Mostly nice...

The wood is beautiful and the design is simple. The bolts, however, came stripped at the bottom, so half of them wouldn't grip inside the guide holes. Also, it should be noted that the hooks are not pre drilled and you have to measure and set all of the hooks manually. That's fine, I just didn't realize that. We have to go find some new bolts to complete the assembly.

This hall tree is a perfect decorative look at the entry to our ski condo. Plenty of room for damp clothing with room underneath for snow boots.

Gorgeous hall tree/bench

This hall tree/bench is quite sturdy and the wood finish is beautiful. It went together quite simply. It has a nice size bench for sitting and the shelf on top is nice for purses or hats.

This is beautiful and great quality. I would given 5 stars if there was predrilled holes for the hooks. 3 screw heads broke off In the wood.

Could be better but a lovely piece

Beautiful and useful. A little more top-heavy than expected, but it has a way to secure it to wall that I might employ. I wish the bench seat was slightly thicker wood. I think a little more weight down low would make it more stable.

Love it, but required a few adjustments.

Overall VERY happy with the purchase, only reason 4 instead of 5 is due to poor hardware "machining." Not all of the cams were the same, two were over drilled in manufacturing, several were poorly drilled and would not seat flush. In the end it was all fixable with a bit of patience, worth the extra effort as opposed to dealing with returning and/or ordering parts. All that aside, it is a sturdy bench and looks great with our decor. If it weren't for the above issues I'd give it five starts.

A great hall tree with bench

I had problems building but the finished product is great. Here's the breakdown of my experience. Product as described: In my experience, this can be a problem, especially with furniture that has natural wood character. I am 100% pleased that the hall tree I now own was well described. Shipping: Shipping was free and very quick. I think I received my order 2 or 3 days after I placed it. It arrived one day sooner than the estimate. Packaging: Great! There was a ~1" puncture in the side of the box delivered by UPS that worried me. But I found the contents packed very nice and tight in styrofoam "boards", not peanuts. Nothing could move around. The contents arrived in the same shape as when packed. Contents: Very simple. Amounts to 3 wood boards, 2 metal frames, a package of 7 hooks and a nice little cloth zipper bag containing hardware (mostly screws/bolts) and instructions. the bag contained one extra bolt and was missing 1 screw. I've noticed many other coat hooks are attached with 2 screws but this hall tree hooks are attached with 4 screws. So one of my hooks is missing a single screw... no big deal, I didn't feel the need to replace. Assembly: First I will state that I've never ever bought a build-at-home piece of furniture, grill, etc. that I was able to build 100% trouble free. For this hall tree, the 3 boards are bolted onto the metal framework. There are nuts already embedded in the wood to receive the bolts. The seat has 6 total and the other two boards have 4 each. Alignment was a little off but I was eventually able to thread all bolts. However, one nut in the seat and one nut in the shelf were poorly attached. They turned in place and were of no use. I considered disassembling these boards and attempting to glue the nuts in place but decided their locations wouldn't hurt the finished product if missing so I just left these out. I want to be clear, I wasn't making a final tightening of bolts with too much force that caused them to break loose. The bolts started threading same as others with little resistance and still had several turns left when the nuts started turning with them. Again, not a big deal. The biggest problem I had with the entire assembly was the coat hooks. There are 7 hooks, 4 screws each. Instructions warn that use of power tools invalidates damage claims. Assembly instructions are mainly pictorial with only a few words. For the coat hook installation, it shows that the nearly finished coat rack should be standing upright with the hook back board already attached to frame. There are no pre-drilled holes in the wood for coat hook screws. There is no guide for placement of hooks on the board. So you will have to decide how high to place the hooks and how far apart you want to space them. There are an odd number of hooks so the first goes in the center. Start with that as your guide. I decided to use 6" spacing across. I considered 7" spacing to give coats more room but for my use, I don't want the coats sticking out from the ends. For my personal preference, I decided the up/down placement should center the overall hook on the board. To be clear, I placed so the lowest part of lower hook is 3/4" above the base of the board. The upper most part of the top hook is "about" 3/4" below top edge. The position of the screw base is not vertically centered. The screw base is "about" 2/3 down from the top of the board. (I'm saying "about" because the top edge is the "live edge" and varies across the board.) Choosing position is your first challenge. But the most difficult part of entire installation is screwing these hooks onto the board. The instructions say the only tools needed are an allen wrench(hex key), which is provided, and a phillips screwdriver which you provide. The Acacia wood used looks nice but is very hard and dense. I tried multiple times/positions/methods and found you cannot start a screw in this wood with a screwdriver. If you were able to start, you would not have the force and torque to sink the screw snug against the hook. So I had no choice but to drill holes. You must drill the entire depth the screw will go. I found a 1/8" drill bit was best. Be careful not to drill all the way through the board. I had trouble getting all 4 holes to drill in perfect alignment with the hook holes. In hindsight I should have used a punch (or a nail) to make a centered dent in the wood for the drill bit to start better centered in. Because the wood is so hard, a small error in centering will make the screw very hard to drive the last few turns. If I was going to build another one of these hall trees, I would attach the hooks to the board before attaching the board to the framework. Placement: My hall tree rests on a tile floor and it wobbled. I found its plastic feet do screw out and can be adjusted to steady and level the hall tree. (Adjustable feet and levelling are not included in the instructions.) There is hardware to attach the hall tree to a single point of the wall behind for tipping safety. I don't see the need and have chosen to not attach so far. Conclusion: Despite a few construction problems, I am very happy with my new hall tree. I would buy again and would highly recommend to others. It's beautiful, simple and functional. The "live edge" and variation in color of the wood adds nice character to the look.
