No matter how much I bend it up, I’m unable to keep a sponge securely on the other side

Discoloured sink caddy
I bought the Umbra sink caddy about a year ago. Initially I thought it was a great product but to my dismay, it turned out to be the opposite! The caddy has discoloured so much that I find it difficult to clean the black stains which has covered almost the entire caddy. In addition, the sponge and steel wool dropped out quite easily.
