Lump charcoal works best
We tried briquette charcoal and it burned too fast, uneven and couldn’t hold temp for a long cook that you need for pork and brisket. We switched to the XL lump charcoal and it is so much more efficient in a ceramic grill like the kamado Joe.
Nice Hardwood Charcoal !
Love them chunks of carbonized wood! Long burn life when under vent control with my Kamado Joe. Consistent heat source that can go up to 12 hours on a load when cooking several large pork shoulders to 400 degrees internal temp -- makes that pulled pork just fall apart when done.
Garbage
This is not XL lump charcoal. This is garbage that is smaller than large briquettes. You are better off buying Kingsford than this trash. I honestly can’t believe HD sells this for this price. Skip it.
Best Lump for Low & Slow
I had a long cook that went overnight. I was impressed with this lump because the pieces were large and the bag had a high yield. One fill and I was good for a 16 hour cook. It did the job and I was very impressed.
Best Charcoal on the market
This is by far the best charcoal on the market. Very little small pieces in the bag, give you the best flavor for your food and the best part is it burns clean. I used royal oak for the longest time thinking it was the best. Once I switched to big block I'll never go back!
This stuff is the best
I have used all brands of lump charcoal and the quality of Kamado Joe Big Block is outstanding. It lights fast, burns hot and clean and I am always surprised how much is left over after a cook. This lump checks all the boxes for me.
Excellent but I wouldn’t say it’s the best value
It’s amazing stuff. But I can get B and B for much cheaper and it performs much the same as this does. Still great charcoal with big chunks, just not the best value available.
Right Charcoal my Jr
Its large and you might be surprised to hear that it works well in the junior, but other brands cheap lump charcoal usually is crushed to tiny piece that choak to air flow in my Jr. . Big block burns hot and only a few pieces at a time is all I need without creating an airflow problem.
Only Charcoal I recommend
Fogo pops a lot
Great value/great product
I used to swear by another major brand until I tried a bag of these ...now I don't want to use anything else. The chunks are consistently large and there is much less wasted tiny pieces than most brands. And the flavor is the biggest reason to try a bag of this charcoal. They definitely nail it there. I think they've checked all the boxes and once you try a bag you'll forget all about your other favorite brands and change over to these too.
