Other companies have similar designs in ‘engineered wood’, yet no bars around to hold in books. I can see the wood grain.

Can't recommend this unit. Material quality is poor and the design is so bad that after several hours I gave up trying to assemble and returned both units.

Poor Quality

I bought two of these as they appeared to be higher quality and better construction. However, that was not the case. As soon as we began assembling the shelf, we noticed a cracked board. Then, when we started putting the wooden dowels in and the metal pieces that hold them in, three out of the 1st five we used completely broke in half. We proceeded to box the shelf back up and returned both to the store.

Very nice and easy to assemble!

I really am surprised by how nice this bookcase is, especially for the price ($193). It is super well packaged with firm edge tracks. The pieces of wood and all hardware are clearly marked. They even provide a bag with a bunch of spare hardware! It is super easy to assemble. The holes for the brackets and back wood slats are so tiny/superficial that I didn't even notice them for a while. The wood is soft enough that screwing in with a phillips screwdriver is possible but it was easier and faster with a couple quick hits of the drill. In all, it is a nice wood and veneer, very stable and solid. Only negative is that it's virtually impossible to get the sticker off 1 slat, so we installed it at the bottom in the back. Great buy!

Cheap and falling apart! The metal bracket just kept breaking. Wood is good quality put poor quality parts makes it unsteady and only good for firewood

Great bookcase.

Assembly was straightforward. One thing that is not visible in the images are several small L brackets on the front of every other shelf, I presume to add support since they're on the front. They aren't super noticeable but I hadn't seen them in the photos and wasn't expecting them. That said I really appreciate the different heights of the shelves allowing for a number of different size objects/books to be placed on it.

It's solid wood

Had higher expectations for this piece considering the price.. corners where the shelf meets the uprights do not fit flush. Two large chips came up and had to be repaired with wood glue.. it serves its purpose, but not happy.

Pretty But Cheap Wood

I really like the 2 of the 4 that arrived undamaged. I hope they last over time as wood is soft. Not as heavy duty as I thought they would be per description. The 2 smaller folding shelves from Target they were replacing that were half the size weighed more than these fully assembled.

Excellent piece of solid wood furniture for the price! Assembly was not too difficult. Each piece was carefully wrapped. We were impressed to find that the hardware bag, which was wrapped in cardboard, had a long red ribbon attached to it that read "HARDWARE" (similar to yellow "caution" tape) so it did not get lost in the packaging. Additionally, we were pleased to find a packet labeled "extra hardware". The package also contained an anti-tip wall kit which is important since we have young children. Cons: There was a strong odor of varnish for a few days after assembly. A large sticker was placed on the back of one of support bars (it also wrapped around the bar slightly) which could not be easily removed and caused a mess. We strategically placed that support bar at the bottom where it would not be seen. There are also some small stickers on the underside of the shelf to indicate the "front" during assembly. These stickers left a mess when we tried to remove them as well. Less

Terrible response

The bookshelf is okay. I bought two of them to reorganize my office. One came damaged. It took multiple emails and complaints to finally (over three weeks) get a replacement piece. I will never buy from SimpliHome again.

Really nice

Purchased this bookcase for my work office space, and I've received so many compliments on it. It looks like a high-end, expensive piece of furniture for sure. It was super well packed and easy to put together. I love this thing!

Perfect bookshelf. We bought these to replace a broken cabinet that held dishes, and have glasses on the top shelves and baskets for the lower shelves to hold the dishes. We easily attached them to the wall and shimmed the bottom so they don’t wobble. We also bought another shelf for books, and one as an office catch all. Looks great to have all matching shelf’s, and spent much less than I would have on one china cabinet.
