It is great for crushing pills and grinding herbs. Built well and good quality.
Love this little pestle set. First thing I used it for was all the little pieces and chunks of nutmeg left over from grating them. Worked perfectly! they are now powder, and it worked fast too.

Note that when buying, there are three different sizes to choose from, so the title is a little misleading. Only the largest sized mortar is "oversized". That said, I bought the 3" diameter one and it's absolutely perfect.

It is not oversized, in fact it is very small
Perfect for grinding peppercorns and other spices. Just the right size. If you need a large mortar and pestle you will have to go for something bigger. But for everyday cooking, this is perfect.
