It works well. I wanted a plastic grater because I'm scared of the metal ones. This one gets the work done but I don't like that the food gets stuck in it and you have to beat it out if it.

Handy but shavings can wedge between ribs

Easier to hold and use then most graters/zesters. The shavings are also easier to collect and use. However when grating garlic, a fair amount ends up wedged in between the ribs. I found a small brush the best way to collect these shavings. No hassle clean-up; just rinse, light scrub with a dish brush, and air dry.

I thought that the hole went through but they don't. It's more like a tray that holds the ginger or Garlic. It's just a pain to clean. I have a little brush to clean it with. But it's brilliant at doing ginger even with the skin on. Just watch you don't grate your fingers.
