I like this little sucker
Look, I realise it's a bit ridiculous - a battery powered jar, ffs! And it's a luxury item. But it adds just a little extra pleasure to my morning espresso when I press the button and hear it ******* my beans.
Possibly a solution in search of a problem
I bought the large, black, electric Atmos. A nice design but I have a some issues. I’m not convinced it’s really necessary. If I only drank one coffee a day it might be but with three mugs, about 60 grams of beans, a day it seems overkill.
So many vacuum canisters…
After purchasing the 400ml version for my wife only to then realise it was too small, I went ahead and purchased the 700ml and 1.2L varieties just to cover my bases. The returns process was super easy, and the staff at the warehouse friendly and helpful.
The best way to keep your coffee investment safe!
We use these on a daily basis. I keep my awesome Fellow Drops coffee in the larger canisters, and keep my nightly grind in the smaller canister for use the next morning. Coffee is just about my favorite drink (and beer would keep in these anyway). When you invest... that's right, invest... as much as we do in coffee, you want to make sure you're getting the best experience every time. The Atmos Vacuum Canisters are easy to use, and there's a size for every need. We've even purchased the glass ones to keep our truffes fresh (www.westcoasttruffledogs.com), but I digress. The ONLY issue I have had is one lid going bad, no longer sealing, and the folks at Fellow replaced it right away. I say the ONLY, but once in awhile the vacuum releases on its own, likely because I didn't have a good seal to begin with. So they're not perfect, but they're the best thing I've found and the support is top notch!
Fantastic Upgrade
These are, bottom line, fantastic. I had the original manual atmos canisters and this resolves my biggest complaint about them - not remaining tightly sealed.
Material Smells | Off Gassing : new car type smell is off putting
I am looking forward to using the Atmos... however upon unboxing it had a very strong VOC off gassing oder emmitting from the materials used both outside and inside. This is really upsetting for such a product... I am going to try and clean it and air it out for a while and see if it is usable. However how can I store tea or coffee in here if that is the baseline smell? Confused.
This is an amazing container, but not just for coffee. I use it mainly to keep my beans fresh, but you can use it for any dry items that need to be kept out of the air. Built-in vacuum by just twisting the lid. Integrated indicator shows green when vacuum is achieved. Press button on lid to release. Tight, firm seal and tough, borosilicate glass to see everything inside. I bought the 1.2L versions but I also have the smaller 0.7L ones. Lids are interchangeable between sizes.
I need more of these
I'm SO happy I finally decided to up my game and try out these vacuum sealed canisters! I was originally skeptical how I'd personally feel with having to twist jars and push buttons and do extra fancy things, when I'm already half-awake while trying to make coffee... but the design is so easy and intuitive! The twisting is easy, no resistance, and there's a little marker that shows up when it's sealed. The button-push to open the top is actually my favorite part, because it releases the most amazing smell of fresh coffee beans. Also, every pot has tasted like I just opened a new bag. So these things are perfect.
Wanted one of these for a long time
I finally bought one. Storing beans in a vacuum sealed container does prolong the shelf life of the beans as contact with oxygen degrades them. Some people use beans so quickly that it's never a problem, but for me, making one latte a day, a single bag lasts long enough that I'm confident the freshness is diminishing by the time I've used it up. Improving the freshness of the last shot over what it would have otherwise been is worthwhile.
Needs Improvement
These Atmos canisters are the only Fellow products I've ever owned that I've not been completely satisfied with. They are good but not great. By Fellow standards, they certainly have a lot of room for improvement. They lose the vacuum seal relatively easily, the lids are difficult to clean, and they take too much time and effort to form the vacuum. It's hard on the wrist.
Great coffee every day
My machine works best with very fresh beans. Each day I have to dial the grind to be finer to account for the beans ageing and each day the coffee gets worse and worse. I bought this to keep the beans fresher for longer and it works. Normally, I need to change my grind every day over the course of a week, but now I can pretty much get though the week with only one grind change mid week and still get a beautiful crema with every pour. Well worth it if you love your coffee.
Fellow Atmos Matte Black Stainless Steel Vacumm Canister : Large - 1.2 liters(16oz)
Firstly, loved the speed. I bought online mid-afternoon and had a dispatch notification 20 minutes later, with delivery in less than 24 hours (for reference, distance is 300km).
4 stars
Only reason this review isn't five stars is that I did have a problem recently where the canister was not holding the vacuum seal over night. It happened two nights in a row. I noticed some small amounts of coffee debris in the rubber seal, cleaned it, and since then it hasn't happened again. Whether that was actually the problem or not I'm not sure, but seems suspect that something so small could cause it to not seal properly.
Ziploc Bags work better for .5% the price
Extremely flawed product that doesn't work as advertised whatsoever. Better off using a ziploc bag to keep your coffee fresh. The vacuum seal on these containers last 12-24 hours at best and then if you actually try to twist the lid to the point where the vacuum indicator is engaged (plot twist it never engages) the container just eats the seal thats supposed to keep the air vacuum locked. Extremely over priced product that doesn't work at all.
A joy to use
A simple unassuming black cylinder, attractive with great feel in one’s hands. It does the obvious, holding bean as one would expect, but reassuringly holds vacuum which is easily obtained by a few twists of the lid. The green indicator is obvious and definitively indicates the desired seal. If you need a vessel, certainly worth considering.
1.2l perfect for 1lb bag of coffee beans
I needed an easy way to keep beans fresh on my counter near my fellows grinder. Fellows has come up with the a really nice way to get a pre-caffeinated brain into well sealed coffee bean container. The black color goes well with a Fellows grinders and a Moccamaster. I do wish they had a green color option for easy identification of which container is full of decaf beans.
A good solution to preserve ground coffee aroma
I used to put ground coffee in a tight container and store it in the fridge to slow down coffee oxidation which causes the taste to become rancid. However, condensation also affected the grinds and the coffee taste.
Not worth the Money
Honestly, I wanted to really like the product. I have two of these and both do not hold the vacuum seal. I thought the first was a file and now the second one does the exact thing. The seal does not last beyond the 24 hours. At the end of the day without the seal, these container become just overpriced canisters I could have gotten from Target for a third of the price. Highly recommend not going with the canister it has been the one piece of Fellow equipment that has been a compete flop.
Novel idea but not ideal for small hands
It's a novel ideal and works well at removing air for freshness, with a nice click and indicator when you've reach necessary air extraction. But it takes a lot of back and forth twisting to remove the air and as the jar becomes emptier it requires even more twisting to remove the air.
Excellent product to keep coffee fresh
This canister has been super helpful in keeping fresh coffee fresh. I typically buy freshly roasted coffee from a local roaster, but often find that, due to frequent work travel, I don’t end up, finishing the bag right away, and need it to last quite some time. In the past, this is always resulted in stale coffee as it has sat on my shelf for upwards of one month. With this canister, it’s vacuum seal removes the air and ensures that it is always of freshly roasted quality.
