Great file cabinet

I wanted to get a strong file cabinet. After visiting several stores and seeing some very lightweight metal file cabinets, I saw this online. Hoping for the best, I ordered it. It arrived on time. It had no damage. It worked excellently. The price was somewhat higher than the others but it's worth every penny, I'm glad I picked this one.

Cabinet lock is broken

We love the cabinet in general, but it's brand new and the lock is broken. We were able to load files in it on the first day, but now the lock keeps catching on the second drawer and we can't get into the top drawer. We are requesting a replacement. Thank you.

For Home - Commercial Version

After using a 2 drawerr for over 20 years it was time to replace it with another solid reliable unit without breaking the bank. This model is everything I had hoped it would be. Strong, yet easy to open/close! Able to configure it many different ways and after ensuring it was balanced (which it was) it was ready to use.

Not good

The bottom drawer doesn’t open. It has scratches inside the drawers. I am completely dissatisfied with this purchase.

Perfect size

Good quality and easy open drawers. Would have gotten a higher rating except one came with a dented back. Since it did not interfere with the opening of drawers, we kept it.

2 drawer lateral file cabinet

The cabinet is fine, but the delivery was not. We had been assured that the Staples staff would bring it into our apartment in a retirement community. Imagine our surprise to find the box sitting unattended on our porch - not safe for 'old folks'.

As described

This file cabinet is exactly as described on the website. it will accepts both legal and letter sized pain files and can be locked. It is heavy and bulky, so make sure you have assistance once is delivered to move it into your house and the designated room. Staples does not do door door delivery as far as I know.

Decent quality for the price but arrived damaged

This is a very decent and nice looking 2 drawer file cabinet. Price is very reasonable for level of construction, and it is assembled in the U.S. Ordered online and delivery took a day more than indicated, but was shipment arrived in two days. The item was well packaged and there were no obvious signs of damage. Unfortunately, upon unpacking I noticed a sizable dent and crease in the back upper right corner, and another crease on the right edge between the two drawers which resulted in a sizable gap. It looks like either at the warehouse or somewhere during shipment it might have been dropped on the top corner. The drawers did not open smoothly and the lock did not work. I discovered the drawer lock mechanism was installed upside down. I removed the drawers, reinstalled the latch, pounded out the dents and took out the creases using bar clamps. The drawers now open smoothly as they should, and the unit functions properly. Although not mentioned in the description or in the small provided owner’s manual, there are concrete blocks glued on the inside bottom of the unit behind the drawers which probably help the unit from tipping over. The glue didn’t hold during shipment and the blocks were loose inside the case. They did scratch up the inside of the cabinet, but not in a way that would be seen if you open the drawers. I figured it would be a hassle to return the file cabinet so I will keep it since it works fine for my needs. This is described as a commercial quality unit. It’s certainly adequate for home use and light duty office use, but not sure how well it would stand up to a heavy use office environment. The cabinet is durable metal, but the drawers are kind of thin. Overall, a decent cabinet for the price, but if buying again I would try to get from a local store rather than online.

Solid product

This file cabinet is as sturdy and functional as any you would find in an office environment. I got it in black and it looks really nice. I use it as a printer stand and, of course, a filing cabinet.

Solid, High Quality, Great Delivery

I kept looking at the HON Series cabinets and decided to choose the Staples Brand, and boy I am very happy that I did! It is solid and arrived in great condition, it was just what I was looking for in my home office. I highly recommend that you give this a try before spending unnecessary money on the overpriced versions. Thank you Stples for a great experience!

2 File Lateral

Came as expected. No set up required outside of simple file holder bar to insert. Both drawers are full now and it opens easily. Sometimes the top drawer needs extra help staying closed.

Staples brand lateral file cabinet

First, the delivery person was a gem. Super nice and brought it right to where I was going to place it. All I had to do was unpack it. Item came in great condition. No dents! No scratches! Had to call customer service. Could not find keys! Sadly I do not know her name. She was an absolute doll and was easy to understand. I found the keys lol !Thank you Staples!! Great job!

NOT EASY TO OPEN

I would have expected, at this price point, that I would easily be able to open these file cabinets. They jam on the right side, and you have to play musical drawers to open them. Literally, open the bottom drawer a few inches to get the third drawer to open but then close the top drawer to get the bottom drawer to open....

Quality Cabinet

We were looking for a quality pre assembled lateral file cabinet. Our delivery arrived in perfect shape since it was packed very well. The cabinet is very robust yet a good looking piece of office furniture. Needless to say, this is an excellent product especially considering the weight it needs to bear.

Lateral file

The picture showed that I could put the files in two rows from front to back. That isn't the case. The files must go from side to side. If there is additional supports that could be used I would like to know that.

Worth The Extra Cost

I had an old file cabinet I had purchased used and the drawers would not pull out without much effort. I looked at ordering a lower cost item. I want something that would open easily and with very little assembly. I opted for this unit and glad I did. Take out of the box and it was ready to go. Heavy-duty unit! Gald I made the purchase.

The cabinet will work for what I need but the quality is not what I would expect for the price!

It is described as a locking 2 drawer lateral file. The drawer glides work very well but I tried the lock before transferring my files into this cabinet and yes the drawers did lock. However when I tried to unlock the drawers, only the lower drawer would unlock. It took multiple attempts at trying to adjust the top drawer to get it to clear the locking mechanism. I finally got the upper drawer open but will not be using the lock on this cabinet again. If you really need a locking file then I would not recommend this unit.

Sturdy

This is a nice file cabinet. The drawers roll out smoothly and it feels heavy duty. My only complaint is that the top drawer doesn't open far enough, so EVERY time I put something in or take it out, I must bend the folder. It's annoying enough to drop the rating down to only 3 stars. If it would just open another inch, it would solve the problem. Bottom drawer, on the other hand, opens farther than it needs to, which is great.

I found this file cabinet to be relatively lightly made; drawers were balky to open and close even with nothing in them. Did not come equipped with rails to allow front to back letter filing with hanging folders; although Staples sells aftermarket setups they don't work with existing rails and were clumsy to assemble. A private brand also sold at Staples sold a substantially stronger unit and a different vendor also knew how to easily enable this type of filing.

This is particle board! Not worth the price.

For the price that you are paying for this cabinet, it should be made out of something better than particle board! I purchased this cabinet and the bottom fell out of it after only two years. I rarely used the cabinet and didn't have much in the bottom drawer. The screws came out when I opened it one day and completely shredded the particle board...making it irreparable!
