. Seeds went in a week ago. I used clothes pins to clip bird netting over the planters to keep squirrels and birds from feasting on sprouts. Spring rains and a drip system over the side of each planter will keep everything going. We are so hopeful that I may have become a bit annoying by showing off to any visitor who stands still long enough.
The best side by side!
High quality product. I did my research and heard from a friend in landscaping business about the brand. Soon after purchasing Vego, I accidentally bought a competitor brand on Amazon. Thought I’d keep both brands but after assembling Vego and other, the quality of Vego was evident. Other brand looked same until I looked at small flakes of paint chipped away. Seems Vego paint application is superior, thicker. Other brand didn’t have interior support bar either. Vego wins!
Best investment!
My raised beds are great. I have two 4x8’s, two 3.5x5’s, and one 2x5 with the second on its way. They were easy to assemble with a lot of nuts and bolts. I also purchased a couple of arbors and a cover for one of the large beds. I used the cardboard boxes for the bottom layer over gravel. I am growing vegetables, herbs and strawberries. I have had the best time learning to grow vegetables. My son loves to help tend the garden. He prefers strawberries the most. Best gardening investment I have made.
Great garden bed
I bought a whole mess of these in different sizes last spring (2023). They took some time to put together. One or two would be a breeze but more than that and you’re assembling for a while! That was okay though. I got to be quite the expert. Put everything together myself. They made gardening so much more enjoyable. The height (17in) is wonderful on my back. My garden was lush and productive my very first year. There’s nothing bad to say about these beds. I look forward to using them for the next 20 years.
Thank you VEGO!
WE LOVE OUR VEGO BEDS!! We received 4 Vego garden beds from Vego's Giving Back Program for our new school community garden in 2023. I originally purchased a 17" 6 and 1 bed for our existing garden and was hooked on the sturdiness and how aesthetically pleasing they looked in our space. They hold up to the elements in our Zone 6b Missouri garden, and are user friendly for those of all sizes and abilities. Even in the heat of summer (sometimes upward of 105 degrees F) our soil stayed evenly warm and not too hot, keeping all of our produce safe and delicious. In the Spring of 2024, we plan on adding another 12 Vego beds to our space! Thank you again for such an amazing product and for your generosity!
I built it myself and it looks great!
I bought 3 of the 9 in 1 modular raised beds, 17” tall, in the beautiful dark green.
The IKEA of raised beds at Pottery Barn prices
My boyfriend got this as a birthday present for me as I’ve been wanting a raised garden bed for ages. I’ve grown veggies for the past 3 years in makeshift raised beds, so I was so excited to get this as a present. Firstly I will start off by saying that I haven’t planted anything yet- this review is based solely on putting it together and first impressions. In my 30 years on this earth I have put together my fair share of IKEA furniture by myself and pride myself on having realistic expectations going into building something. Before committing to putting this raised garden bed together today, I looked at the instructions online and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was advertised as only taking ‘25 mins’ to put together. Reading through the instructions I thought this would be relatively easy to put together- 2 hours later and an extremely sore back and hands, it was not. Taking the plastic off the pieces (6 side pieces and 4 corners) took over an hour to do. Along with destroying my hands and scratching my wood patio, it was a literal nightmare to get the plastic wrap off the pieces. It also seems extremely unsustainable to have plastic on every piece, along with creating small pieces of plastic because they don’t come off in one big piece. Once I finally got all the plastic off and started putting it together it was relatively easy, however ensuring the holes line up from each side and getting 3 different pieces attached and tightened was an absolute pain and again took around an hour. Even though putting it together took 4x the amount of time I thought it would, I would’ve been happy with the completed project. Once it was completed, I realized there is no bottom to the raised bed (something I would’ve realized had I bought this for myself so I’ll let it slide) and the metal sides/corners are extremely flimsy. This is truly the IKEA of raised garden beds at the Pottery Barn price. I’m just shocked at the price point that this is the quality you get. Since I have a small backyard cement area this is my best option for a raised bed, so it is what it is. I would highly recommend if you get this to have multiple friends help you put it together to save your hands and back. Hoping the actual gardening is a lot more enjoyable than the set up process.
Love these beauties
These beds are incredible. This year we decided to invest in raised beds that would last many many years. After much research, we decide to go with Vego. We have not been disappointed yet. We purchased 10 beds (2 arriving tomorrow) with plans to expand in the coming years. The metal itself is very sturdy and we so appreciate them applying the protective layer over the exterior sides to protect the paint coating. The packaging is efficient without being unnecessarily large or wasteful. And I read that the printed inks used on the boxes are suitable for using at the bottom of your raised bed when filling it up. One more way of limiting waste! The hardware is sturdy and heavy duty. We had a few pieces left over after every assembly which is really nice of Vego also. Isn’t it the worst when you’re putting something together and you run out of hardware? I would absolutely recommend vego to others (and already have). We will be customers for a long time!
Ready for spring planting!
We bought three Vego garden beds, the 17" large u-shaped bed, the 17" 6-way kit for a 3.5' x 5' bed, and the 32" cascading bed. Except for one issue noted below, the design of the beds and the quality of the materials is excellent. The price of these three beds was much lower than some of the wooden beds we had considered before deciding to go with Vego. The variety of available shapes and sizes made it easy for us to maximize the the garden space we have put onto a small area of our yard. It took a little longer to assemble the beds than anticipated, but assembly is very easy. The beds are ready to go now for spring planting!
Good quality
Is made very well but after considering all other factors I think the cost is a little high. It is recommended to fill the container with logs and other materials half way to reduce cost , however not everyone has that much wood. It is not practical for the 17 inch and even less practical for the taller ones. Much vegetable grow in 6 to 8 inches if you do carrots. You hear a lot of youtubers talking about not bending over and that is less work. I say that is nonsense, you need the exercise because it is good for your body to bend, squat, turn and move. When you get older you will appreciate it. If you are that old already, then get you a table style raise bed that is 6 to 8 inches. It would be more comfortable and you can purchase or have one made for wheelchair access.
Perfect for installing on a slight slope
I’ve had two of these raised beds installed for a year now. They’ve held up to all weather, ranging from below zero to nearly 100. We had a winter day where temperatures dropped 35 degrees in 90 minutes and my parsley was flash frozen and my stone raised bed shifted—the Vego raised beds did not move. These were a great addition to my first home. I started out with a yard full of grass and weeds, and less than six months later, I had flowers and left greens and carrots and peppers and eggplants and squash in these beds.
