WiFire & Super Smoke

Love it!! However I'm coming up on needing to replace my 2018 model. When are you going to add wifire and super smoke to this little beauty?

Issues on Day 3

Received the unit on October 17, 2024. Seasoned it that weekend. Cooked a steak on it last week. A little learning curve from my Timberline XL. Tried to use it last night and auger motor went bad. Spent a couple of hours diagnosing it this morning, another hour with support and they are sending me a new motor next week. Obviously the Ranger has issues.

Worth it, great portable smoker

I bought this several months ago and it working great. It’s not a full size smoker so don’t expect the same controls but it does a great job for what it is. I take this to Elk camp to all my friends gathering and smoke a variety of things with excellent results. Because it’s so small it does tend to get hotter than the set temp, this is an easy solve if you are monitoring with a MEATER prop. I’ll vent off a little heat and drop the temp on the controls down. Finding that sweet spot for your target temp of 225 is right about 215 depending on outside temperatures. Also make sure to clean your temp sensor. Overall I would say it come close to replacing a full size unit, but it won’t get you the same cooking space. Worth the money in my opinion if you want a portable smoker

Little expensive but worth it

I use it weekly and it was worth the price. I have no use for a BBQ anymore. It’s built really well and I haven’t had any issues.

Best little smoker grill for tailgate grilling and on the go. I work in the pipeline industry, and this little grill is great for working in the middle of nowhere. I run it off the plug in the bed of my truck. I can fit 6 1/2 pound burgers for me and my crew.

Great for full time RVing

We Travel full time in an RV. I have been using the Ranger for about 4 years now. I really love it. It does great steaks, burgers and ribs. It is very versatile I have even made pizza on it. We set it on a picnic table at our campsites and it is easy for cooking outside.

Gen 2?

Love mine and have for years! Would love for them to come out with a second generation that incorporates all of the upgrades and updates fixing prior issues and complaints.

This grill needs a redesign

I cannot get this grill to maintain temperature. If it's windy outside, forget using it.

Love my ranger!

At first I thought the would be too small and was a little pricey. But it works perfect for just two of us. It is a great addition for camping or just not pulling the big grill out. haven't used the griddle as of yet. It is worth investigating if looking for a small pellet grill.

Worked for six months now inconsistent and unsafe

For the first six months worked as expected. Now will not maintain a consistent safe temperature. Fire in the fire pot is unsafe and goes as high as the temperature reading will go. I have contacted support and this issue has not been resolved and the smoker is not safe to use. I have done all of the things that support has sent which can all be found online. I had given up because none of supports suggestions were working. I tried all suggestions again today and the Ranger is still just a fire hazard. The smoker is cleaned prior to each use. And I only use Traeger pellets. It is a complete waste of $500. Maybe the other smokers are better but I would not recommend this specific product to anyone. The risk of fire and potential damage is too high. Product is under warranty and should be replaced.

Perfect grill for camping & small spaces at home!

I purchased this grill for a long weekend in a cabin where we would be grilling all of our food. I cook a lot at home, but am not very comfortable with grilling. I was determined to learn how to use this grill and was amazed at how simple it was! The pellets are super convenient and you just set the temperature and it does its thing. The size is ideal for traveling and portability, but I also keep it set-up at home as my regular grill. I've had it for a few months now and it is so versatile!

Best portable smoker

I purchased my Traeger Ranger in November of 2023 at Bass Pro Shops. I compared it to some of the other portable smokers before buying, but this ended up being more what I was looking for. Today is the day I’m deciding to review it because I can now say I am proficient in using it, as well as have done many, many cooks on it. To date, I have smoked two pork shoulders, eight racks of baby back ribs, four turkeys, sausages, one prime rib, whole chickens, wings, jalapeño poppers, hot dogs, burgers, bacon, queso and, other dips. It resides in the back of my truck full time to use for over-landing, camping, cross-country road trips, and bringing to events in which there is no smoker. I’m very happy with the results i’m able to achieve while using it. Not to mention, many happy meals shared with my family and friends. If you are thinking about buying one, let this be your sign, as it is well worth the higher price tag as compared to some other brands. Thank you, Traeger for another excellent product.

Used it twice. Wires shorted out after 3 hour of smoking when you open the lid. Not even more than a Centimeter( (I measured). Caused a sizeable backfire. I’ve used Traeger for 6 years. First time I’ve ever had an issue. And I’m still waiting to get a fix for it.

Learning

This grill, as most, has a learning curve. I have had it for 3 weeks and have managed to understand temperature in it. As yet, I am trying to understand cooking times as I seem to have most things I cook are ready to remove and rest earlier than expected. I have been extremely satisfied and simply fault myself for the less than perfect results I have had. Of 6 entrees I have tried, only one was entirely unsuccessful.

This grill is perfect for traveling. Used it at the beach, it was awesome to grill and watch the waves. Works great and the griddle is a great added bonus!

Good when it works, but prepare yourself for HEr errors

I bought into thinking Traeger's were of good quality. I've had a Ranger for about a year and now getting HEr errors that basically make the grill useless. Called Traeger customer service and they are sending a new RTD sensor, but that won't help you when you have food prepped and a house full of people. SUPER disappointed and a little embarrassed in front of company. If only Traeger had a buy back program, I would look harder at the Green Egg. Buyer beware!

It will not keep the temperature and we took it for service was told that this model is for quick cook items such as hot dogs or hamburgers

Camping & Home Perfection

I can't recommend Traeger Ranger highly enough. I've been looking to find something a little more flexible than a small bbq for cooking on whilst away in the campervan. The ranger ticked the boxes as it has a grill for your more standard bbq dinners, but also works closer to an oven for dishes like lasagne, tray bakes and jacket potatoes... it does all of this with ease and a relaxed, hands off stress free way. I also love the flat plate, which we used to make pancakes, bacon and fried eggs for breakfast. So versatile, and easy. Also worth a mention is the temperature probe which guarantees safely cooked meat. As it only draws a very low amperage when plugged in it barely affected the campers battery even when I did an 8hr brisket.
