The bed is beautiful, feels solid, and doesn't look cheap. However -- I am no stranger to putting together flat-pack furniture, and this was BY FAR the hardest thing I've ever had to put together. The bag of hardware includes at least 6 different sizes of bolts, and probably close to 200 pieces total? Because there are so many pieces, the diagrams are overwhelming to follow, and there are places where if you don't follow it *exactly*, you will damage the bed. (I sent several bolts straight through the beautiful front finish of of the footboard because I missed that I was supposed to use washers there). And the legs are EXTREMELY difficult to put together without there being a large wobbly gap between the vertical support and the horizontal piece along the floor that makes this bed so unique. . . Also, the wood has a kind of unfinished quality to it, not a varnish like I was expecting, and it's darker than the photo -- less caramel and closer to a true dark walnut. . . I think I'll be pleased overall -- hence a generous 4 stars -- but right now I'm sore and frustrated from putting the darn thing together.
