Definitely not plug and play for a “slip on”description. Wanted to replace a Kohler spout but was unable to find the brand name replacement. This has a lighter and thinner build. Read the directions included inside and installation was easy. Works as expected so far with one day of use.

Installed and it leaked. Water was leaking out at the threading at the front of the spout. Tried it with plumber’s tape and it still leaked. Also very lightweight. Returned it and bought a sturdier and more expensive product that didn’t leak.

Do not buy! Wood floor damage due to leak.

Poor quality of the tub spout caused a leak and water was getting inside the wall due to faulty diverter. I should have checked reviews and noticed that multiple other customers have experienced a similar issue. I spoke to a Home Depot manager and he said that they are not responsible. To contact manufacturer. Danco, the manufacturer, has written in their warranty that they are not responsible for damages. Lack of confidence in your products Danco?!? HD, please drop this vendor.

If you're already stuck with this thing here is how you can make it work

The plastic adapter comes preassembled, there is a larger plastic piece, an o-ring, and a smaller plastic piece. Disassemble it and find the small round 1/4" divot on larger piece of the plastic adapter where the screw goes, drill it out with a 1/4" drill bit so the screw can fit through it. Now put some white lithium grease over the pipe and slide on the smaller plastic piece and the o-ring, the larger plastic piece can now be threaded onto the smaller piece like normal. They can be installed farther out on the pipe and will slide into place later. This will make it possible to grab the smaller plastic piece with pliers to keep it from turning. When tightening the 2 pieces of the plastic adapter together align the drilled hole in the larger part with the slot in the smaller part (might be a little difficult). Once they are tightened and you can see straight through the hole to the pipe slide the round metal collar over the plastic adapter and install the screw into the hole but not all the way against the pipe yet. Now the entire thing can be slid into place (thanks to the lithium grease) and the screw can actually be tightened against the pipe instead of whatever they were trying to do. Now just add some teflon tape to the pipe threads and screw the spout on. This worked for me hopefully it helps someone.

Installation Nightmare

It is next to impossible to install the spout "correctly" to an un-threaded copper supply line. They provide a plastic ring which slides over the copper line and the ring has a groove cut into it which extends 1/3 along the circumference. This first ring is threaded and another plastic piece screws onto it. Problem #1 is that the first ring doesn't grip the copper line and spins as you attempt screwing the second piece to the first. Basically, getting a solid connection and compressing the O-ring between the two plastic pieces can be difficult. Problem #2 is that there is a metal ring with a metal screw that slides over the 2nd plastic piece. The metal screw is supposed screw through a hole in the 2nd plastic piece and that hole is supposed to aligned with the groove on the 1st plastic ring. Unfortunately, the hole on the 2nd piece and groove on the 1st will not align. Even if you somehow get the screw through the hole and into the groove, the assembly will still not be secure to the copper line since there is nothing connecting the 1st ring to the copper. As such, the spout assembly will easily move/slide on the copper line.

The spout looked outstanding, unfortunately it really was outstanding. Our tub has the standard 4" nipple from the wall, exactly as shown in the instructions, however the spout had a gap of over 1/4" no matter how tight you tried to get it threaded on. Actually afraid I was going to break the diverter valve inside the wall. Took it out to the shop and tried cleaning up the threads by threading a nipple held in the vise as far as possible. Still no luck. Returned it to the store.

Unfortunately this diverter was the only option to purchase in brushed nickel. While measurements were exactly the same as the Moen diverter I was trying to replace, the thread pitch was apparently incorrect and would not allow the diverter to be threaded sufficiently onto the existing plumbing in my tub. Home Depot willingly allowed me to return it. I used vinegar to remove the hard water build up on the diverter that was causing me problems and reinstalled the existing diverter.

The product is very decent. The only concern is that set screw at the bottom. I wish it was an allen wrench screw instead of a phillips head screw. The location of this screw makes it impossible for a normal length phillips head screw driver to fit in. You either have to use a very short screw driver, or a special right angled screw driver. I ended up using the allen wrench screw from the old unit. Other than this issue, the product is very good.

I purchased (but had to return) two of these Danco Tub Spouts for my two bathrooms. I liked the clean look of the design and the fact that they were universal. However, when I removed the existing fitting from the wall, I was left with a copper pipe that would only fit into the first inch of the white plastic sleeve inside the spout. There is a black washer inside the sleeve that prevented me from mounting the sleeve entirely on the copper pipe. I had to return both spouts and purchase a more expensive Moen tub spout which easily accepted the protruding pipe.

The diverter and spout are probably fine. The universal mounting system is not adequate. I watched the video before I installed it. It became apparent that there is no way to compress the O-ring and align the the machine screw with the slot on the adapter. I tried starting the threads in 4 different positions around the adapter. Every time the slot was 180 degrees out of phase with the screw. I repeated this attempt 3 time before deciding to try to tightening the screw at the snuggest point still in phase with the slot. This resulted in a massive leak at the o-ring when the diverter valve is closed. I regret buying this product. I wasted a lot of time trying to make it work, and wasted plenty of time cleaning up the water.

Purchased this as the only one that local store had in stock that looked closed enough to work. I had several problems. Despite the directions saying it would fit a 3" copper stub, it did not slide on far enough to fit flush with the wall. Next, this design uses a Philips head screw for securing. Following instructions, the screw will punch through a dimple in the plastic, but, even after doing that, the screw is hard to tighten. Other manufacturers use internal hex screws for securing. I not only had difficulty with aligning the Philips head screw, but, due to the close proximity to the wall and tub, trying to get a screw driver positioned to tighten is something the designers apparently did not take into consideration. Fortunately, I found a replacement that is almost identical, and since is was pre-assembled, all it took was sliding it on and tightening it with a supplied Allen wrench. Bingo!

I have been working on installing this tub spout for 3 hours, installing, taking it apart, re-installing, then taking it apart again. The problem is when screwing the spout onto the "slip pipe" (not sure what it's called).

This is not my first rodeo, and I did not give up easily. I loved the look and wanted to change over to brushed nickel. Unfortunately, this was hard to assemble, and could not be made not to leak. The little black piece is not useful and never explained. I eventually had to have a plumber come and repair the damaged copper spout from trying to get this on tight enough. And I had to stick with a chrome, because getting a true Moen part instead of this fake "universal" part meant it would have had to be ordered and I could not wait for that. So I got a true Moen spout, and it screwed right on, no problems. Significantly heavier metal. The old one lasted 40 years. Maybe the new one will too.

Pitch the instructions

It quickly became obvious that the person who wrote the instruction's first language is not English. Look at the diagram to see how it goes together, and then put the instructions aside. The slide extension nipple does not have a hole. It has a dimple. You need to carefully drill it out, starting with a small pilot hole, and then drill it completely out, so you can see the slot in adapter A. The hole needs to be drilled big enough for the screw E to go through it without effort. Be careful when drilling not to punch through, and mess up the threads on the opposite side of the inner threads. Push the extension tube up against the tub wall, slide adapter A on, and tighten it up, where you can still see the slot through your drilled hole. Then put slider retainer ring D on. Run the screw down, almost all the way, until you hit the copper pipe. It has to be tight, or water pressure is going to blow it off. Works fine this way. A lot of hassle to figure that out.

Terrible diverter tub spout, but did you have a choice?

I wanted to replace an aging tub spout with diverter and this is pretty much all Home Depot carries in the category (DANCO brand, unless you want to spedn $100+ on a new spout/shower/handle set). The old one was a slip-on spout, but this is where this product fails miserably. LISTEN to the other reviews. No matter how hard you try (I spent half a day before giving up), all it does is shoot water back up the nipple adapter. This means water damage/flooding in your shower wall.
