[Rewarded Review] Great Machine but short term durability

Makes great espressos, lattes & cappuccinos. Problem is the durability of the machine itself. Be careful when using portafilter. If you over turn or over tighten the portafilter, it can break the inside plastic basket. I unfortunately tightened it too much & now it leaks & saw some pieces of black plastic come out the spout. I would recommend this machine but be careful & delicate when twisting the portafilter on. Also steam wand can be tricky. Be patient & learn the techniques. I swivel & lean to the side to achieve great froth every time.

so easy to use, and relatively mess free. It is a bit loud, but that doesn't bother me. It works like a breeze, and produces consistently great pours with beautiful crema markings. The milk frother works wonderfully with any type of milk (I only use almond or coconut milk). Being a barista years back I learned some milks are really hard to get a nice velvety foam, and this machine does just that with almond milk! It's not latte art quality, but juuuuust close enough that it could be. Here's my advice after owning this machine for a few months now... 1. Start off with some Illy ground espresso in the can (like a previous reviewer had mentioned) so that you can have good tasting espresso while you get used to how your machine works. Tamp your espresso lightly!! Don't cram it in there or it will ruin the flow! 2. Once you get used to how the Illy grounds work with your machine, then you can move on to local coffee shop beans. The reason being that the coffee grounds have more oils in them and are ground a bit more fine so it doesn't come out in a flow, but more of a drip. I typically put my cup right where the drip comes out, and it flows evenly for a perfect crema. Ask your barista for their particular choice in espresso beans when you go to your local roaster. I prefer Peet's Coffee or Philz Coffee's Aromatic Arabic, but make sure you ask them to grind 1 step more coarse then the typical espresso grind to make it a little easier on yourself.. 3. Always wipe your machine after use. I know I can be busy at times and forget to take out the tamp and empty the used espresso out, but try to always wipe the milk frother after use, and wipe down your machine. It comes apart easily so you can really get in there. At least 3 days I do a full rinse of the machine. I know I should do it after every single use, but I have had no problems thus far. 4. Last but not least, make sure you get a ***small*** milk pitcher and tamp (I bought mine from the seller New Star Foodservice since it was priced right and well made). I know you get a 2 in 1 scoop and tamp with this machine, but look for something slightly heavy and stainless steel.

Order from open boxed item and When my daughter opened box it had a whit powdery firm on it with coffee grinds in tray area. Wayfair never opened box when returned and did not inspect item to be resold as open box item. My daughter had an allergic reaction to the white film on item and need to be rushed to the hospital. My husband thru item outside in dumpster to get it out of house. I called wayfair and they said unless I mailed item back to them there was no refund to be processed. I wasnt going to go outside in dumpster and touch whatever was all over item that gave my daughter a reaction to be rushed up to ER. Very disappointed with wayfair on this purchase.

Delonghi

Like: Easy to use, Looks great, Compact, storing extra baskets inside of lid, multiple baskets Dislike: how the basket falls out of the portafiller when you go to knock out the grinds. The metal wire seems flimsy in the portafiller, see photos. Also wish the water tank wasn’t plastic but nothing I can really do about that. Overall very happy with my first machine. Ditched Nespresso due to cost and it breaking, have read durability on Delonghi machines aren’t amazing but hopefully this one will last a long time. Took a little time to learn the machine but

My Origin Story...

I was so impressed at the epic proportions of which this machine and company failed, that I’m writing this review. Within 6 months this thing started spewing boiling hot water out of every opening each time we attempted to have a cup of coffee. Within weeks that this began, it stopped reliably making coffee altogether. I reached out to honor my warranty and get a replacement, however Delonghi has put so many obstacles and employees who have never attended therapy in place that this proved impossible. Don’t be me. Just spend another $100 at a different company and spare yourself minor burns and unpleasant mornings.

Pleasantly surprised good value

My old Saeco Via Venezia finally died and I spent months researching different price points and different kinds of machines. This replaces the functionality from that old machine and once I figured out my grind settings it seems to work just fine. There's a great review on these sort of machines out there on the internet. Pros: good price if you just need something basic. Robust aftermarket for things like portafilters for this unit and size if you want to nerd-out on a budget. Cool little storage area for the baskets. More metal than I thought it would have in the body. Cons: A little too light. You have to hold it while putting in the portafilter which is minor. Pressurized portafilter has more plastic in it (but they all do from what I can tell). More metal would've made it heavier. Took awhile for me to understand the steam-wand - just the hot water portion - quick start guide and the manual seem to be a little different from each other. Plastic on the rounded corners likely will show wear faster. Drips just a little more than my old Saeco, but most of these things just drip!

Just not worth it

I'm a barista and wanted something I could make coffee with at home that was cheap. This was too cheap. It's loud, which I expected. It's not great at frothing so don't bother trying latte art. After a few months of normal use it just stopped working. The espresso turned thin and watery and within the week stopped coming out at all. I tried fixing it but it didn't have anything technically wrong with it that I could see. It just gave up. I'm not surprised for the price but I would advise against it. If you're serious enough about coffee to get an espresso machine you probably want something better anyways.

[Rewarded Review] 3 days in and broken

Run! First of all, I bought this brand new from Best Buy and they sent me a used/damaged product. I double checked that I didn’t order this as an “open box” item, and I didn’t!

Great espresso maker

Only had it for a couple weeks now, but haven’t been to Starbucks or anywhere else since. I was going to get a breville bambino until I watched a couple youtube videos online demonstrating the delonghi. I paid less for this plus a grinder and all the extra accessories than I would have for the bambino. I’ve been very pleased with my purchase and look forward to making a latte, mocha or americano every morning. My shot pulling is a little inconsistent, but that’s probably from my inexperience. The flavor is always there though. At $140 ish it will pay for itself within 3 months from not buying $7 coffees. Hope to get at least a couple years out of it.

Glad to have it

I have had Delongi espresso machines for 6-7 years now and really enjoy making daily lattes for my wife and I. I had to buy one recently because of having to be out of town for an extended time. I love making lattes with this machine. It is easy and very good. I really liked the price point.

Miss

There are two options for the grounds 1 or 2 cups. I use the 2 and it’s not even large enough for the true Amt of espresso for one shot. So it’s truly not a 2 shot option. If you’re used to actually drinking espresso this will be like water. I think it is garbage and I’m truly shocked so many people rated this machine so highly. I honestly do not understand- then since I have to switch it so many times it burns you bc the metal is hot as you’re emptying out the grounds and hot water burns you too. All around a disaster. Do not waste your money, I BEG OF YOU!!

[Rewarded Review] do-all coffee machine

This is a great beginners espresso machine. It does come with the basic tools to start making your favorite coffee drinks. I personally upgraded the filter basket, stamper, the steamer tip.

[Rewarded Review] Good value

As far as espresso machines go that make "real" espresso this one is right on the edge. Anything cheaper and you may as well use a stovetop moka pot. But if you know what you're doing you can get tasty, authentic shots from this. It has a pressurized basket and portafilter, which means you can even use pre-ground grocery store coffee and get a reasonable result. It is also possible to buy a separate compatible bottomless portafilter and unpressurized basket and this machine is capable of pulling authentic shots that way. The steamer is good. The whole thing gets up to temperature quickly. My only real complaint is the machine is so light, even full of water, that it's hard to lock in the portafilter without really holding the whole machine tightly with your other hand.

[Rewarded Review] DO NOT BUY

Absolutely furious! I used to have ECP3420, it breaks down every couple of months. Thankfully, I bought the protection plan multiple times because I know it breaks down.

[Rewarded Review] Excellent Latte for a Value Priced Machine

I received this machine for Christmas 2022 and it is used in our 5months a year seasonal residence. For the price, you cannot go wrong with this machine, it produces a great latte every time, nice frother with pretty dense froth. For the price of this machine, ease of use, clean up, quality of espresso - I've given it 5 stars. There are a few shortcomings but nothing major - I feel the reservoir is somewhat small but I have this near my sink, so use the pull out faucet hose to refill. At Christmas, with my adult children staying, there were 4 of us requiring 2 lattes each every morning, so the reservoir needed to be filled almost daily. The basket in the portafilter has a tendency to come loose once in a while when knocking the grounds out, but that's no big deal. For what this machine cost, it well exceeds expectations.

An Unfortunate Purchase

This machine disappointed me from the first. After seeing a whitish substance coming out of it at the initial use I was not convinced. How was I to know if all of this had been released?

Good espresso machine

The machine works very well overall, and it's really convenient, especially if you use it with ESE pods. ESE pods are more economical than either Nespresso pods or Keurig cups, and they work really well in this machine. I only have 2 comments on things that could be improved. 1. the pump is almost, but not quite, strong enough for a 12 gram double espresso using ground coffee. Could be a little bit stronger. 2. the foamer shoots out a small amount of hot water at first before steam. I have to let it run for a second into an empty pitcher to clear the water, dump it out, then put milk in the pitcher and steam it. Maybe that happens with any espresso machine (?).

It’s a good cup…BUT…it takes some work.

The most important thing that is NOT written in the manual is the amount of coffee that you can use for the espresso filter cups. The espresso is very good, the crema is very nice…BUT, it took a long time to figure it out. The manual states that the arm that holds the filter cups will get easier with each use. That’s not true really. My first first attempts to make espressos were impossible! That is not an exaggeration. I could not turn the handle tight enough to “lock it in place.” I discovered, no thanks to the manuals, that the amount of coffee is critical. It is the difference between making coffee and making a mess. The arm needs to be turned vertically or it leaks. So that should be in the manual, Something like “DON’T FILL THE FILTER CUPS TO THE TOP”. And even when you use less coffee so you can turn the arm, it does not get easier. It’s takes some strength to turn it.

Great Machine At This Price Point

I love the machine, after about 30 double espresso latte’s it will definitely pay for its self. Machine does what I expected.
