Solid tent, great features
Had the Storm Break 3 years so far, and maybe a couple/few dozen uses. At half the price of the similarly featured tents from the pro competition, it's an impressive tent IMO. It's a couple pounds heavier, but that has very little effect in my application (mostly motorcycle camping). I've had zero problems with poles, zippers, stitching, fabric, or other parts/details. I'm relatively careful and use common sense in setup and breakdown of the tent. I use a decent ground cloth to protect the floor and avoid exposure to sharp sticks and rock etc. Also avoid over tensioning the loops and holding points when staking and setting up guylines. I'm careful with zippers and don't force them or zip/unzip carelessly or super fast. In my limited experience, the zippers have been excellent. The vestibule flap zippers can be a bit fussy, and I simply use a finger to "lead" the zipper-pull path; this prevents the overlap fabric from getting caught in the pull.
ive done everything with this tent
I've used this tent for backcountry camping, hunting, using it as my tent while working wildfire in Alberta. I've had my dog in it with my (110lbs). and spent probably 50 nights in it since i bought it a couple of years ago. Nothing has broken on it, its still waterproof, it packs well into my backpacking bag, it was relatively cheap.
Best Option on the Market-for beginners
I recently switched to the North Face Stormbreak 2 tent from another model, and I'm really impressed. It's durable, easy to set up, and perfect for camping. The 2-person version is spacious enough for two people and all their gear. Overall, a great choice for beginners or anyone looking for a reliable tent!
Easy up, very waterproof
I love this tent. Ive had it in some severe storms not a drop made it through and held up great. Sets up easy.
I wouldnt recommend this tent in the backcountry
It rained almost every afternoon. The flap over the zipper caught every time you tried to unzip it from the inside. Horrible design! I should not have to hold the flap open with one hand and unzip the rainfly with the other hand!!! Might be one of the worst designs Ever! Maybe you should take the zipper technology in you mummy bags and apply it to your rain fly.
Very dependable!
This is a great tent for a weekend warrior like me that only goes on small treks and camping. I set the tent up in right over four minutes on my first try. I really like the fabric that goes partially up the bug net, it prevents back splash from the rain which is a major bummer I've experienced with other tents especially in the middle of the night. The only downside I can nitpick at is it's slight weight and bulk but as I am not thru or section hiking it is easily gotten along with. I would definitely recommend and as I matter of fact I will be ordering the Stormbreak 1 sometime in the near future.
Had for years now, never let me down
Bought the storm break 2 years ago when a local shop was shutting down on sale. And even if I didn't get it on sale I would buy it again in a heart beat. I have probably about 130+ nights in this bad boy and it still runs as flawless as can be. Only thing I have had to do to it is patch some holes that showed up on the bottom on a couple trips where I forgot my foot print and setup location was less than ideal. (Hunting trips in the mountains in BC) probably my favourite thing about this tent, is as the name says, storm break is its ability to stand strong in the wind. I have had this bad boy set up in some less than ideal locations, in less than ideal conditions and when all the lines are out, and the wind is howling, the tent barely wiggles. I've been beside some hunting partners and heard their tent collapse and the wind just sailed on over the north face storm break. Zippers still work as good as the day I purchased it, fly is still nice and water tight. However I will say, when you have the fly sinched down and are spending lots of hours in the tent it does condensate inside the fly, wich is normal for every tent I have ever used, but if you're able to open up the vestibule doors for a couple hours during the day the screen on the tent itself lets a lot of air through to dry it all up before bed again. 10/10 love this tent.
I love this tent
I absolutely love this tent. So easy to setup; under 10 mins. The two person is perfect for me as a solo camper. Nice and roomy on the inside.
Excellent tent
This is my third tent ( I donated two Tents to the poor). Three features that I love about the tent are the zipper, canopy, and deep interior pockets. This new design of the rain fly is much better because you can unzip/zip one side for quick access to the tent, erect the canopy, and roll up half-way or full for ventilation. This tent handles 55 mph wind to take out your tent properly. It is a little bit heavy but the material is heavy-duty and well-built. I love sitting under the canopy with my two legged chair and make coffee. Get it. You will not regret it. I have 6 high-priced tents, but this one is my favorite to take with me.
Amazing Backpacking Tent
Good Job North Face, you knocked it out of the park with the StormBreak series tents.
Stormbreak 2 is the best tent for the money, period.
Its a very well thought out design with lots of great features. I love everything about this tent except the weight. There is a bit of a learning curve with getting this tent setup and dialed in. To make the best use of the ventilation and/or prepare the tent for stronger winds, you're going to need more stakes than what is included. You will also need to purchase the ground sheet separately or provide your own. The poles that come with this tent are good but not indestructible. I've never had any problems, ever, but I have read some horror stories. My best advice regarding the poles is not to rush things and to follow the instructions for setting up the tent. If you do that, the poles should outlast the fabric. Don't overtighten anything, snug is all you need. Use some common sense and this tent should last a decade no matter how often you use it.
Great tent against the elements.
While looking for an upgrade from my Bass Pro Shop Eclipse 4 person tent I stumbled across this tent. The Stormbreaker 2 tent was everything advertised. Not knowing that We would get hit with a storm while on our weekend trip to Parvin state park. The Storm breaker 2 was put up against winds of 17 mph with gusts as high as 26 , heavy rain and snow all in the same night. It held up great and I would definitely recommend it to a friend.
Perfect size for many applications and durable
My 6 year old needed a small, heavy duty tent for his room. He loves to "play" camping but only with real gear. This doesn't seem like an appropriate test for durability, but trust me he has put the tent through its paces and it's held up. It's the perfect size for two folding memory foam pads and two tall adults fit comfortably and it's huge for kids.
Perfect starter tent!
Super easy set up, takes less than a few mins to fully set up. Materials are durable, keeps the rain out great! Roomy interior & love all the pockets inside. Only downside are the zippers. They tend to get caught of the zipper guards quite frequently. Other than that, it’s a very solid tent for the price! Great for car camping, but you probably want to find a lighter weight tent if you’re backpacking.
Great Tent!
Really happy with this tent. This is my second North Face tent and I purchased this one for backpacking trips. I knew it didn’t pack down as small as other tents, but it still gets pretty small and easily fits in my 65L bag. I actually put the poles in my bag and carry the tent on the outside and it works great! Lots of room for me and my son inside and very solid. Holds up well in high winds and rain. Definitely recommended to anyone looking for a well built 2 person tent that can hold up in bad weather.
Wonderful two person tent! Great for three seasons.
Needed a good quality two person tent for all the bike races we go to and camping trips. This is perfect. Small enough to keep everyone inside warm yet big enough to sleep comfortably and have some extra gear/personal items in the tent. Highly recommend Northface does an amazing job of orienting their products. I have been using them for decades. We have not use this in the winter and I'm not sure we will so we cannot comment on that but in the colder temperatures for fall it's been perfect.
Perfect tent for motorcycle camping and rainy days!
I bought this tent in order to prepare for a moto camping trip. The packed tent fits perfectly in my Kriega Drypack US-30 and along with my other camping gear in the bag, provides a stable pack to attach to the motorcycle.
Poor Zipper w/ Storm Flap design
I recently purchased this tent after strong recommendations from a friend who had a Stormbreak 3 that he has used for several years. I just returned from a 5-day canoe trip in Quetico. During a strong thunderstorm the tent worked well, both in the rain & strong winds. However, I and another friend, who had just received & used the same model tent during this trip, were both extremely disappointed with the zipper system. The zipper cover flap is too short for the situation, in both dry & wet conditions. The zipper constantly caught in the flap. Whether outside the tent or inside it caught, and, unfortunately, it is difficult to constantly have to reach outside to undo the caught zipper when inside the tent. For this major reason I cannot recommend this tent. This is the fourth two-person tent I have owned, from various producers, & I would say I am the most disappointed in a tent from such a respected producer of outdoor gear. Another disappointment: no pole bag!
Protects you from the elements
I initially bought the Stormbreak 2 to take on backpacking camping trips. It is a little on the heavier side and there are definitely lighter tents out there. However this is a great tent for car camping and shorter hike in camping trips. On my first camping trip with it we had torrential downpours for a whole night and day. The Stormbreak 2 held up to the rain and kept everything (including me) super dry! On my second trip with it we had a night that dropped below 10C degrees. I was surprised at how well this tent stays insulated and warm. When I stuck my hand out of the tent flap it was significantly warmer inside the tent then outside. It’s also very cozy if your going solo and spacious enough to comfortably fit 2 people. I love the configuration of the vestibules and that they open up fully (like a door) to easily get in and out and allow for lots of airflow if needed. I think the weight is attributed to sturdier materials and a thicker fly then some of its lightweight peers. If you’re not worried about weight then I would totally recommend the Stormbreak!
A bunker of a tent!
Of all the tents I have checked and tested this comes out on top for durability. Everything about it is just solid! The material of both fly and floor is thicker than most and once set up this thing is just unwavering. Great in bad weather and windy and wet conditions.
