Great Thermostat & Easy Installation

I upgraded my thermostat from a T5 to a T9. I was procrastinating because of the thought of rewiring to a new wall plate for the upgrade. To my surprise, the wall plates were identical! This was simply a plug and play installation. I like the features of the background colors, orange for heating and blue for cooling. I also like the size of the numbers (of the temperature) so I can see it from across the room. I like the programmable features, especially the auto temperature, where I don't have to change from cooling to heating with the change of the seasons! I just set what I want the house to heat to and wnhat I want it to cool to and leave it on Auto. AND...if you run into any issues while you are installing/programming, the Honeywell customer service is absolutely amazing and available on the weekends!

Dropped connection to my system - and always on!

Out of the blue, four years after purchasing, the main unit stopped being connected the same way to our system and to the app. We used to have a "dual" option (for both heat and a/c) on the master unit. It could be set as "if the temperature reaches x, cool. If the temperature reaches y, heat." This was one of the things we LOVED about the thermostat. Having a two zoned home with TWO of these (a master and a "dependent" thermostat) it's important that they both function the same. This time of year in New England, there are days that we set this dual temp setting to a 15 degree range and let things go. Having it just disappear is awful! Plus, the random cycling of the system all night keeps me awake. It's for the birds. This really picked up mid-March. Time to toss anything Honeywell, in my opinion, and report my concerns to the state department of Energy.

[Rewarded Review] Great thermostat, terrible app

We love the thermostat, but hate the app. We've purchased two of these thermostats, as we lived in two different states in the past five years. If it weren't for the app, I'd give five stars. The app is very slow to update, making it inaccurate the majority of the time. The app is very antiquated for 2024, and in dealing with it for a few years, it seems to only seems to get worse. Super frustrating and unreliable.

2 years later and it now shorts my HVAC

I bought this just over two years ago and now it fries my HVAC control board fuse every time. Its super disappointing that this is just a couple months out of warranty and now completely worthless. I had to run out and buy a new thermostat in an emergency. I considered this a $300 investment in a multifunction "smart" thermostat and now have nothing but a paper weight to show for it. I originally posted this under the T10 section, but checked my records and it is a T9. Super unhappy.

It was already a used product and the piece that attaches to the wiring did not work which is probably why it was returned. I was able to use my old thermostats attachment and get the system working. Had we not been in a heatwave I would have returned it but needed the ac to turn on. Currently can’t get the app connected to the system either but can still operate it without that aspect. Paid smart pricing for a product that doesn’t have smart capabilities.

GOOD PRODUCT BUT...

I have no complaints about the thermostat, it works well and as described, but two concerns: 1) It came with an adaptor for those whose wiring in the box does not contain a "C" wire. My home has been updated, so the box contained a C Wire, and I am left with a gadget I don't know what to do with. I don't just want to put it in the garbage and send it to the landfill. 2) Overall, the product came in 500% more packaging it needs. Again, I have to send a lot of material to a landfill. This product does not require nearly this much packaging.

GARBAGE

Ordered T9 with additional sensor directly from the Resideo website. Verified proper operation of heating and air conditioning immediately upon installation. All systems functioned normally.

[Rewarded Review] Better than a 20 year old thermostat

A bit of a challenge to install - no directions how to install with no C connection on furnace, thanks to YouTube for having an option. Once installed, it does what it suggests, however I was expecting more bells and whistles, at minimum a way to dim or shut off panel light - I didn't want a hallway nightlight! So far with programming it hasn't come on at all yet (SoCal winter averaging 65'ish), I did test it after install to make sure it worked but may have to test again to verify! App works fine. I have not installed the thermostat on wall yet, maybe it'd be better putting it in the wall and just use app! Haven't had long enough to know how well the sensor is helping balance temp, won't know more until summer when temps will be up/down 30+/-.

Not for places that experience temperatures <40

I was really excited about installing two of these thermostats with the extra room sensors for each level of my house. However, within two weeks of installing, we realized it was triggering our aux heat constantly. It would only be 40 degrees out and we would adjust the temperature by 1 degree and the aux heat would come on. I contacted support and they advised I adjust some settings which I did but it didn't fix the problem. I threw out the boxes since I was initially happy with them before realizing they were regularly triggering our aux heat and raising our electricity bill instead of lowering it like smart thermostats are advertised to do. I removed them and reinstalled our old "dumb" thermostats to avoid our aux heat coming on all the time and now I am stuck with two T9s that were a waste of money. Don't buy if you live anywhere where it gets to 40 degrees or lower on a regular basis in the winter...I live in Virginia so its not like I live in a very cold place.

Worst smart thermostat on the market

I bought this a month ago to upgrade the Carrier smart thermostat that came with my house. Installation was easy but I am unable to create an accurate schedule in my time zone, it uses time pulled from the internet but not the current time zone. The time zone cannot be set in the thermostat so I had to convert my schedule to GMT time.

The remote WiFi monitoring was the reason I bought this...

The remote WiFi monitoring was the reason I bought this model. Most importantly, in addition to temperature, it reads out humidity which is important to remotely monitor my Florida home to avoid mold. Wish the humidity was display on the app home screen next to temperature, but with a single touch, you can get this info. Theoretically, it will send me a notification if temp or humidity go out of range, but I have not yet had this issue/notification yet. I used a Nest thermostat on a prior rental, but I prefer the straight forward, less style conscious, operation. The NEST was kind of interesting in its UI, but it was more cumbersome to operate. With this unit, you program every function in a very obvious way with adequate screen text to avoid confusion, both on the unit itself, and app. No walking away wondering if set up properly. This is an appliance that does exactly what you would hope without any fuss or confusion. I have no interest in Alexa or Google integration, so I can not speak to these features. All I wanted was reliable monitoring by phone and control. I may have spent more than I wanted, but I am rewarded with an item that works perfectly for the intended purpose and is unusually easy to operate. It was the right choice for me. My only criticism is that it could have come with a more generously sized base plate for optional use, as the hole in my wall for the wires was overly large and previously fully covered by a larger, also modern Honeywell thermostat with a larger footprint. I would have preferred for this unit to fully cover the hole in the wall without the need for spackling as did the prior Honeywell "builders grade" thermostat. For the premium price of this unit, they could have thrown in a larger piece of plastic trim to cover the full footprint of most other thermostats and avoid the need for paint and spackle to cover wire and mounting holes.

Horrible Customer Service and Product Logivity....

Purchased a T9 Smart Thermostat for our house a little over a year ago. Yesterday morning we woke up to our furnance off, a blank screen thermostat and a burnt plastic smell (after taking the thermostat off the wall). After hours of troubleshooting and a furnance technicians diagnostic it was determined that our thermostat had catastrophic failure. The result was that it shorted out our thermostat and furnance control board. We contacted Honeywell directly and they redirected us to Resideo who in turn redirected us to contact our contractor...stating that it was not their problem. The fault was in the Honeywell product itself. We were also told that a contractor could only purchase this unit, which is simply not true as we purchased this off shelf from Home Depot and it was installed by a licenced electrican. Very disappointed with the level of customer service from Honeywell. We will not be purchasing another thermostat from this company as there is no reason it should breakdown after a year of use.

Great product, high price, not the easiest install for non-techies.

/Excellent digital thermostat for aircon and furnace. Not as simple to set up as the "Hook up the 2 wires and go" type thermostat, but once it is installed it is outstanding. Uses a phone App to manage the system after it is set up, and scheduling is quite simple once installed. Not for non-techy customers, as the setup procedure makes an assumption that the user understands the basics of digital installation. Found the instruction manual included to be a little incomplete. Searching around on the net found a much better manual, provided by Honeywell, that would have made the installation easier had I found it earlier. Running the furnace (its winter) has been a big improvement over our previous basic mechanical thermostat. Our costs have gone down due to better control, and features like the ability to decide which time you want a particular temperature to be reached, and automatically starting the heating earlier to allow the overall heatup time, which might be a half hour, to occur before the time that you want it to be at the correct temperature, is marvelous. The item comes with a second temperature monitor that senses when another room, like a basement, has people moving around in it, and tells the heater to adjust the temperature in that area to the set temperature. Certainly on the high end of pricing, but as I've gotten used to it, the price was almost worth it.

Good fit for us, some minor issues

Our first smart/wifi thermostat (also Honeywell) stopped working (repeatedly reset/rebooted and inside temperature readings were way off) after about 7 years, 2 years after it moved with us to our current home. We picked up a T9 to replace it since that was the model I'd been considering when we moved had we left the old thermostat behind. The remote temperature sensors are a nice improvement which we have in the bedrooms to keep them more comfortable at night (before that the bedrooms dropped about 4 degrees below the living area where the thermostat was located).

[Rewarded Review] A landlord's best friend.

Sure there are other Wi-Fi thermostats out there with more connectivity to apps such as Alexa or whatever but I don't need that. I just need it to do what I tell it to do without Alexis sticking her stupid nose into it. I am a landlord and I pay the heat at my properties therefore I control it. What I like about this thermostat is the wireless sensors... I have one in each apartment so the temperature in each apartment of the building can be monitored. I have a four Plex and if one of the tenants thinks it's cute to have their window open in the winter time because they're not paying the heat then I simply turn off the sensor to their apartment and they do not trigger the thermostat all they do by opening the window is get themselves and only themselves cold and do not kick up my heat bill. Truly a landlord's best friend and what I like about these wireless sensors compared to the ones offered by nest and those other guys is the range is superior and I've had zero connectivity problems they never lose signal and my furthest one is 127 ft away from the main thermostat which is in the basement by the way near the furnace with tenants have no access. I control everything from the app on my phone. I can adjust it from the comfort of my home and I get heads up on if there are any issues with temperature alerts. If you are a landlord and you need remote sensor capability please consider this one over the competition. Honeywell has been in the business of environmental controls for much longer than these New kids on the block. And you can take that to the bank... literally

Can’t fine tune important HVAC settings

I installed this 4 days ago. Installation was easy as I had an unused C wire on my existing old, round, dumb Honeywell thermostat. I also had no problems connecting to the internet or using the app.

[Rewarded Review] Frustrating

Coming from an Ecobee 3, I first tried the Ecobee with Voice Control and was unable to get it to work with the wiring in my apartment. I purchased this unit because the main thing I liked about the Ecobee was the ability to be able to both detect when someone's in a room and to be able to detect that the occupied room is at the comfort setting. The frustrations start with the app and development. Honeywell has two different platforms for these thermostats -- Honeywell's Total Connect Comfort and Honeywell Home App and these two apps seemingly aren't connected in any way. When trying to program my Harmony remote to be able to work with the Honeywell, it only functions with the Total Connect Comfort which I could not get my thermostat to work with. Furthermore, I could not enroll my thermostat into the energy savings program with my local energy company because there's an issue with the Resideo website (yet ANOTHER Honeywell interface tied to these thermostats) where even though everything is filled out it says a required field is not completed. The Honeywell app also lacks the polish of competitors, both in interface and reporting. I'd love to see Honeywell come up with ONE INTERFACE for everything. The experience so far feels messy and disjointed like they're still trying to figure out how to merge these different sources into one and we're the beta testers stuck in the middle of it all. Comparably, Ecobee has had one app from day one. The app is very polished. Reporting is also very polished (although I liked the Nest's way of telling you how many leaves you earned and how much more energy efficient you were than your neighbors). Connecting both Nest and Ecobee to my energy provider was seamless and worked the first time without hoops. Nest's geofencing feature was terrible. Ecobee and Honeywell have an ace up the sleeve in the sense that they can also leverage the room sensors to provide faster reaction than the geofencing. For those who've used geofencing it's not always instant. It would also be nice to see Honeywell spend more time in the design department. When you look at the Nest and Ecobee, both are much more sleek and modern-looking than this.

This is an amazing unit - but you need to know how to set it up!

I seems many negative comments are because they do not know how to set it up. I bought one with 2 sensors - installed one in the family room, other in the master bedroom. I tried the motion detection at first to set priority rooms, but found when motion died down (say when you go to bed!) it doesn't detect motion and drops that sensor from priority. I then discovered the scheduling system - OMG! I first set up the Sleep period from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am, and picked the master bedroom sensor as the sensor to get readings from (called a priority sensor). I then enabled auto changeover in the thermostat (so it will change between heat and cool automatically) and set a temp range of 67 cool and 66 heat. If the bedroom is warmer than 67 when the Sleep cycle is running, it runs the AC until the bedroom cools down to 67. So, later in the night, if the temp drops below 66, it runs the heat until it get to 66 in the bedroom. The range for each period is totally settable. I set similar settings for the Home period and have it use the family room sensor for temp detection, and then set an Away period (using the actual thermostat for the temp readings) with a broader range - 62 to 74. You can also pick 2 or more sensors for a period and it will average the temp between them. If you want a period that acts like an overlap period, add another period, set it to run between the two periods you want the overlap, and pick the sensors you want to average out. And I have had no issues with sensor range.
