Will not maintain a low/smoke temperature

As others have said, poor temp regulation. When set to 225, it would fluctuate between 190 and 360. Warranty service includes you learning how to work on the unit and it is slow. I replaced many of the internal components myself and still could not get it to work. I wasted a few hundred dollars worth of meat and at least 4 hours of my direct time diagnosing and working on the unit before returning it and swallowing the restocking fee. To be fair, my friend has one that works great which is why I purchased this.

CPG-256 Smoker

This was given to me as a gift & is a perfect size for me. After closely following the break-in instructions, I found the smoker averaged 100 degrees above the selected temperature. Customer service was great and sent me a new temperature controller, this was no small deal as it's the most expensive part of the whole smoker! Sadly the second controller gave me about the same results....ugh. I would like to buy a new one just to see the results, but will not because of the cost. No slow cooking of brisket for me. :(

High quality item, but it's just a little small. A rack of ribs barely fits.

one serious issue

the thermostat controls at 50° increments. so if you wish to cook at $325°, you are out of luck!

everything works and cooks as advertised. Hard to put together took 5 hours only draw back. Get yours put together.

Compact and Works Great!

Bought to use with our new RV. First night we had steaks - best tasting steaks we've had in a long time; second night we smoked a turkey breast . . . wow! We love it!

The grill works great.

The grill was very easy to assemble and directions pretty easy to follow. First use was great food.

Defective Cuisinart , Broken Spot Welds!

I received my Cuisinart CPG-256 with broken spot welds where the drip tray is attached to the wall of the unit with three tiny spot welds. I contacted Cuisinart and discussed the issue with them and they didn't seem interested in my issue. This is clearly a manufacturing defect or poor design. I bought it on Amazon and once you open the grill it's almost impossible to repack to return.

Cheap inadequate temp control

The grill is behind the times. It doesnt use pid temp control instead it just feeds pellet on a time based schedule so the temp can vary 100 degrees. The pellet feed tube is too low in the fire pot allowing the fire to back up into the tube and catch the hopper on fire. Better brands have remedied this issue by using a deeper pot or baffles. The grill will probably work for hamburg but I wouldnt try an expensive or temp demanding meat on it.

First pellet grill for me, and I'm new to smoking meats, too. My first attempt with baby back ribs was great. I'm looking forward to other meats. The grill was easy to assemble and worked the first time. Instuctions are clear and easy to follow.

The grill is awesome!!! comes up to temp quickly and maintains it within a few degrees!!! I now cook by time or the meat probe!! Love it!!

Won’t hold proper temperature

I followed all the setup instructions to the letter, and it wouldn’t hold temperature afterward. I set it to 225 and it ran all the way up to 360 and stayed there for an hour, never going back down. Turned it down to low and no change. Shut it down, cleaned it out and tried again, following all instructions and same thing. Called customer service, they said they’d send and email asking for pics and with instructions, never came. Called again, they said they’d send another one, again never came. Emailed them myself the third time and am still awaiting response.

Have found nothing so far to criticize! From burgers and steaks to teriyaki chicken and Char Siu. Happy, happy, happy!

Great little smoker.

I just got this smoker, and have used it twice. I really like it. Only reason I did not give it a 5 seems tho be a lot of dust from the fan. It may be my pellets. I will change to see if that changes.
