Very impressed with it.

Definitely takes some time to put together but I had no issues doing it. Read the instructions and double check the position of the piece as you work on it. All pieces went together very smoothly. Everything was there and it is packaged very well. Look really nice and the quality is good for the price paid.

Beautiful desk, but a lot of work

This is not a desk for the faint of heart! I was quite dismayed when I unpacked the box containing the desk: it contained a multitude of pieces that would have been impossible to repack, had I decided to return it. So I went ahead with the assembly, doggedly following the instructions which were actually quite good. It took me 16.7 hours over 8 days to assemble the desk. An extra set of hands is definitely needed when it's time to assemble the larger pieces. Here are some problems I encountered. At step 2, to affix the large rail to the panel, use the top diagram illustrating the placement of the screws; the screw placement illustrated in the bottom diagram is incorrect. Placement for the dowels is not always clear (more than 1 hole that fits may be present; however, it's not a big problem because the dowels can be switched hole at a later time. The pilot holes for the screws are often much tighter than they should be; it helps to use a short handle screw driver for the last few turns, as it has more leverage. At step 22, one dowel hole and a screw hole were not present at all; I drilled the screw hole myself, and did not bother with this one dowel. At step 24, when I affixed the top of the desk to the assembled pedestals, there was a gap of 1-2 mm at each of the top back corners; I solved this by loosening the cams from each of the side panels (B and A), had someone pressing down on the corners, then tightened the cams from the side panels. At step 23, when it came time to put the drawers into the desk, one of the medium drawer did not fit in smoothly; this was solved by simply switching the 2 medium drawers. I find that the 2 holes on the desk top could be avoided altogether, as nothing on my desk requires them, and the 2 grommets supplied for these holes are not very functional or attractive. The top of the desk also could have a more robust finish on it that would be more resistant to scratches. But, all in all, I am very pleased with the finished product -- it is a very attractive desk, in the difficult-to-find light wood colour I was looking for. Please note that for Canadian customers, this desk is considerable more expensive than what posted on the Sauder website. I purchased it from Staples Canada for $1386.99 CDN + tax, which is a very high mark-up, even accounting for the dollar exchange and border duties. While I certainly grind my teeth at this steep price (plus my 16.7 hours of work!), I am very pleased to have this desk. I strongly recommend reading all of the posted reviews on the Sauder website for this desk; they were very helpful in my purchase decision, and somewhat prepared me for this big assembly project.
