The Alaterre Furniture 30 inch Newport Light Amber Bar Stools come packed in sturdy, well-padded, heavy cardboard boxes...one stool per box. Each box opens to reveal one pre-assembled rush seat and wood bracing, the four stool legs, pre-attached in pairs, the hardware, and one perfectly sized hex wrench to put it all together. It took about 45 minutes for me to get the parts aligned and tightened together. Each stool leg has a nylon levelling peg to adjust for uneven flooring. The tightly woven natural seagrass seat is comfortable and attractive. I’ll use the stools at my 36 inch tall, 35-1/2 inch round top table to permit overreach of the complete table surface. The 30 inch height of the Newport Stools is somewhat tall for sitting to enjoy a meal at the small, round-topped, 36 inch high table. However, it’s a great perch for reading blueprints, or playing cards and board games with family and friends. The foot rail on one side of the stool has a steel protective covering with abrasive surface to keep my boots from slipping off (or wearing down the rail). Watching TV shows and movies from the back of the room from atop these stools allows a good view over the bobbing heads and waving arms of the audience in front.

The only good thing about these stools are the rush seats that give them a rustic appeal. The rest of the materials - the wooden legs and bars - are very substandard and not properly aligned. The instructions are confusing and it is difficult to figure out where the screws marked F and G should be placed. After spending a lot of time I did place them in the correct slots but only for one of the two stools. The second stool legs did not fit into the frame and even after hammering them into the frame stuck out from one side - see picture. Very disappointing and poor craftsmanship.
