The reported temp on the Lux Thermostat was 75 degrees in a 68 degree room. This reported temp was steady for 1 hour. When I manually set the temp to 77 degrees, the furnace came on and the reported temp changed to 73 degrees, after 3 minutes the reported temp changed to 71 degrees. then it changed to 70 degrees. reported temp going down when the furnace was on. House got very warm to say the least. I returned the Lux and bought another. Same unit. The reported room temp did the exact same thing. The thermostat in the unit is defective!!!! It will never work if the unit cannot sense the correct temperature.

Two installed….two returned

After reading reviews I decided to try this brand. I purchased one and installed it. It wouldn’t hold the desired temperature. The unit ran forever and would only shut down for a few minutes at a time. It consistently held 2-3 degrees below the requested temperature. The measured temperature was consistently 2 degrees higher than 3 other thermometers in the same area. I assumed it was just a bad unit. I returned it to Lowes and exchanged it for another unit. I got the exact same results with the second unit. I called the tech support number. I was put on hold multiple times, presumably so he could go read the book. No answers I got solved the problems. I removed the second unit and installed a Honeywell. It’s working fine. I definitely do not recommend a Lux thermostat. Buyer beware!

Hand's down best thermostat for the money!

Highly recommend this thermostat. Has many features to brag about like the adjustable settings for different time periods of the day, touch screen features, nice easy on the eyes back lighting and other features but for us the #1 feature is the adjustable temperature "swing" setting. This model allows you to set a range you want to keep your home at instead of just a set temperature. You can adjust in .25 degree increments up to 2.5 degrees. So if you want to keep your home on 72, you can set the "swing" for 1 degree and your unit will come on at 73 for AC and cut off at 71. This is an awesome feature that is easy on your home's HVAC equipment and is also nice on the electricity cost because the unit doesn't have to cycle as often or work as hard. Highly recommend this model made by LUX. Happy home owner!

Tried Honeywell BUT Lux was the best .

Have had Honeywell in just about every home I have lived in. But found the one that I had was off by several degrees. Bought another and installed it and things seemed fine, it was controlling the AC and was cycling off and on. Then went to sleep and woke up to my home at 64 degrees. Went to the thermostat and it was set at 76 and the temp. said 64! Disconnected it and returned it. Bought the Lux because I had read and heard good things about it. Installed it and programed it and now after a week my home inside temperature has been at what I set it at and am happy. Would give it FIVE stars but the install instructions are long and a bit confusing.

Good product. I would prefer having a brighter screen.

Thermostat has many advanced features such as ability to adjust the "swing" setting, that is, the temperature difference between the heating or cooling turning on, and turning off from 0.25 degrees F to 2.25 degrees you can also adjust the number of degrees of offset between the primary and secondary heating stage, as well as the calibration of the temperature sensor. T he menu and operating system are very well thought out and organized. The user manual is extremely well written both in regard to how to install the thermostat and how to use it. Very clear, and very complete. The thermostat functions quite well. The touch screen has fairly large characters, they are crisp and clear perhaps you may not need your reading glasses to read it! However one "glaring" shortcoming that I found perhaps "dimming" shortcoming might a better word was the level of screen brightness. It is not bright enough for my aged eyes to see not without the backlight, not with the backlight. And the brightness is not adjustable. The dimness of the screen makes using it a struggle. Many of the electronic products that I own, that have similar LCD screens, are much brighter. Otherwise I think this is a great product.

Limited functionality, where's the manual?

Basically works, however:

Great thermostat.

Love it. Does everything I want it to do. Very easy & fast to program (esp. with its "copy program to another day" feature). Very easy to install with very clear instructions on how to wire it, with a variety of illustrations for different systems and set ups; just find the diagram that matches yours, and you're done in just minutes! The background light, which only lights up for 10 seconds when you touch it, is nice and bright for easy viewing, but the blue color is easy on the eyes if you're in a dark room and it lights up. The numbers and writing are big and bold, so that I can read the thermostat without having to grab my reading glasses!

Poor Design

Looks great but suffers from poor design. Display not easy to read, painful programming and extremely difficult to separate the thermostat from the base plate to install. Had to call the company who indicated that Lux has received 1000's of complaints on this and his suggestion was to use a screwdriver to pry the two halves apart. A putty knife works better. Be careful when replacing the batteries...you may pull it off the wall trying to remove the cover. Also they use micro size screws to attach the wires. Lux was purchased by Johnson controls a few years ago. Item is made in China. Check out Consumer Reports.....this model is rated quite low

Decent for the price

Seeing as apparently almost every thermostat under $80 doesn't work correctly or breaks, this one is the best of the bunch. It has a nice display with a cool blue backlight that makes a neat, quiet tone whenever the backlight is active (an unintentional design feature that I personally enjoy). The overall design looks nice and modern as well. Plenty of features like reviewing energy usage, lockout, temp stops, etc.

THIS ALMOST BURNED DOWN MY HOUSE

3 weeks after installing the unit it started to malfunction. The first letter of the day of the week blinked and would not allow me to turn off the heater. I removed the unit from the base and it still wouldn't shut the heater off. Assuming it was the batteries I replaced them. Then 3 weeks later it happened again. I went on vacation for 2 days and came back to a house that was at 101 deg. Sweaty windows and all. The door knob to the closet where the heater is was too HOT TO TOUCH. I called LUX and they offered to send me a replacement unit that could , i guess, more efficiently burn down my house. This product does everything it saya it will do and also will burn down your house. PLEASE DO NOT PUT THIS IN YOUR HOUSE!!!!!!!!! i WILL NOT HAVE LUX PRODUCTS IN MY HOUSE BECAUSE OF THIS EXPERIENCE. Dont take a chance by another brand.

A thermostat you can finally read

I always had a problem with thermostats that had these little tiny numbers and if thats not bad enough forget about trying to read it if the stat located in a dark area of the house. So I went on a hunt for a quality product that wouldn't break the bank, would function properly, and able to be read night or day...what do ya know Lux has a bunch of them. The unit I got had a nice large touch screen....THAT I COULD SEE AND READ. It's also programmable if thats what your looking for and also can be set to be non-programmable and work as a basic stat which was perfect for me. Now I can see my temp from down the hall and if need be can just tap the unit and it lights up. Big numbers with no problem reading at all. I set this thing up and its been doing it's job ever since and doing it well. Well worth the money with all the bells and whistles as long as you don't need Wi-Fi.

[Rewarded Review] Good value for the price

We bought this because we desperately needed a thermostat (no AC in July in FLORIDA!), but we couldn't afford the fancy ones, as tempting as their features might be. Installation for my Trane heat pump was a little tricky, since the pin pattern was set up very differently, and the labels were different, so I ended up with a black wire that I didn't know where to place on the new thermostat. Fortunately for me, I have a brother-in-law who installs HVAC, so he was able to help me figure it out (it was a jumper).

[Rewarded Review] Good basic thermostat.

Spent some time looking at different models at both Lowe’s and HomeDepot before settling on this one. Combination of features and lack of negative complaints steered me in this direction. Install was easy, the instructions were clear and gave several wiring options that were easy to rule out the ones that were not applicable. I really like the ability to adjust the swing temps and could set a dip switch that rendered this a basic (non timed thermostat). Our lifestyle right now only needs a few simple settings and this eliminates having to trick or force the unit. I like the large backlit screens with large easy to read numbers. I also like being able to adjust the swing temp setting (something that the Honeywell units didn't do). The only gripe I have is the download of the full manual. It is not in the location on the website referenced on the install sheet. Took a few minutes to find it... not a big issue though. Overall, very happy with it and hope it lives up to it’s hype.

[Rewarded Review] Now I'm in the digital age and loving it...

This Lux digital thermostat was so easy to install. Marked my wires before I removed them from my old thermostat (which was manual and stuck in the 80s)..matched them up to the corresponding numbered screw connections on the Lux, put in a battery and you're good to go. Saved myself a $60 service call charge from an electrician. Now I am marveling at the Lux's soft blue glow and ease of programming. I can go to bed with a cooler house and wake up to a warm house automatically. No buyer's remorse here. A solid purchase from Lowes. Ordered it online and picked up at the order desk. Never even had to hunt it down in the store. Plus I got 5% off the purchase using my Lowes credit card. I could even have had it shipped to me for free but I love going to Lowe's so much I made the trip just to see the nice Christmas decorations there and interact with the nice Lowes employees.

Buy this one!

I bought this thermostat based on positive reviews from several websites. My 15 year old thermostat was not working as well as it used to. I’m 71 years old and live in Corona California. We are experiencing our second major heatwave this summer, with more to come. My wife and I don’t do heat well. My one year new A/C unit was cycling on and off constantly, I was concerned that the A/C motor would be damaged. I came to the conclusion that I needed to replace the thermostat after placing a small accurate thermometer near my old thermostat, and various other locations around my house logging my readings. After several hours it became obvious to me that the thermostat was faulty.

Great thermostat, Exceptional support

I purchased two TX9600TS to replace those in a house I purchased. I was able to map the wiring of the lower unit to the diagram provided with the thermostat. However, the upper unit was much more complex. Rather than risk damage to either the thermostat or HVAC/Heat Pump, I went to the Lux web site and requested support. I provided the model number of the existing thermostat and the existing wiring map (wire color to connection). THEY GOT BACK TO ME THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY. They provided a detailed wiring diagram and instructions on setting the appropriate switches on the circuit board. I followed their instructions and everything is working flawlessly. While I selected the units based on customer feedback, I never expected such a high level of technical support. I would definitely recommend Lux as a company to anyone.

Large Easy to See Display, Easy to Use

This was primarily bought because it has a LARGE easy to read display, and the touch screen feature works well. In my application I wanted a basic non programmable thermostat to control a packaged AC and gas heating system. It is easy to use and is set so the 7 day program feature is turned off. It now works like a 1970s stat with a digital readout and digital precision. The settings menu lets you set the swing range in 1/4 degree increments over a 2 degree F range. The temperature accuracy is good, spot on and matched readings with a reference mercury thermometer.

Poor Performance

I purchased the Lux TX9600TS based on the many positive reviews and Consumer Report’s recommendation of the thermostat as a best buy, but my experience was quite different.

Lots of LUXs

I don't know why there are so many great reviews on Lowe's website for the LUX TX9600TS. I bought one to replace a non-programmable unit in a house I recently purchased. The TX9600 caused me nothing but troubled. The TX9600 installation was straight forward and the unit was easy to program. However, it seems the TX9600 has trouble displaying the correct indoor temperature. It wanders plus and minus 3 degrees around actual. You could look at it reading 72 degrees and three minutes later it would read 75 degrees, without the influence of any shift in temperature. No, I did not have in the sun or near a window or door! I verified the problem by comparing it to a laboratory mercury thermometer.
