Sturdy and never had an issue even living amongst black bears. I've bought 3 over the past 10 years and they still are in excellent condition. Snow, ice, no issue. I even keep worms in my bins to speed up compost and they make it through every winter.
Going to give this 3 stars because I haven’t actually used it yet. However, I’m dismayed that there’s no bottom - thinking that will likely affect the structure of the unit
Great bin. This is my second one, and the first one is over twenty years old. Made in Canada with 100% recycled plastic. Start composting now as your garden will be better.
This is, without doubt, the sturdiest composter I have ever purchased. It is just as the description says, very heavy duty. I look forward to many, many years of use. I especially like the locking lid feature. So many composters I have had, the lids were easily destroyed by the wind. Also, a shout out to the customer service department. We were missing one small part for the locking mechanism. They were very kind and gracious and got the part to us very promptly.
Too early to determine the effectiveness of this composter.
I've had 2 of these units since spring of last year and they are amazing. They are big, they are very well ventilated, and the access from the top via two swinging doors. The only thing you have to keep in mind while setting it up is to make sure your ground is level. If not, your top doors will have a hard time opening and closing. Amazing product and you can't beat the price.
This is a sturdy, well built composter that is easy to assemble. It also can be easily moved if necessary. Finally it comes with straight forward instructions as to how to start composting and how best to compost and what not to compost.
The best of this type of composter. Holds together well and not flimsy like less expensive versions. I especially like the cover with locking mechanism. I have 3 of these and as long as you give the right amount of carbon vs nitrogen sources, aerate, and keep moist, it works very well for me. May differ by your location.
Terrible design, poor customer service
Terrible product. Raccoons have found their way in through every single opening. Company does not respond to customer service complaints. Right now I have 8 rocks over this thing and the raccoons still get in.
Very sturdy
-Very sturdy/ will not come apart due to pressure from the compost
Durable back yard Compost Bin
I looked at several back yard composters and chose this one because it is made of durable material, likely more resistant to squirrels and racoons than the last one I had. It is easy to put together and the lid seems quite rodent proof. It's still a little light but I gave it a bit of a base surround from scrap lumber and secured it with bungee cords.
Animals having a good time
I'm afraid I have to return this. Animals are burrowing into it and dragging out food scraps and other waste. Too bad.
Excellent quality
I've had the slightly larger one for many years. Essentially the same in all aspects. Shows no signs of wear and will last many more. I find it very easy to use, has a locking lid and two sliding doors in the bottom for removing compost. Doesn't have a bottom, but placing on top of pavers is cheap option. Can't go wrong with this bin. Don't understand why the slightly larger one, only 15% bigger, is 125% more expensive?

So far, so good. It's been less than a month. It's sturdy, and I like the tight fitting lid to keep pests out. I hope there's enough air circulation, and things break down well inside. It's just a matter of time.
This product is wonderful! Arrived within a few days after ordering and packaged with clear instructions. I put this together at the site I chose near my vegetable garden for future use of the compost. The material used is solid, not flimsy, structure. Living in the northeast, I appreciate the well made design. Putting the composted together was easily done, the design of the cover should keep out woodland animals with the strong locking system. Five star, now to see how fast my compost is made!

Probably would give 5 stars once it’s completed it’s cycle of decomposition so I can see how well the compost turns out. But, I’ve barely had it together & in use for a month. It’s very sturdy & was easily assembled. I’m doing all the recommendations to be successful. It’s roomy and has plenty of vent holes for air circulation. Manually adding & turning the contents about every 4 to 5 days and I can see the stuff on the bottom has already turned black & is starting to look like compost. No bad odor emanates from this unit. I think this will end up being 5 stars.
This was exactly what I’d expected. It’s kind of thin and light plastic, but that made it easy to put together and it does the job perfectly. I really like that it has doors on all four sides on the bottom. I gave it four stars because one of the screws broke pretty easily (when my husband picked it up by the lid after we’d assembled it, and the bottom part fell to the floor), and also because the lid doesn’t open in a way that makes it super easy to dump your compost in. Maybe I’m missing something?? There are two halves to the lid and it looks like you could open it on just one half, but it’s like the lid is upside down. Maybe it’s user error but there weren’t any instructions on how to open the thing!

This is my second one, as the first one (purchased a couple of years ago) was so satisfactory, and I needed a second one. Overall assembly is easy. Just make sure you put the locking knobs on in the right direction and not upside down (as I did, but is easily correctable). Do read carefully about putting stuff in to compost. Anything will compost over time. However, the more you deviate from the suggestions in the paper that comes with the composter, the longer it takes.

Item arrived in a thin rectangular box that made it appear small. All parts were present and accounted for and assembly was simple and straight forward. I was disappointed to see the there were no ventilation holes on the sides of the unit. It appeared in the pictures online that the small rectangular protrusions on the sides had vent holes on the undersides, but no. So I got out my cordless drill and put in about six per protrusion which added up to 24 per side, or 96 total. The lid fits well and is secure with the two locking levers. The sizing on compost bins is all over the park so I thought that whatever '28 gallons' meant would result in a larger unit. No worries as this will fit the bill. (only two person household) As advertised the wall thickness is stout and unit should last quite awhile. It's winter so I will have to wait to see how well this unit composts.
Generally Acceptable
Mine lasted about six years before the corner attachment points broke-probably material degrades at this rate in high desert sun at 7,100 feet. I guess thats acceptable for the lower relative price. Its easy to use, easy to turn contents because of the large opening, easy to access the processed compost at the bottom through sliding doors, easily holds a lot of waste, has a lot of aeration holes on sides and top, has weap holes on top for free rain, has two locking handles on top so you can basically unlock one handle and use the other handle to swing/hold the lid to the side without fully removing the lid. That feature also allows one to alternate where to dump new contents. I thought I would next buy one of those rotating bins but after researching these again, I believe this Algreen design is better in many ways, even without a bottom! Yeah, periodically field mice, lizards, salamanders, toads, and probably bull snakes and the like burrow under, but they churn the waste and we've never encountered any material problems with them. I think they actually contribute to composting so we don't really care if they get into the pile. We've gotten LOTS of compost out of this product with minimum intervention on our part (churning, adding dirt). We get high winds and the bin never fell over either and isn't staked in any way. If one overloads the bin without regularly removing the compost it does tax the materials' capacity to hold together as well as open and close the bottom doors as they bulge and curve.
