The title reads "solid wood" and this shelf feels very far from that. We purchased and assembled this for my daughter's room and I don't feel comfortable leaving it in there. It's extremely wobbly and has already started to crack on the second highest shelf. wI'm returning this.

Nightmare to assemble

Instructions state 2 people needed to assemble. You need more than 2 people. It was like putting a frame around a house of cards. The dividers just lay in place while you try to attach the sides and top. The dividers were constantly falling over. Each time it fell the finish got scratched. It took us about 8 hours to assemble. We were so frustrated many thoughts were about just throwing it out the door. We couldn't follow the instructions any longer we had assemble the sides and top and force the dividers in place. This caused more scratches and a couple of broken cam lock pins. It is put together. A little on the weak side with the cam locks missing. The cube space is smaller than I expected. I already had a bookshelf like this one from a different company, I wanted a new one in the darker color. The brown color is pretty. But not worth it.

If you follow the instructions this is easy to put together, it just takes a little time. We love this bookcase and it fits perfect in our living room. It is painted really nice and the finish on it makes the bookcase look beautiful. Packaged really great also, so all pieces arrived intact.

It is fitted in the center pieces by compression, so if you have two people it makes it easier. It is a great deal because there isn't any particle board or MDF. It does seem to be a softer wood the will scuff easier but that is what brown crayons are for. For the price, you will not get another one that is real wood. If you expecting expert craftsmanship for a little over 200, try looking for used. You may luck out.

Strong Chemical Odor

We purchased this bookcase for our grandson's room. When we opened the box, there was a very strong chemical odor. We put the box in the garage for a week to let it air out. It still had a chemical smell, but we assembled it and put it in his room with the windows open. It has now been 6 months and while the odor is not as strong, it is still giving off fumes. We contacted SimpliHome and found out that the only remedy would be to disassemble and return the bookcase for a replacement. The box is long gone so, even if we wanted to disassemble it, we would need an appropriate box and padding to send it back and there is no guarantee that the replacement wouldn't have the same problem. It is very disappointing since we loved the style of the bookcase.

Great for LP's

Easy to put together, could sway to left or right a bit due to construction. Looks great and serves the purpose in a corner holding LP's.

Not Recommended

Putting the bookcase together was a nightmare. Some of the pre-drilled holes were not exactly where they needed to be, and some of the vertical divider boards were not completely flat. The assembled bookcase looks fine and is very sturdy, but the journey to get to there was totally aggravating. The manufacturer needs to up their quality control game!

Almost perfect

Great solid piece of furniture. Would have given it 5 stars except one leg was slightly uneven so I had to place a tap underfoot to keep it from wobbling. Otherwise looks good and feels sturdy. Moderately easy to assemble. Best to assemble with another person.

Great looking unit

I'm impressed with this solid wood unit. It takes some preplanning before assembling. I had difficulty in step 2 & 3 to keep pieces together. So I turned it on its back. Screwed in the all cam lock pins to side pieces B. Make sure pins are straight, otherwise, it will not fit the pre-drilled holes. Start at the bottom of B to the unit one side, then fit the other side on lock in cams. After step 4, the unit was stood up as in step 5. Screwed in the all cam lock pins to top pieces A. Following these steps help me assemble without extra help. It works better to put face down to install back. The back pieces have pre-drilled holes but the assemble unit did not. I played on panels & drilled ⅛" holes in unit and added only the 2 outer panels. Anyone who buys will enjoy the finished produce. Much better than MDF.

its a nice piece of furniture not just storage

I bought it to hold a large vinyl record collection. It works beautifully. Lovely solid piece of furniture which will endure all the weight

Nice shelves

I bought two of these back in the day and really appreciate the storage they provide. I bought 5 more I liked them so much. Shipping was within 1 week and nothing was damaged. Assembled takes approximately 45 per unit.

Nice looking...instructions dont make sense... So i screwed up at first. The veneer is thin so it split easily. other than that its great! I suggest putting up one if the sides as u assemble. It will give u stability. Put in the cams into the side wall and insert the shelves as u build up. Happy overall. But veneer is cheap so be careful and build with 2 pple.

Great unit for the price

I got this at $44 so can't complain about price. I too broke a fastener. Also, some holes weren't completely drilled through so I had to stop mid-assembly several times to drill through (after several failed attempts to push really hard).

stay away from this shelving unit

I've put a few cabinets with this construction together before, but this one just ended my desire to purchase any more of this stuff. The instructions are the usual: no words, just pictures; and these ones are too small to ascertain what is a dowel and what is cam pin. That of course becomes obvious when you look at the holes drilled in the boards. But if this is your first time it would be better to have decent drawings. There could also be stickers numbering the boards and then references to those in the instructions, but that is not what the manufacturer did. But the instruction issue is a pretty common occurrence.

Cheap cams and dents

Bad assembly instructions, strange white-ish film emanating from the knots in the wood. Hours to put together and too much trouble to take back to the store so I will put up with the barely noticeable dents and the one broken cam (learned after the first one not to tighten the rest too much). The only good thing about this product is the price.
