Great product, slight issues with assembly
The bookshelf is very sturdy and a little larger than I thought it would be (but that's largely my fault). It holds all of my heavy books well and it's very nice-looking. My only problems I ran into were that the backing of the bookshelf didn't have any markings indicating where to put the nails in, and when I was assembling it I realized that although the top board and the bottom board are practically identical they CANNOT be interchanged and the whole thing cannot be assembled unless you make sure you can figure out which one is the top and which is the bottom. Overall I would like it if it was a little more clearly explained in the instruction manual.
I love how easy it was to put together. It seems sturdy and holds a lot of things, not problem. I bought 3 of these then found out i needed another one. I am really happy with the quality, the instructions are easy to understand and it was easy to put together. I'm an older female and put it together by myself. I will definitely be getting more.

I couldn’t find the book shelves we have so I’ve added my review here. We have tall book shelves in our living area for books and a designated area for toys, it’s easier for children to tidy up after playing and everything’s in one place. They are strong and we’re very easy to assemble.
refurbished shelves, a partial refund is in order
I was going to call to complain because the shelves were not new but repaired. Apparently during the making of them there were holes drilled in the wrong spots and then filled and glued with obvious patchwork. That is not what I expected when I bought them, I expected them to NEW.
Not Worth the Price
I liked that this bookshelf used long screws for the attached the stationary shelves as this feels more secure. Overall, that was about it for the nicest part of this item. The parts came shrink wrapped together and therefore the backing that you nail to the finished item was warped. This made it difficult to make sure it was on straight and that it laid flat. Various pieces had scuff marks on the white finished edges that I cannot get off. There are two small, long pieces that is attached to the bottom and top of the bookshelf - these are only held onto the bookshelf with a total of four wooden pegs, two on each end. There is nothing that secures the center these long strips of wood so the slightly bow out in the center. There are screw caps that come with this as well and they cracked and broke when trying to put them in, making them worthless. The pegs for the adjustable shelving are not very sturdy and are made out of plastic. I have purchased much less expensive shelves in years past that came in much better shape in the packaging with stronger materials. The directions tell you to nail the center of the backing to the middle stationary shelve, however, there is no indication as to where you should hammer them in. This leaves you guessing and you then run the possibility of putting random holes in the back or hammering the nails into the edge of the shelf, ruining it. Overall, I'm very disappointed and expected more for this item being as expensive as it was. Save your money and go for a shelf that is more affordable.
Just don’t. Don’t read the iffy reviews and think you should give them a shot anyway. Even at the 82 each I paid for these they are over priced by at least half. I ordered two. Everything seemed fine with the first one until we flipped it over to put the shelves in and realized it had bright red marker on it. I used a magic eraser and got it faded to pink and plan to get a couple of baskets to go on the shelf to hide it. When we unpacked the second one I noticed on of the side panels looked like it had a crack in it but it didn’t look to go any deeper than the paint so we went ahead and put it together and wouldn’t you know - that same panel has a raw edge where a finished white one should be. This isn’t an assembly issue. The holes are drilled in such a way that the side pieces aren’t interchangeable so there’s no way we could have just had them mixed up or one of them flipped the wrong way. It looks like instead of sending us a right and left they sent two lefts. I haven’t contacted them yet to see what their resolution will be but I know this - even if it’s excellent service the whole thing will still end in a headache and book cases that are extremely overpriced despite being very inexpensive.
Would be better if the corners weren't damaged....
Ordered this online. While I knew what I was expecting for the reasonable price, I wasn't expecting some of the corners of the boards to be heavily nicked. I don't mind minor scratches, but when a whole corner is so damaged, it's difficult to apply the screws in--that's unacceptable. And because another corner is badly chipped, the bookcase isn't completely sturdy and sways slightly forward on a flat surface. If you're ordering this online, you might wanna think twice.
I'm giving this 4-stars because for the money, it's a pretty decent bookcase. It took me about 2 hours to assemble on my own, but I was moving slowly. I was hoping to not use the black backing as I wanted my lighter wall paint to show through the bookcase to give it a lighter feel in my room. Leaving the back off was absolutely not an option because it provides strength and structure to the bookcase -- without it, it was wobbly and unusable. The backing was not too difficult to nail on, however, it really needed to be about 1/4" to 1/2" wider; you'll need to take your time lining it up properly. In the end, it looks pretty nice and fits my space perfectly.
Poor instructions and quality
The instructions were unhelpful. Parts were damaged (chipped edges and discoloration). I bought another bookcase from the same manufacturer and style/line in a different height at the same time, but the bottom moldings were drilled differently so one was installed upside down. I wasn’t expecting the best quality due to the price, but I am still disappointed with the product. It will serve its purpose for now, but I won’t be purchasing anything else from this manufacturer in the future.
Great Quality
WOW! I was shocked to see how sturdy this shelf was.
BEAUTIFUL
I was looking for a nice bookcase for my grandsons room - I didn't want to pay a lot of money, since he's only with us on weekends; yet, I didn't want something that looked cheap. I ordered this bookcase from South Shore and I have to tell you, I was stunned when I opened the box! Although it is the pressed wood, it is absolutely beautiful!! I did have one problem, one of the boards didn't have pre-drilled holes, so I contacted the customer representative, Blanca, and she was SOOOOO HELPFUL!!! She immediately got another wood piece delivered to my home - and it was PERFECT!! I am 67 years old, with arthritis, and this was very easy to assemble! It is VERY sturdy and looks like it cost a lot more than $70.00!! I wish I would have done his entire room using South Shore furniture - absolutely TOP QUALITY at a very affordable price!! I couldn't be happier! And Blanca, you are THE BEST!! I would order through the company just because of YOU!! :)
Holes did not line up, cheap, poorly made
It went together easy. However, the pre-drilled holes had one side of it sticking out about 3/8 of an inch. It looked ghetto. I have a college degree and am good with putting things like this together so I am sure I have it together correct. It was just manufactured poorly. The other thing I don't like is the giant metal screwheads on the finished surface. They have a cheap plastic insert to cover them that looks like a cheap plastic insert. Bottom line, these are cheap garbage.
Great price for a 4 shelf book case
I bought 2 of the 4 shelf book cases because my 5 shelf bookcase was destroyed in a move. The delivery was free and came within a week. The instructions were easy to follow and even though they suggest 2 adults to assemble, when you live alone, you build alone. I built each one within 20 minutes. The only negative comment I need to make is that my front top cross bar would not screw in properly and so it hangs about 1/4 inches loose. But
The product was easy to assemble and the natural color made it a good fit with the other furnitur...
The product was easy to assemble and the natural color made it a good fit with the other furniture in a small bedroom. It is already serving its purpose for light storage and is very well-worth the price. The only draw back was that one of the panels had a removable paper strip across one portion that we thought was there for protective purposes during shipping and we did not remove it until the bookcase was assembled. It turned out that it was covering a slit in the finish on the panel (a manufacturing defect, we suppose), but it was too late to return, as we had already assembled everything. I would suggest that others check out all the pieces prior to assembling.
Looks ok, quality not great
Would have been ok for $40., but not for this price...I expected more. I bought in grey and the grey covering is like cheap heavy paper on the board. The edges were coming off the board right out of the package and it shined after being put together. When I was moving it to the spot I wanted it in, the back edge split slightly. I was buying this to replace my white Sauder bookcase I've had fir years and it doesn't even come close to Sauder quality. I expect I'm going to have to baby this bookcase to keep it looking ok. One if my boards came with the corner crushed, which I believe was caused in shipping, since there was a hole knocked in box. I will say the customer service for this company was great and they got a replacement out to me immediately. Also bought the 3 shelf cabinet and had exact same problem with the paper outside at the edges. Wouldn't recommend this companies products to anyone. Cheap quality at a high price
Satisfactory quality for the price
For the low cost, this bookcase is wonderful. The cherry finish laminate is beautiful and yes, it does leave a slight residue on your hands if you run them over it, but in no way does it rub off. The instructions make it clear that it can't take any chemical cleaning products or much water, so be mindful of that if you plan on buying this.
Good product
I ordered two (white). This is the first put-together product that I've received where the holes were properly drilled and matched up. And, plenty of supplies. The instructions are pictures only, so I had to figure out a few things. Both arrived on time as promised, in good shape and fairly easy to put together. The back is heavy cardboard (color matches the bookcase), attached with small nails to the back. I'm using them as shelves in my master closet to hold linens and other items. I recommend this bookcase if you don't need a heavy-duty, all-wood, frequently used bookcase (like shoving books in and out a lot as the back may become loose). All you need is a small hammer and Phillips screwdriver to put them together. They are great, basic, shelves.
A Sturdy Cabinet with one minor design flaw.
I bought this cabinet to compliment my long discontinued Furinno bookcases, which I use to hold board games. The instructions were easy to understand and the materials themselves seem to be average quality for the price of the product. Once finished, it looks great and holds my stuff adequately, but there's a design flaw - the pieces that hold up the removable shelves are hard, flat plastic ledges that simply hold up the shelf as opposed to the pegs that fit into grooves like on the Furinno. Since the shelves have nothing to prevent them from sliding out, when you try to pull something out of the bookcase horizontally you might accidentally take the whole shelf with you. This was easily addressed by buying some double sided tape and applying it to the top of the plastic pieces, but could be a problem if you're not aware of this flaw.
