Excellent Tool
Klein Tools provides another professional tool. Easy to use and accurate. One trip to the breaker box regardless of how the breakers are wired or labeled. Easy storage of the plug in the butt of the Receiver. Highly recommended.
They make it hard to write a review I wonder why
I am an electrician and bought this out of curiosity. I Followed the instructions. Scanned my panel and it kept ringing to the same breaker. It was right one out of maybe seven but by then I was helping it because I knew what breaker it was. It’s super cheap plastic feeling like toys r us. Klein used to be a gold standard in the electrical field. I hope this quality doesn’t transcend to your hands tools. I bet they oblete this review because there is no way it has this good it’s review
Are the positive reviews fake
I bought this and I am an electrician. Was curious. Followed the instructions. When I would plug it in to a receptacle and scan my panel it kept beeping red on the same breaker. I’m not sure the minimum and maximum specified range in this because it’s hard to look up. Maybe it’s in the manual I need to look with a fine tooth comb. It feels extra plastic. Not what I’d expect from Klein but I guess all good brands are going cheap on us. I hate to say it but what a shame and a sham. I believe the reviews are skured and I bet this review is never seen by anyone. Shame on you Klein. Used to be a gold standard
This circuit finder works much better than older versions. Took less than a minute to find out what circuit our furnace runs on. My old one was 8 years old and wasn't worth the effort. This new Klein makes it easy.
I accept 2 to o 3 even 5 location lights on.
Completely useless! I accept 2-5 breaker locations light on but I fiound only one location light up. So, I turn off 2 more breaker switches next to it. When I returned to the outlet location. I found the location still light on and the wire still live. I use this device to check against and same result. Finally, I needed to check out one by one. Until 10 breaker away, I found it. I used this device to checked against. But it still doesn’t work. So, I tried others outlets. Some location have 2 breaker lights on and some have 4 lights on. But I am still able to turn off the power. I don’t recommend this product specially diy.
Can't find a breaker...No Problem!
This makes finding a circuit in a residence a breeze. The bottom of the device acts as a gfci which is a nice bonus. Just plug it in on one end then go to your breaker and sniff it out. It's that easy! The only gripe I have with this product is when using it of a three phase panel. It seems to pick up the circuit's enitre phase once plugged in. For example if I plug it into Circuit 1 it would pick up on all of the circuits in A Phase. I would highly recommend this product to others.
Testing could not be easier.
I have a breaker box on the main floor and a second one upstairs. Both breaker boxes are poorly labeled. I use this Klein tool to quickly find the right breaker switch and to test outlets when I am replacing outlets. I love knowing that I can test each outlet and circuit and get an immediate read if all is well or if there is a wiring problem.
Turns Off During Use
I needed to confirm my power panel displayed the correct labeling prior to determining which breakers to turn off or turn on during a power outage and hooking up my generator via a GenerLink. Working alone I would plug in the transmitter in a room, then go to the power panel to find the appropriate breaker. After repositioning the transmitter and searching for the next breaker oftentimes the receiver would shut off, even as I was touching breakers in the panel. The manual says the receiver will shut off after three minutes of inactivity. Isn’t touching breakers with the receiver tip enough to indicate activity? It’s a minor annoyance since I just turn it back on. Other than that it’s accurate and has been a great help in verifying my panel.
This circuit breaker finder kind of works sometimes, but that’s about all I can say. I was using it in a building with 3 breaker panels and it often would strongly indicate multiple breakers, sometimes in the wrong panels, and sometimes wouldn’t indicate at all on the correct breaker. I often had to resort to turning off every breaker one by one to locate the correct one. I really don’t think the convenience when it works well is worth the weight and space it takes in my bag.
Close but no cigar
I bought this several months ago. Part of my panels are identified but some are not. I was replacing a single gang box with a double gang box and adding a switch for under cabinet lighting. I have one panel upstairs and one down. This was on the uptairs so I didn't want to keep running up and down the stairs. I used the tool and it kept giving me the same breaker which was not correct. The correct breaker was one down. I'll give it another shot on my next project.
Certainly makes life a lot easier
While not exacting, in my experience, this tool gets you in the area and you might have to flip 2 or 3 breakers which is a lot better than a fishing expedition. Of course it makes locating a breaker a million times easier when you are working alone and not have to run back and forth or yell throughout the house.
The constant chirping sound is incredibly annoying, and it’s difficult to isolate a circuit, with false positives not uncommon. Need to go over breakers multiple times.
Must have.
Can’t believe I went this long without this device. My daughter bought a house that is a wiring nightmare. This helped me locate breakers with ease. Simple to use and it’s a Klein, so you know it’s quality.
Didn't work for me
I occasionally need to identify a circuit breaker in my home so I purchased this tool. I read the directions and learned how to calibrate it. The tool identified 3 possible circuit breakers, but none of them were correct. I had to revert to flipping breakers to get the job done - which defeats the purpose of buying this tool.
Does not "learn" well enough
Tried to find the correct breaker 4 different times with no luck. The "learning process" does not seem to work well.
Not always accurate & expensive.
The indicator turns red on nearby breakers, so I still end up flipping breakers and going back and forth to find the correct breaker. (There's a reason for that and it's not the tool's fault but customers should be aware of this.) Secondly, for the cost, the adapter kit should be included. (I might return this and purchase a cheaper brand that works just as well. Why not?)
The circuit breaker finder worked like a charm. My breaker panel is a nightmare and got tired of running around endlessly. I found the breaker to the outlet immediately. I now will use the circuit breaker finder to relabel my whole panel and have my sanity back. Great purchase! Very pleased.
Waste of time and money in most situations
My experience with the Klein ET310 at 2 properties was the same as most other 1-star reviewers. Modern homes and businesses simply have too many electrical devices that either attenuate or interfere with this tool’s transmitter and receiver. Klein’s advice is to unplug everything from the facility prior to testing, which entirely defeats the purpose of a non-disruptive tester. You’ll spend far less time finding breakers by doing it the old-fashioned way: flipping them.
Meh
Many home owners have a good idea of which breaker controls which circuit. But they might not have details on all the receptacles, light fixtures connected to that circuit. This tool can be used for that BUT I find it faster to do the throw breaker and check routine than use this tool. Also, the beeping should sound only when near the breaker, not when turned on. Often, you will have 2 adjacent breakers that induce rapid beeping and light color change. You then have to check both breakers. So not that helpful.
