Package had no extra protection from damage during shipment. It was in the original manufacturers box. The box was beat up and some of the coils for cooling on the AC were crushed in. AC unit is not cooling after installation. Installation was difficult. You have to pull the entire unit out of its cheap metal case to add brackets for the binds that close the opening in the window and the support feet. Material was cheap and bent. Cover wouldn't snap in because the cheap metal case was bent out of shape. Turned it on and it doesn't blow cold air. Its like adding a fan. It just blows air.

It cools, but annoyingly loud.

Great price and promptly received. I had been looking at this model AC unit for a couple years, figuring I'd need to replace my aging unit. With summer temps fast approaching, I was delighted to find the unit available at a very attractive price. It was only after receiving and installing the unit, that I discovered it was refurbished. While fully functional, it does have a pulsating hum from the compressor.

A nightmare, not so easy to install

" easy and straightforward" it is not. I owned it for less than 90 minutes, and 30 minutes of that was driving back and forth to Lowes. I returned it in pieces, I wasn't wasting more time putting it back together.

Gonna Be cold with the new air conditioner!! Brrrr

Well my husband is completely exstatic with his new window air conditioner for his shop/man cave/a place for guys to get dirty while playing with they're toys...just joking guys I have a toy of my own out there too I just don't know how to work on it so I leave it to the men. Yes we have a lot of friends that line to come over and work on they're Harleys here too and drink beer and yes just get dirty, but it's fun!! It's even more fun when you can stay cool while doing it though!! The air conditioner they had bought before was just too small, I hated going out there to visit with everyone now it's going to stay nice and cool, it'll probably be too cold now I'll have to wear a parka or at least hang one on the hook at the door when you go in...lol. He love, love, loves it!! It's going to come in very handy for many years to come, I'll probably be back to order the other one that is also a heater as well now. My husband seen it and now I'm pretty sure I'll be getting that one before it starts getting too cold. This one was perfect for the one side so I know I'll be back for the other one with cooling and heating for the other side, but that's another day they haven't finished the other side yet...I'm thinking they'll probably get busy fast now on that. Thank you again BB&B/O for another great buy I would definitely recommend this site to my friends and this buy!! Very, very happy customers!! 😎*💯**❤️Will have to take pics tomarrow they're putting it in right now don't want to disturb them...post them tomarrow. Thank you.

Damaged during shipping.

Though I'm sure the A/C was great, it arrived damaged (via FedEx) and thankfully we had a Walmart fairly close by to return. the shipping box was NOT packaged very well, with NOTHING protecting any gouges, etc., on all sides. The box was punctured/torn on 2 sides, thus crushing significant amounts of the fins that we could not/would not attemp to fix. Which is why I'm giving only 3 stars. We currently have an LG with remote and it's worked and cooled great for nearly 10-12 years now, so I know the brand is reliable. but, the blower is starting to go out.

Wifi worked for less than a year, useless support

I had this almost $500 AC unit working as intended for about 10 months and then the WIFI features, which were the main reason I chose this unit over others, inexplicably stopped working. Nothing happened to it, it's permanently installed in the window, it just stopped working. By the time summer came back around and I needed it to work again, the warranty had run out. Support was absolutely useless in trying to solve this problem. I wish I had bought a more reasonably priced regular AC.

Beware LG thermostats

This is a replacement for a unit of the same model, which lasted just 4 years. It suddenly stopped turning the compressor on, so it didn't cool. I installed the new a/c and shockingly it had the same problem within a few days. We were heading into a heat wave and the repair request was languishing at LG, so I opened up the unit and saw that the thermometer was mounted touching the cooling coils. No wonder it thought it was 40 degrees and didn't turn on the compressor. I fixed it. But I shouldn't have had to - this is a design flaw of this LG model. And it raises the disturbing prospect that I may have been able to fix the old one (if only I had reached the necessary level of desparation) and saved myself the $400+ for the new one.

I had a 13 year old LG 12,000 btus which ran excellent so when I decided to replace it I expected the same quality. I could not have been more disappointed. The air conditioner would shut off before the room reached the set point temperature. It was off by over five degrees. The dry mode was nothing like my original model the air barely blew out and it would turn off almost immediately after turning it on never reaching the set point temperature. I thought the unit was defective so I brought it back and got another one which ended up having the same issues. This model also would not turn off after you pressed the power button there was a delay. I’m done with LG. I purchased a Toshiba 8,000 btu for a bedroom and a 12,000 btu for the main area. I haven’t received the 12,000 btu yet but the 8,000 btu runs just perfectly. Toshibas are made by Carrier.

This thing is awesome. It's very quiet. My favorite feature is that it has an app where you can control the air conditioner remotely. The app shows you the temperature inside your home, and it lets you change the thermostat.

The machine functions very well — by far the quietest window A/C I've had and it really does the job. The wifi control feature is incredible to be able to cool off the room before getting home to a stifling apartment in the humid months. However, the wifi capability was very glitchy to set up and took many attempts over the course of a week and a back and forth with tech support to link the machine to the app instead of getting a repeated "error" notice.

We purchased this because we were upgrading our AC unit in our apartment (in an early 1900s building). Right at the beginning we were a little confused with the instructions as they didn’t explain much. We were under the impression that we could just put the unit on top of our previous bracket that held our old AC unit. We soon found out that this was not the case at all. Due to how our window is lifted above the frame and sill area, we found that the AC would not sit level on our old bracket. We had to uninstall our bracket and makeshift a level on both the outside and inside of the window sill. It took a lot of drilling and cutting wood to make the whole unit level. If you have a handyman, this is a situation where they are needed! From start to finish it took about 4 hours total to install this unit. HOWEVER, now that it is installed, it’s amazing. Couldn’t be happier with how quiet the machine is and how quickly it cools down our large living / dining area. If you’re looking for a plug in and go situation, this is not for you. If you enjoy DIY or have a handyman to help, this is the one!

This is a respectable unit. I have another 10,000 BTU rated window unit. This LG one cools considerably faster than the other brand. HOWEVER, I bought both units within a month of one another. This LG unit died the first week of the 3rd cooling season. The other brand is still going. The WiFi and the programmability isn't very practical. The WiFi is a tad nice, but it is slow and flakey (sometimes it will not work). The programming options are 100% completely entirely impractical. The options are useless. The remote is nice. It too is a bit of a trick at times to get it to work. Overall, it cools very quickly. It is a very powerful unit. It also looks a tad nicer than other modules, but it is still a window unit, but reliability isn't great. The compressor locked up at the start of the third cooling season. Another brand of 10,000 BTU unit I bought within a month of buying this one is stil going strong.

While the weight looks heavy it comes with an exterior mounting shell so this minimizes the weight that you have to lift for final installation. Good installation instructions allow you to preconfigure final installation in the window. Also comes with heat shields for side window fold outs. Working well in cooling room with computer equipment that generates heat. I recommend taking the box apart on a floor with some manuevering room Leave the bottom styrafoam packing on the bottom to allow for easy pick up and also for shell removal from the box. This also protects the floor. Leaves a nice clean install if done properly. Vinyl window lip should be braced with a wood support due to the weight. An exterior support is also recommended due to the weight of the A/C. Fully fit the shell before sliding in the A/C core. If done properly this is a snap. You do need to adjust the installation angle to avoid the foam seals on the shell though so do not force it.

Powerful and effective at cooling a good sized roo

For the most part it arrived without damage. However, one of the side skirts plastic mounting brackets were broken. So, cannot secure it to the window sill. I don't believe that the packaging and positioning of items in the box is effective at preventing this when the package is handled a bit roughly during shipping.

Loud, but it really shouldn't be.

So far these ACs (we bought two) are better than the two they replaced, but not without some work.

THE GOOD Fairly quiet and energy efficient. Easy to install. Can be turned on remotely from my phone so I get to come home to a chilly room. THE BAD I had to open it up to fix a rattling noise. It was easy to fix but I shouldn't have to. Setting up WiFi is frustratingly hard. I bought this AC because it was The Wire Cutter’s top pick for best Air Conditioners. Installation was easy and the AC was fairly quiet. However the next day after I installed it a loud ratting noise started every time the compressor went on. After searching the reviews for the words “rattling” and “loud noise” I discovered this to be a common problem and it stems fro the compressor hitting one of the surrounding pipes. I suspect some these pipes get shifted in transit. The fix is super easy and all it requires is a screw driver to open up the box. Once open, I located the pipe causing the noise and I pulled it outward a bit until it no longer hit the compressor. LG can easily fix this by adding an isolation ring around the pipe like they have done with some of the other pipes. I'm glad I didn't have to deal with returning this since it was so easy to fix. The AC is fantastic otherwise, it's quiet and quickly cools up a room way bigger than it's supposed to. I would buy again and would recommend i. Just keep in mind if you have this issue, it's fairly easy to fix. To be honest it was harder to set up the WiFi than to fix the noise.

I purchased this LW1217ERSM model, and I've had mixed reviews. First, I'll start with what I like: The unit cools well and seems to be intuitive and efficient. The phone app is giving me a few issues in setting a weekly reservation, but I'm confident I'll get those solved (I posted my question here on homedepot.com). For the unit itself, I'd probably give it a 4.5 stars.
