You will have to feather the edges with them set and use the proper screws not the hardy board screws. Works great and all sides are sloped so inside measurements are less than the outside measurements.

We purchased two of the 8x14 small niches. They arrived on time, well packaged, and in perfect condition. We installed one niche at either end on the back wall of our 5' shower because our stud arrangement did not allow for one large niche to be installed in the center. The niches came with clear instructions and were easy to install. We followed the manufacturer's instructions for installation using silicone, cement board screws, and thinset to feather out the edges of the niche to the cement board. As an additional sound barrier we also applied silicone behind the niches against the drywall as suggested by a professional YouTuber. Once the niches were installed and the thinset had dried, we applied Redguard over the thinset and cement board. Do not apply Redguard directly on the plastic of the niche as it will just peel off after it dries.
