This thermostat TH8320R1003 is awful.
This thermostat TH8320R1003 is awful. Do not purchase or let the HVAC guy install this.
Replacing an Older Honeywell Thermostat
1. Installed but unless I simply cross the two wires of my zoned heat-only system, it won’t signal the circulating pump. There are plenty of terminals and the wires have continuity, but no heat! C and ????
Instructions do not explain humidity setting
Maybe I missed it, but I cannot find any explanation of how the humidity setting works. Does the humidity setting override the temperature setting, and how much can it override it? Will it lower the temp 1 degree, 2 degrees, 3 degrees, unlimited? What's the logic?
Lack of conclusion and fulfillment of warranty
After 3+ years of perfect operation my Honeywell Thermostat (HWT=TH8110R-1008 coupled with THM5421R) made by Resideo Technologies, my air blower unit was always on, even if the HWT was in the off mode. After 2 sessions with tech support and much self-diagnostics I determined that the issue is with the HWT system and not the blower unit.
I installed this thermostat as a replace...
I installed this thermostat as a replacement for the original which failed after 5 years. So far so good. The replacement looked new as promised and seems to work fine.
Thermostat Locked with a code.
Our Thermostat accidentally locked with some code and we forgot the code. I don't know how to reset the password or factory restore the thermostat..
Missing RedLink
Bought a house with this Thermostat Redlink technology. Found the manuals and instructions, everything points to the previous owner using the Redlink gateway to control remotely, but the gateway is no where to be found in the house.
Forget trying to set up the Wi-Fi
Just got the 8000 series thermostat today. Everything about Honeywells websites is a frustrating pain. From my first attempt to chat to the final process to set up the wifi, each step was met with broken websites. At one point I was waiting for a reply from chat when a marketing pop up opened and locked up my tablet. Had to exit. Then, I try to down load the app for my thermostats. There is one app for Honeywell but it’s not working. Turns out there is another app called Resideo that works. I set up an account and start setting up the Wi-Fi on the new 8000 series thermostat. The thermostat tells me to go to Resideo.com/TCC. I have to set up ANOTHER account. Then, a screen with the policies to read and acknowledge for this site wont work. Has 1 decline button and 2 accept, but neither accept works. BUT if you select full view, it reveals there is a box to check. A box not visible on the original screen. But wait! There’s more. I finally get to the point of setting up my account and it tells me to activate using the link in the email just sent. No email. Wait a bit, still no email. Hit resend. Nice, I get a green check mark that an email has been sent. Still no email. Check spam/junk folder. Nope. Resend again, nope, nope, and nope again. Try to start the process over. Nope, tells me I have an account that needs to be activated. Continue to try and end up getting locked out. Forget it! I cannot believe they are selling a product that only gets 2 stars on Honeywells own site. A coworker tells me that he had the same experience with the websites, and recommended calling. They are much better if you call for help. I will call for support. This will be Honeywells only chance to redeem themselves. Failure will mean I pull the Honeywell thermostats and replace with something reliable, intuitive, user friendly, has websites that work, and are far better rated than Honeywell products. But for future purchases, I will not support a product/company that makes the customer experience frustrating.
Impossible to update the time
2 years old and I am not able to update the time for DST. Selecting DST in the menu has not affect. It worked on previous time changes. Not much help on their website. You cannot even lookup the warranty information because it has to be done a pro. Ridiculous.
Redlink Never Works and Customer Service Can't Fix
The Redlink never works on my Thermostat. I've called customer service and we got it working for five minutes after an hour on the phone. I've reset my WIFI (all other WIFI works) and it also only works for five minutes.
Remove the AA batteries
I installed per the instructions and the heat would not come on. My HVAC guy told me to remove the batteries and the thermostat has worked perfectly controlling temperature and humidity since.
Disappointing
This thermostat came in the house we purchased. There does not appear to be any delay when the A/C turns off and back on. It constantly cycles the the unit off and on with little or no delay between cycles. This has to be terribly bad for the A/C unit, as well as extremely wasteful on electricity. If you want to control it remotely you have to spend more money to buy an internet gateway device. Strange to have to spend more money when it is a "wireless" thermostat.
Configuring Aux Heat
To Jeffke: Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I started with the Installation Manual (140 pages, accessed through manualslib.com). This told me how to find the Installer Options password, plus the 3 settings I would want to change: Backup Heat Droop, Upstage Timer for Backup Heat, and Outdoor Lockup for Backup Heat. [they also recommend not doing this yourself, and I was careful to note the initial settings so I could change them back.] After trying this for a few days, I’ve found:
Can't set the time
Mine doesn't have an option in the menu, to set the time, and the time being displayed is incorrect. It is currently 2:02pm and the unit shows 1:45am. No problems other than that, but why isn't the time setting option in my menu?
Can't set date and time
This was installed by a professional and I cannot change the date/time. From searching the web this appears to be a common problem for others. Following the instructions and tapping the current time does not work. There is also no Date/Time option in the menu.
Touchscreen Issues
After several years of relatively faultless operation, the touchscreen is not operating properly. When you press the location on the screen that you want to operate, it does not work, or it recognizes the function next to it. Eventually figured out that the touchscreen is no longer synched with the location of the virtual buttons. It is an adventure (not positive) to try to make adjustments using the touchscreen, sometimes just not possible.
Stop Aux Heat from Coming In Unnecessarily
To RSIT: I had the same problem. Even when the thermostat called for one degree of rise and it was warm outside, the thermostat used Aux Heat, at unneeded expense. It's a programming issue. I see by your photo that you have an outside temp sensor, which is needed to remedy this issue. This is how to fix it: In your installer programming, there is an Aux Heat Lockout setting. Input 40 degrees. That will prevent Aux Heat from coming in above that outdoor temp. The result is that the thermostat will have a heating cycle with normal recovery and no Aux Heat. Below 40 degrees outside, you will still have Aux Heat supplement the heating.
Uses more energy than non-programmable thermostat
This is our first heating season in our house, equipped with a heat pump and a Honeywell TH8320R1003 thermostat, professionally installed. When the heat comes on in the morning, it “always” uses Auxiliary Heat, which draws 5 times as much current as regular heat. By “always”, I mean every single day. As others note, there doesn't seem to be a decent manual or support article for this thermostat. We are finding that our heating actually uses less energy in a day if we don’t program the thermostat – if it stays at the same temperature all the time, so Aux Heat isn’t needed. A programmable thermostat is supposed to save energy. This one wastes it. I'm hoping Honeywell will either prove me a fool, by offering a simple way to keep Aux Heat from coming on, or recommend a more suitable thermostat.
Piece of crap
Notice the one positive review is from an installer. Try to download a user manual, I dare you, I called C.S. and was told, they won't allow you to. So you buy this piece of crap, want to program it and you're left to you own devices, shts buried in the software, it isn't intuitive, or you can call the "technician" you know the kid that barley graduated from HS, but managed to take a few classes and works for uncle Sid to fix it, he has the manual.
very frustrating
To begin with, this thermostat was installed, with my new HVAC system, without my approval or consideration of my preference. It does NOT suit my needs. The tech set it up for automatic running. The temperature results gave me a miserable, sleepless night. Trying to shut down the automatic function has been very frustrating.
